Review: Harvey 'El Choop' Jones returns to Echocord after Insane Sends. Like that 2021 release and the rest of his catalogue, Closing Motif is inspired by classic techno. In keeping with the Echocord style, "Faith" is a chord-heavy dub track. On the title track, Jones also chooses an esoteric approach. On this occasion however, it revolves around a more dance floor friendly, steely rhythm, which acts as the basis for billowing, dreamy synths. The label has also chosen two respected producers to reshape El Choop's work. Deadbeat turns "Faith" into a downtempo, hollowed out dubby affair. Luke Hess' take on "Closing Motif" is similarly introspective, but with an added layer of melancholy, rainy synths.

Review: To celebrate its first anniversary Lempuyang firmly stakes its claim amongst the forefront of deep techno labels with an outrageous line-up consisting of eight of the most respected heads in the business all doing their stuff. Among the highlights are the growling menace of Sa Pa's 'Randomer', Gradient's fizzy, dubbed-up 'Dopamine Rain' wearing its Basic Channel influence on its sleeve, the ghostly rave stabs of Deadbeat's 'Planterwald' among a sea of radioactive white noise and the clear, sculpted linear grooves of 'Growing Pains' by Bluetrain. That said, there's no weak link among the eight cuts and put together into one coherent package it's more than the sum of its parts.

Review: Harvey Jones is on a roll this year, landing releases on Ranges and Echocord and promptly following them up with this refined joint for Ornate Music. He's got a full bodied take on tech house that favours deep, meditative moods but expresses them through bold, richly rendered synth lines and crisp but warm drums. 'New Speak' has a taut house groove powering it, but the mellifluous ebb and flow of the chord line keeps things soft and sensual, while 'Old Speak' plumbs into a dub techno irrigation system without shirking it's responsibilities to the dancefloor. Nail's remix of 'New Speak' amps up the bump, hitting that sweet spot where upfront chunky house music can still cool you down.
