Review: The Hague's bussin' BAKK label is back again with a hug and kiss in Xoxo - drawing in some 11 tracks featuring numbers from friends and cohorts like Legowelt, Aurora Halal, Ocean and Dont DJ! Furthermore you have intrepid cuts from Antenna with the some heavy break beats in "Spiral" alongside some warm and classic deep house from SFV Acid in "Urbanfury". Checkout those squat rave beats from Tala Drum Corps' "Gargoyle" - plus that acid - next to compilation closer "De Papaverparade" that brings that Miami Rhodes feeling to the floor with some extra heat - those kicks bro! As a concluding release to what's be a wonderful label we don't wanna say goodbye to - Xoxo, BAKK says, is a mighty thank you to the artists that helped the label find its place in Holland's rich musical heritage.

Review: Berceuse Heroique has primarily dealt in EPs up until now, so it's surprising to see the label stretching itself to album format. We were sure that this imprint was pretty adamant about keeping things in single-mode. Nevertheless, Don't DJ are always a refreshing listen, and they are now accustomed to releasing on album format given a recent string of them for various labels around the experimental techno circuits, like birdFriend and that excellent excursion on Emotional Rescue. There's a great blend of polyrhythms and deep tribalism throughout the first three tunes, a wave of euphoria that is displaced by the more broken patters of "Disparate 69" and Polyamory". More leftfield antics follow suit, as the album descends into a spiral of intricate percussion patterns and minimalistic melodies. Another fine Don't DJ appearance. We're intrigued to see where these nomads will take their sounds to next...

Gammellan (Dresvn remix) - (6:44) 130 BPM

Review: Florian Meyer is one of the most experimental artists working in dance music and Gammellan shows why he enjoys that status. The follow-up to 2015's Hexentrix on Berceuse Heroique, it sees him take influence from the Indonesian music referenced in the title to construct a dense, percussive rhythm track replete with chiming, melodic riffs that glisten like dew on a lawn at sunrise. The label has also commissioned a great remix; Dreesvn from the Acido label draws on inspiration from the shimmering melodies of early to mid-90s Warp's back catalogue to create a version that teems with intricate melodies and dramatic strings.

Review: Emotional Response returns to Dusseldorf with a compilation of the music emanating out of the Diskant label over some 7 EPs between 2009-2014. Featuring the productions of The Durian Brothers, Harmonious Thelonious and Don't DJ, their unique polyrhythmic percussive sound of the label is highlighted across this special double album. Legend goes it was discovering the first Diskant release on the wall of Honest Jons store back in 2009 that became a prime influences in the creation of Emotional Response. Born out of the early years of Salon Des Amateurs, the Diskant label was set up as a vehicle for the music and member's music of The Durian Brothers, namely Florian Meyer (Don't DJ), Stefan Schwander (Harmonious Thelonious) and Marc Matter. Coming together from their own music backgrounds to explore a new experimental polyrhythmic para-funk via distorted electronics. Using specially prepared turntables, hypnotic rhythmic patterns, noise and sequencing they have created a dense and fuzzy excess that over four sides of vinyl is here now presented as a retrospective, but not an end, to highlight their unique sound.

Hexentrix
Hexentrix - (11:45) 105 BPM Hot
Hexentrix (Jordan GCZ remix) - (13:21) 128 BPM
Review: With his passion for the unusual and unsettling, Florian Meyer's Don't DJ project is a perfect fit with Gizmo's similarly inclined Berceuse Heroique imprint. While the Germann producer's most recent previous outing explored krautrock-inspired drone textures for Emotional Response, "Hexentrix" is a pleasingly melodious affair - even if the chiming, music box melodies have a curiously chilling feel. This uneasy vibe is emphasized further via loose, organic sounding percussion and a surprisingly powerful drone bassline. Jordan GCZ remixes, utilizing many of the original elements while adding the restless pulse of a hypnotic techno rhythm.

Don't DJ - "Kosmose" - (19:57) 123 BPM
Tropical Hi-Fi - "Oceanic Mythology" - (24:42) 145 BPM Hot
Review: Number three in the four part SchleiBen series from Emotional Response arrives with Don't DJ and Tropical Hi-Fi at the controls. The former is the current creative endeavour of Florian Meyer, founder of the Diskant label and one of the more experimental and academic producers to surface from Dusseldorf in recent times. He also forms one third of The Durian Brothers. Meyer's "Kosmose" is a 20 minute piece which explores the link between polyrhythmic percussion and brooding electronics; understandably, it's ripe with introspective qualities. Offering some contrast, Northern Australian producer Tropical Hi-fi turns in "Oceanic Mythology", a meandering journey through found sounds, psychedelia, folk music and more which sounds like listening to SUED B-sides whilst tripped out on acid.
