Review: There has always been a strong underground reggae following in France and this release from Etienne Jaumet via the Versatile France imprint is the perfect example of how cool it can be. The first piece we hear on this tasty two tracker goes by the name of 'Unity' and is a fantastic exploration into the rhythmic possibilities of reverberations and delays, with a stunning horn lead running riot amidst fantastic drums and percussion. On the other side we are given the more chilled out flavours of 'In A Silent Way', a groovy bouncer, again being led by awesome saxophone movements and wicked drum designs.

Review: Zombie Zombie?s Etienne Jaumet is back and flying solo for some modern day jazz excursions on the always reliable Versatile imprint - a label he's been a known staple on for many years. From Sun Ra to Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman, Jaunet enjoyed revisiting classic jazz masterpieces and paying tribute to his inspirations. From the weirdo lo-slung groove of "Nuclear War", to the psychedelic freeform funk of "Spiritual" and the slo-mo acid jazz of "Caravan", he then allowed himself one personal and original composition in the form of the moody sax-led closer "Ma Revelation Mystique". A truly innovative exercise in genre hybridization by this modern innovator in French electronic music.

Review: With this new compilation, 10 Track That Would Help You For Cooking But Would Clear The Dancefloor, French label I'm A Cliche break away from their more usual electro house flair, and step into the realm of the unknown, the surreal, and the deeply experimental. Ranging from post-rock to coldwave and post-punk, this compilation is all about texture and subtlety, something that can be heard in tunes like "Fathers & Sons" by Bot'Ox, or the sublimely percussive "Dead Dog Farm" by Runaway. Other stand-out moments include the fast-paced polyrhythms of "Sticky" by Dixlexsix, the slow and balearic remix of Cosmo Vitelli's "Delayer" by Quiet Village, the distorted pseudo noise journey that is "Dreams Like A Tale" by Red Axes. Excellent and fully tipped!

Review: It's fairly rare that a remix will blow you away, but that's undoubtedly the case with Acid Arab's astonishingly good remake of Etienne Jaumet's Metallik Cages, the first single to be taken from the former Zombie Zombie man's forthcoming album, La Visite. Utilising only the briefest snippets from the original (sadly not included in this package), the Paris-based duo deliver a snaking, slow-building, deliciously paranoid rework that puts their exotic intentions and dense Middle Eastern percussion at the heart of the action. In truth, the clips don't do it justice; it's an amazing piece of work. Versatile boss Gilb'r sticks close to the druggy, EBM-inspired chug of the original on his solid Club Mix, but it's his Bonus Beats version - a trippy rhythm cut that makes excellent use of stereo panning effects and weird noises - that impresses more.
