Review: Now with dubstep compilations, it's often the case that we will see projects stacked up with a couple of bangers and a bag of average creations, however this latest fifteen track body from the For The Heads gang consists of nothing but pure steppers flavour. The line up alone is immense, pulling together some of the biggest new school names in dubstep as a whole, including: WZ, Kali, Ome, Mistah, SBK, Mungk and more. If we had to pick a pair of favorites, it would have to include the delicious delays and marshy bass textures of 'Deep Meditation' from Teffa, alongside the glittering LFO's and scattered drum beats of 'Curren't from Sedan. Awesome stuff!

Review: It's really hard not to love what the team at FKOF have been up to over the past few months, with their release schedule being incredibly consistent to say the least. Their latest drop sees Crowley & E S P join forces across four bangers, starting off with two solo runs from Crowley. Firstly, we hear the moogy subs and minimal drum structures of 'Stoic', leading into 'Luv:Daze Dub' with it's incredibly vibrant melodies and subtle breaksy textures throughout. Next, the pair link up on 'Rosetta', another stripped back yet incredibly potent piece of dubstep design, jam packed with eerie atmospheric delays. Finally, E S P runs out on solo duty with 'Jah', a super organic sounding creation, providing this EP with a perfect finale.

Review: There have been a lot of label success stories over the course of 2020, despite their being so many obstacles in the way. One of those for us, without a doubt, has to be Locus Sound, who look to start to round off 2020 with this exceptional new full length compilation project. Featuring 15 scorching originals, we see the likes of Ome, Photom, Sedan, Lord Jabu, Ourman, Pharma and many more unleash some serious weight over the course of 65 minutes of steppers goodness. The entire project is dripping in quality, with our highlights being the voluptuous bass gurgles and unpredictable drum shifts of Root from Nizth, alongside Koma's groovy post-garage experiment with 'Step Two You'.

Review: With dubstep being back into such a strong and stable position within the full expansive range of underground dance music, labels like Locus Sound, who has kept the consistency levels so high of late, most certainly need to be praised. This latest four tracker from E S P & Meddem is a perfect example of this consistency as we kick off with slightly trippy arrangement of the title track 'Retrospect', kicking us off with a bit of an unorthodox bang. The eerie flavours continue next as the emptive strings and swampy sub warbles of E S P's 'Keep Searching' drift into earshot, followed by Meddem's 'Softwax', a minimal yet powerful original, focussing on abstract percussive pushes and serious subweight. Finally, 'Stars combines more interesting rhythmic switch ups and an acidic synthesizer pulse throughout to put an aquatic feel into this fizzing finale.

Review: The team over at For The Heads have curated a very vibrant selection here as we explore the magnificence of e s p, with this brand new 'Moody' EP. We open up with 'Blank', a sweltering sweep through nostalgia-inducing choral samples and shuffling drum textures, to give us an eerie introduction, before 'Mycelium' lets fly a hard hitting sub-line and more moogy synthetic mastery. Next, we take it industrial as the crunchy drum processing and signal-like bass arrangements of 'Limits' then jig their way into view. Finally, the title track 'Moody' fuses together bell-like melodic leads, unpredictable horn stabs and organic percussive inputs to fix together a spooky yet satisfying original, giving us the full spectrum of what the e s p sound has to offer. Excellent work!

Review: As one of the most undeniably consistent dubstep imprints of 2022, we are thrilled to see the Infernal Sounds crew turning the heat up right from the start of the year as they deliver a mega compilation project, featuring 17 absolute sizzlers. The range that Infernal Sounds are able to deliver is very apparent across this project from start to finish, from the otherworldly chord shimmers of Conzi's 'Drift' to the more sublow synthesiser sweeps of 'Executioner' from Blottarz and all the way back to the intricate percussive mastery of Bisweed's 'By My Side'. It's an all star cast, with the likes of Mistah, Substrada, Dayzero, Gnesha, Kodama and more all providing heavy hitters, with our favourites including E S P's super spooky whirlpool entitled 'Open Mind', next to Saraphim's super smooth 'Cool Box' original.
