Review: Just in time for ADE, Toolroom drops this comprehensive compilation. Fans of the long-running label will find much to love here. Good-time disco comes courtesy of KC Lights & Lapsley's infectious "Better Times" and Ejeca's joyous, sample-heavy "In & Out". The minimal end of the house spectrum is also well-served; there's the woozy break downs and builds of Martin Ikin's driving "Oscill8" and Essel's deconstructed rhythm on "Lennon". Amsterdam 2023 also serves up some irresistible, old-school selections. Pirate Copy's "Love Will Save the Day" is an intense, hardcore-sampling house track. Meanwhile on "I Just Wanna", Local Singles meld skipping garage beats with an urgent vocal and insistent siren riffs.

Review: Next up on Shall Not Fade is a spellbinding mix from the fast-rising DJ Physical. Inspired by old school techno, Physical gets the selection off to a rousing start with his own acid-soaked "Uranium", before dropping the raucous, noisy banger that is Testpress' "Joemama". The 303 is a common theme throughout this mix, and Ejeca's "Away" features a seamless mix of atmospheric synths and nagging acid lines. The other recurring feature is Physical's affinity with 90s techno, audible on the break beat-led "Silver Lake" and "Overshoot", an epic slice of trance that sounds like an update on the classic Eye Q style.

Review: Last year, Ejeca (real name Gerry McCartney) released the self-explanatory Hardcore / Rave Mixtape 001, a themed, non-stop, thrill-a-minute collection of his own productions in a retro-futurist, rave-igniting style. Here he repeats the exercise, only this time he's paying tribute to another sound that has come back around again: the chunky, loopy, disco-tinged and filter-heavy "French Touch" style made famous by Cassius, Daft Punk and co in the late '90s. McCartney's take on turn-of-the-century French house is well observed and authentic sounding, but still fresh enough to rebuff accusations of hollow nostalgia. The plentiful highlights include the Cassius-esque heaviness of 'The Rhythm', the F Communications style techno-disco pump of 'Galleria' and the Pepe Braddock-does-disco flex of 'Joyride'.

Review: Bristol's Shall Not Fade presents a new DJ mix by Polish producer Bartosz Kruczynski aka Earth Trax, who just last week dropped his third LP for the label - The Sensual World. The 13-tracker saw the Warsaw-based producer prove himself as one of the most versatile and consistent producers in the game. This hour long continuous mix, however, proves his abilities behind the decks and comes also the individual tracks. Some of the highlights not limited to: the understated stomp of Trudge's emotive "When The Rain", the airy electro of Tom Vernon's "Disappear" or the ever reliable Harrison BDP taking you aboard the acid express on "Immortal", as well as the mandatory Earth Trax cuts "Trust Me" (dub mix,) "Fireflies" and "Dream Pop".

Review: Ejeca's previous outing on Shall Not Fade, May 2021's Free From, was an impressively eclectic but steadfastly club-focused affair that boasted far more hits than misses. This five-track follow-up is equally as impressive. The Irish producer first doffs a cap to hard house, happy hardcore and mind-mangling acid techno on the rave-igniting madness of 'Take It', before going deeper and dreamier on the breathless, trance-inducing pump of 'Away'. 'Clunk' is a killer chunk of rap-free hip-house revivalism, 'Mallusk' is a high-octane electro number smothered in alien electronics and star gazing synthesizer chords, and 'Static' is a trippy, hard-to-pigeonhole number that sounds like acid-fired ambient techno on steroids. Brilliantly breathless stuff all told.

Review: He may be a prolific producer, but the standard of Ejeca's releases remains impressively high. His high-quality threshold is clearly apparent on Free From, the Irish producer's latest EP for Kieran Williams' Shall Not Fade imprint. Across the five original cuts showcased on the EP, Ejeca confidently struts between neo-trance/high-octane techno fusion ('Stoke It'), rave-igniting, warehouse-ready stompers ('Faith', 'Free From'), deep and intergalactic electro ('The Basics') and warming, sunrise-ready deep house headiness ('Looksee'). Also worthy of your attention is Cinthie's superb remix of 'Free From', which re-casts it as a late '90s style Chez Damier deep house bumper.

Review: Under the Ejeca alias, Gerry McCartney has regularly delivered retro-futurist singles that draw inspiration from vintage UK house and techno. This album, his full-length debut, takes this approach even further, delivering a non-stop, sweat-soaked journey through brand new rave and UK hardcore-inspired productions recorded in Southend-on-Sea last December. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the almost overwhelmingly loved-up opener, 'Rainfall', and the skittish, US garage-influenced breakbeat hardcore haziness of 'Need You', to the piano-powered happy hardcore hedonism of 'My Love', mind-melting 'Variant' and rushing 'Tell Me'. Also superb is closing cut 'Sunrise', a fittingly titled conclusion tailor made for sound-tracking sun-up moments at remote mountain raves.

Review: Garry McCartney aka Ejeca continues his mission to bring underground house and techno to the big room with this fine four-tracker on Shall Not Fade. While "Lacer" is a driving affair, McCartney goes deeper on "Make Me" and "Walk You Home". Drawing on classic US house influences, the evocative synths and uplifting vocal samples bring a warm, old school flavour to modern dance floors. "Raser" is also based on 90s styles, but on this occasion, it's the deep but high-paced techno of labels like Rotation. Meanwhile on the title track, this red-hot artist mines a more modern tradition. Featuring an upbeat, jacking groove and repetitive samples, it comes across like a more polished version of Technasia's peak-time sound.

Review: In the early stages of his career, Gerry "Ejeca" McCartney was renowned for delivering deliciously rushing, glassy-eyed peak-time anthems. In recent times, he's added a few more strings to his musical bow, though he can still smash it out if he needs to. For proof, check out the opening gambit of this EP on Shall Not Fade, "BetterB", which flits between glacial, Biosphere like ambience and bustling, rave-igniting dancefloor pressure. That pressure is maintained via the acid bass-propelled, stab-happy house retro-futurism of "Never Should" and the slamming "Polar", which is sweatier than Neil Ruddock's jockstrap after five minutes on an exercise bike. Elsewhere, "Nation" is a slick and spacey slab of electro, and "Real" is a thunderous big room techno romp laden with warehouse-ready synth stabs.

Review: Garry McCartney aka Ejeca returns to Last Night on Earth with a hypnotic dance floor EP. The title revolves around a brooding bass and hollowed out kicks, which he uses as a basis for uplifting melodies, tropical forest samples and haunting tribal chants. On "Your Mind", he ups the pace to deliver a pumping club rhythm that resounds to repetitive vocal samples and crisp claps. "Artmeis" sees him veer back towards a tranced out route, led by shimmering synth lines and dubbed out kicks. Finally, "Diskord" sees Ejeca display his techno credentials, with a pumping groove underpinning the kind of churning chord sequences that prevail on classic Force Inc releases.

Review: Since its inception in 2015, Jeremy Olander's label and event series, Vivrant, has become a home to new and established artists such as Khen, Finnebassen, Henry Saiz and more - all presenting their unique take on melodic house and techno. Now it is releasing its first ever mix album for Melbourne's Balance Music - and also happens to be the first in Olander's career thus far. Review: Ejeca - real name Garry McCartney - is a Belfast-based DJ and producer. He returns after releases on Yom Tum, PETS Recordings and Unknown To The Unknown with two trance-infused deep house cuts for label Soft Computing. Be prepared for a throwback to the mid '90s on the evocative "Hours" - this slinky and hypnotic cut is so mesmerizing that it could have been on Sasha and Digweed's Northern Exposure series of mix CDs back in the day. This is followed by "Shatter" - another melodic and intoxicating cut full of shimmering sequences, brooding pads and restrained rhythms all together perfect for drama and mystique on the dancefloor.

Review: Dressed head to toe in a jump suit, Ejeca serves up an EP of chunky, tried-and-tested dancefloor treats seemingly inspired by everyone's favourite 1980s adventure game show. He first opts for a physical task on opener "Unloving", a boisterous, retro-futurist big room house workout. Crystal safely tucked in his pocket, he charges through the all-new Jacking Zone (see "Standard Acid House Track") before pausing to catch his breath in the Industrial Zone, where the psychedelic atmosphere and raw analogue grooves of "Crystal Maze" await. Paul Woolford dons his Special Request guise to claim another crystal via a typically hardcore-influenced, bass-heavy re-make of "Unloving", before Ejeca heads towards the Crystal Dome to the accompaniment of late night techno shuffler "ISWHATIS".
