Kouen Kyoudai
Slide - (18:35)
Junglegym - (18:37) 105 BPM
Review: Masami Akita aka Merzbow is back and with the help of session musician and singer Eiko Ishibashi he's going to drown you in sound on Kouen Kyoudai. First track "Slide" is testament to this, in all its 19 minutes of intense glory where a continuous blast of white noise is supported by improvised drumming and layer upon layer of Akita's trademark textural guitar treatments, helping you fall into the void... but blissfully. "Junglegym" on the other hand exercises more restraint on this musique concrete number yet still manages to combine some some truly off-kilter and astounding sound design. Whether it's more of Akita's processed guitar sounds or computer generated experiments we'll never know but that's the whole beauty of it we think.
