Review: Three tracks plucked from Avichrom, Dominik Eulberg's sixth, avian-focused studio album get the remix treatment. In the case of "Grauspecht", !K7 has commissioned two versions. The first, from Acid Pauli, is a subtle, stripped back take, melding dreamy melodies with acid blips. This fusion makes for an atmospheric affair that builds slowly and dreamily. Isolee's remix also favours an understated approach. Powered by an offbeat, loose rhythm, it sees the veteran German producer conjure up unhurried, jazzy tones. Aera's version of "Schwarzhalstaucher" also focuses on melody, with warm textures and breathy filters unravelling over a glistening electronic groove. It sounds like even techno producer Etapp Kyle has been influenced by the mellow approach, and his take on "Gelbspotter" revolves around a humming bass and lithe break beats.
Review: After the first volume featuring all stars such as Nathan Fake, Shed and Mind Against, here is another action packed volume of remixes, the second of Bonn veteran Dominik Eulberg's 'Mannigfaltig' LP released last year. Once again, the titles are proper tongue twisters: "Sechslinien-Bodeneule" receives a pummelling peak time rework by Brazilian techno queen ANNA, while Robag Wruhme - the joker from Jena - delivers his idiosyncratic style as always on the sublime rework of "Siebenschlaefer" and Italy's mentalist maestro Donato Dozzy will no doubt hypnotise you into submission - bringing the Sound Of Rome to his perspective of the track "Eintagsfliege".
Review: Curating a fine selection of outstanding artists to rework some of the album's key tracks, here is the first of two remix EPs from Bonn-based veteran Dominik Eulberg's 'Mannigfaltig' LP - which proved a huge success last year. Revered Italian duo Mind Against appear first, with a typically slinky and mesmerising rework of "Golden Acht", followed by master hypnotist Nathan Fake's stomping grayscale perspective of "Dreizehnspecht" which is loaded straight off the factory floor. Elsewhere, there's more tongue twisters, like from Hamburg's favourite sons Adana Twins who continue with their style of infectious and pop-inflected tech house on a version of "Neuntoeter", and finally Ostgut Ton staple Shed is unpredictable as always, but still delivers the goods with his mid '90s IDM vibe on "Zehnpunkt-Marienkaefer".
Review: The German label is 12 this year, but as it faces into its teenage life, it retains the same hunger for new music. Get Physical owner DJ T delivers one of the compilation's highlights, a stab-heavy techy take on John Tejada's "Timebomb". Like a slowed down take of Dave Clarke's "Red 2" infused with disco riffs, it sets a high watermark. Nonetheless, T faces stiff opposition from The Martinez Brothers, whose "Issshhh" is all tough percussive volleys and insistent chords, like a tough take on Levon Vincent. Elsewhere, new acts like Siopis and Gorge impress with drum-heavy tools, while old hands Tiefschwarz deliver a spaced out, bleep-heavy version of John Monkman's "Follow Me".
