Review: Los Angeles-based Brit Chris Barratt returns to Innervisions, after appearing on their X compilation a little while back, in addition to appearances on Bedrock and Sapiens. Imitations Of Life is most likely named after his solo imprint Art Imitating Life, and much like that - the tracks here are in the same kind of vein. From the melodic dancefloor drama of ,,Sketch 7", the soaring synth leads taking centre stage on the evocative "Sketch 17" or the glassy-eyed and heartfelt style of deep house that is a perfect fit for Ame and Dixon's imprint on "Sketch 1".

Review: For the third instalment of his Art Imitating Life series, Chris Barratt aka Eagles & Butterflies opts for a fittingly epic approach. On the original version of "The Last Dance", the Ibiza producer lays down hazy, mournful synths that swirl in over the gorgeous dubbed out groove. It makes for a beautiful, sensuous affair, but Barrat manages to better it with the 'Sunrise remix'. There, he utilises subtle break beats that provide the perfect accompaniment to his lush sound scapes. Finally, there's the 'synthapella' that dispenses with beats and rhythms, instead venturing into a world of beautiful ambience.

Review: Eagles & Butterflies is the studio alias of Chris Barratt, and he brings the beauty of his Ibizan surroundings to bear on this third volume of the Art Imitating Life series. "The Last Dance" is led by symphonic strings and pads as well as loose percussion, and this combination soars its way into the kind of epic break down that is common for White Isle house music. The 'Sunrise' version is even more vivid, with Barratt laying down lithe break beats and homing in on the widescreen strings. For those who want to experience Barratt's music in a Cafe Del Mar type scenario, there is also a glorious, beatless 'Synthapella' version included.

Review: Earlier this year, Eagles & Butterflies (AKA producer Chris Barratt) enjoyed a club hit with "Love", a rather large slice of vocal deep house/tech-house fusion on Noir. On "Arpeggiator", his first single for Sapiens, Barratt changes tack, layering picturesque, undulating arpeggio synthesizer lines on top of a rock solid drum track to breathtaking effect. Its beauty and rush-inducing qualities - emphasized by the cut's 14-minute length - are matched by the track that follows, a deep Afro-house workout full of glistening marimba lines entitled "Ayeme". To round things off with a bang, he pays tribute to Floating Points' most memorable house moments on stunning closer "Prophet".

Review: As the title makes clear, Chris Barratt's latest outing as Eagles & Butterflies features a swathe of fresh remixes of cuts he's released on Art Imitating Life, the label he established back in 2018. Jennifer Cardini and Damon Jee kick things off with a ridiculously grandiose, Italo-disco and big room house inspired revision of 'The Trip' - all thrusting, arpeggio style sequenced synth-bass, bold electronic riffs and delay-laden drum fills - before Chinaski turns Barratt's recent collaboration with Coloray, 'Sinners', into a Moroder-inspired, piano-sporting electronic disco throb-job (a vocal-free 'Dub' mix of this version is also included). Elsewhere, Hiver's tweak of 'Sketch 16' is a driving, melodious, acid-fired treat that could well be the EP's standout moment, while Barratt's own 'Private Remix' of 'The Last Dance' is a tidy blend of revivalist Italo-disco and saucer-eyed nu-disco.

Review: Chris Barratt aka Eagles & Butterflies makes his long overdue debut on Running Back, and it's quite a change in musical direction for the British artist. The project's original working title was simply called 'Italo' which says a lot. Made for 'big rooms, major moments, minor miracles and sophisticated car chase scenes alike', Retropolis Vol. 1. was made with a plethora of vintage synthesizers and will appease all fans of keyboard music. From the neon-lit euphoria of the title track, more new dance fantasy awaits you on the saucer-eyed retro chug of "Juno Ninja" and the seductive dark disco epic "CS-80".

Review: Chris Barratt AKA Eagles & Butterflies returns with an EP that packs five tracks in seven mixes, and that clocks in at 41 minutes, which - fun fact alert! - is longer than either 'Sgt Peppers' or 'Never Mind The Bollocks', and just a minute shorter than 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. No faulting this one on the VFM front, then... and if high-octane, uptempo house grooves - entirely instrumental and leaning towards the proggy, heavily electronic side of the street, with some distinctly 80s sounds thrown in for good measure - are what float your boat, then there's no faulting it in the quality stakes either.

Review: Bedrock mainstay Vassiloudis dives deep into the Miami vibe with a selection of vibes that represent the best side of the mega music conference. Not the obvious 'hands in the air' peaktime anthems but the more mature, discerning backbeat of the event. Spanning from more chilled poolside party pieces to more full-bodied slabs of euphoria, highlights include Guy J's spellbinding "Twenty 11", the ocean-like synth washes of O'Donovan's rush-tastic "Crimson Flare", and the warm chords and tribal rhythm of Eagles & Butterflies "Pharoah". Not the most obvious Miami tracks, but that's exactly the point of this lush, well selected exercise.
