Review: Eliphino is a pseudonym for Tom Wrankmore, who has put put music under this guise on Secretsundaze and Meda Fury. He also released on Hypercolour back in 2013, and Maelstrom sees him make a timely re-appearance on the label. The title track is an unusual affair, with a swinging rhythm and glitchy percussion underpinning dreamy melodies. On "Bubbling Glass", the focus shifts to a more electro-based sound, with rolling 808s supporting fuzzy soundscapes, while on "Eddy", he raises the tempo to deliver a frenetic break beat track. Rounding off this distinctive release is the vocal-sampling broken beats of "One Day".

Review: Next up from the Breaks 'N' Pieces team, we see them assemble a top quality compilation drop for their second full releases, exploiting different areas of UKG with 6 stunning original designs. We begin with the nostalgic drumwork and warbling low ends of 'Summertime Breeze' from Highrise, kicking us off in high spirits and leading us into the higher paced drum skips and bass oscillations of DJ Sunroof's 'Intercom'. Next, Bartholomew Kind gives us a real switch up with a liquified D&B roller, stuffed with emotive energies left, right and centre, before the UKG flavours return with the romantic horn lines and stunning soundscaping of 'If I Were' from Nicolas Duque. Finally, Reynes deploys some expertly crafted rhythmic work with some super crunchy percussive manouvres on 'Spike's First Thing', before DJMC rounds us out in style with the moogy bass pulses and retro drum kits of 'Morning'. Lovely work from all involved!

Review: Tom Wrankmore AKA Eliphino has released some fabulous material in the past, though little quite as good as this mini-album on Secretsundaze. Melodious, atmospheric and quietly colourful, it sees the former First Word producer offer up a range of deep club cuts and seductive home listening tracks that draw influence from a wide range of styles and rhythms. Those listening attentively will notice nods towards jazz, broken beat, deep house, electro, jungle, Italo-disco, broken beat, acid, Detroit techno and Bleep, though few of the tracks can be easily pigeonholed. In other words, it's a triumphant seven-track trawl through electronic fusion that must surely count as Wrankmore's most adventurous and grown-up release to date.

Review: Eliphino is the nom du guerre of Leeds-raised, London-based producer Tom Wrankmore. He's been a bit quiet for the past few years, but here comes to Meda Fury with five tracks that'll delight fans of Special Request, or anyone else with a yen for classic dance music styles. 'Disc Rhythm' is up first, an excursion into sparse, junglistic territory, before 'Remedy' takes us all the way back to mid-80s Chi-town. There are more old school vibes on the rave- and speed garage-tinged 'NSPG', 'Realistic Sex' itself is an abstract, beats-y midtempo affair and finally there's a dose of good old-fashioned acid on 'Formula'. Rave on!

Review: Waze & Oddysey's W&O Streetracks imprint pulls together the likes of Eliphino, Ejeca, Citizen and XXXY for its first (unmixed) compilation released this Winter, W&O Streettracks Vol 1. Having clocked up eight releases on Street Tracks, it's the ideal time to throw down a milestone and document the sound of the label in one package and W&O Street Tracks does so with panache. The result of Waze & Oddyssey's plunge into their address book is a 12 track compilation that neatly reflects modern house music. Ejeca, Citizen and W&O themselves sit alongside newcomers like Mediman and Sage Caswell while the emergent talents of New Jack City and Eliphino make for a nicely profiled piece of work.

Review: Deep down don't we all wish for an analogue love? Warm, fuzzy, and a little bit unpredictable. Thankfully Berlin's Some Think Sounds are on hand to wrap us in their big arms and administer plenty of the above courtesy of a host of the label's many (remixed) highlights including Gang Colours' abstract glitch-step remix of Lucky Paul, Ossie's clicky rave-funk rework of "Back Of My Car", the tragic new romanticism of "Thought We Were Alone" and the show stopping, next-level, future disco of "Demon Spawn". A truly essential collection.

Review: Continuing to bring serious crossover heat to Somethinksounds, Eliphino is pulling no punches on his latest emission for the fledgling label. "Vrybdy" rides on a chunky, swaggering stomp that's just broken enough to move beyond being straight house music, while the samples come looping in with a barrel-load of hip-hop attitude. It's a thoroughly functional belter that will slot ably in between all manner of contemporary electronics. "Don't Make Sense" meanwhile gets all raggamuffin in its disposition, busting out the soca break and some cheeky MC licks for a steaming slice of summertime rowdiness.

Review: In the year since his first release for Somethink Sounds, Eliphino has seen his profile continue to rise, with releases on Hoya:Hoya and Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings under his belt. This EP for Somethink Sounds is arguably his most potent statement yet, crossing genres with ease, and evoking the sounds of contemporaries such as FaltyDL. "More Than Me" is a UK funky-infused deep house groover with spectral vocals; in a similar vein is "No More" which utilises skipping percussion over warm sepia tones and UK garage style vocals, while the melancholic 2-step of "Devoted" combines its rich melodies and soulful vocal samples with the skill of Hotflush artists Sepalcure. Perhaps the best of the bunch is "I Played"; a dark roller with a growling sub bass sitting beneath its rattling rimshots, it sounds quite unlike the rest of the EP but adds some vibrant nighttime energy which contrasts quite nicely with the summery vibe of the rest of the EP.
