Dread MC & Duckworthsound - "New Era" - (3:16) 130 BPM
Review: As one of the UK's longest standing and most consistent underground vocal heavyweights, it's such an exciting sight to see the legendary Dread MC finally touching down on CruCast for a full length album project. Following on from one of the strongest feature runs, he finally lets loose for a storming collection, featuring terrific production features from Badger, Jaxx Da Fishworks, Tsuki, Taiki Nulight, Shosh & so many more, giving this one a bag of star factor before we even begin to break it down. From the deeper lyric-based meanings of 'No Emotion' through to the pure raucousness of 'New Era' alongside Duckworthsound, we get to experience of Dread MC's vocal ability across the project, with our favourites including the groovy bass expressions of 'Kicks' alongside Hoda & Eloquin, alongside the carnival infused drum heat of 'Run' with Panik Room. Awesome work!
Review: It's safe to say that NYTA, aka New York Transit Authority is currently one of the UK's most innovative producers, traversing the genre brackets in and around techno, house and bass music, finding the perfect pockets in between each and every time. This brand new single entitled 'Bossy' sees him team up with the lethal vocal presence of Dread MC for a new school bassline tearout, encompassing vibrant drum rhythms and smoot bass soundscaping, waving around with serious dancefloor intent.
Review: Within the world of bassline, it's no stretch to say that these are two of the artists really leading the game. On this brand new single entitled 'Takeover' we hear Holy Goof team up with the infamous sounds of Flava D for a bassy belter, consisting of pulsating synthesis and solid drum work. This one is designed to bring the ravers out in any dance, and to be honest we struggle to see it failing!
Review: Durkle Disco, a Bristol based haven where grime, garage, hip-hop and dubstep would no long be placed in separate genre boxes. In 2011 Durkle Disco was created so these musical cousins could mingle and merge and become they're own, uncategorized sound. Paying equal respect to both producers and MCs, the label has become an unstoppable force in the world of bass. 'So Sicka' sounds like a Burial album double dropped, all the eerie atmospherics remain with a cold sense of hollowness, but there's an intense brooding buildup of energy. Emotions are heightened and there's a harsh clarity to the hard clashing drums which forces you the listen intently to each and every word spat. The 'Near' remix is has an itchy, glitchy feel with a lot more sound filling the soundscape, while the 'Mani Festo x Denham' remix has an odd stripped back aggressive house vibe that we haven't experienced before.
Review: Alongside the likes of Sly-One, Archive and Distro, Bromley is a stalwart of Bristol's growing bass scene. Right here is some sinister riddims with the ubiquitous Dread MC on vocals alongside the sultry sounds of Grove. Taim's remix here of "Burn Down" is as wonky, bumpy and sinister as you'd expect while Archives rendition goes for a pitched down junglist vibe with its vicious breaks sure to get an action from the crowd.?
Review: Wise words from Dread MC, even wiser beats from Bristol's Notion & Young H. Chunky 4x4 garage with strong house tendencies thrown into the mix, "Money & Drugs" is an all-out dancefloor riot with catchy vocals, a deadly second drop and enough energy to charge a whole fleet of electric cars. For added screwface appeal jump on Killjoy's Birmingham-sounding remix where the bassline is twisted up just a few additional notches for added mischief. Blurry.
