Review: Falty DL back in the haus for Unknown To The Unknown only gaining more charm, wit and colour to the somewhat legendary producer name. Straight out of the blocks is "Mount Sinai", a frenetic streamlined flex of moving keys and pads, flurrying percussion and clubwise speed and breaks. Up there as streamlined trance as much as it is speed jungle, rave elements give tinges of euphoria and hardcore to "Wef EX 2C". The title track is more of a frenetic computer jam, with DJ Shadow sample culture combining with subtle Aphex tropes perhaps, while "Please Below" the unofficial B2 cut sleeper cut is a deep and floaty ID request for the person who hears it next. DJ!

Review: Following outings on Unknown to the Unknown and Blueberry Records in the last two years, Drew Lustman AKA FaltyDL makes his belated return to Studio Barnhus with a typically varied, imaginative and far-sighted EP. After teasing us in gently via the cascading, synth-heavy ambience of 'Wrath', Lustman brilliantly joins the dots between breakbeat, techno, slow jungle and spaced-out electronica on 'Stereo Zaddy'. He then peppers a tweaked dub house rhythm with alien-sounding melodies and warehouse-ready stabs on 'Night Regulars', while 'Roller' wraps a mangled UKG beat and bassline in woozy electronics and moody stabs. The NYC-based producer rounds off a fine EP with 'Lust', a gorgeously sparkling slab of ambient/IDM fusion.

Review: Drew Lustman has been relatively quiet by his standards this year, though he's still found time to offer up a couple of quality singles on Blueberry Records and Unknown To The Unknown. Here he makes his first appearance on Studio Barnhus with an EP that showcases two distinctly different sides to his multi-faceted musical persona. Title track "Flechazo" is a veritable drizzle of melodic positivity, with eyes-closed synthesizer motifs, sun-bright electronics and dreamy chords cloaking a crunchy, off-kilter deep house rhythm and suitably heavy bassline. In contrast, "New Lover" is a fair more warehouse-ready affair, with Lustman reaching for the mid-90s U.S garage riffs (think "Show Me Love"), bustling breakbeats, booming bass, sweaty female vocal samples and twinkling melodies.

Review: Talk about a great meeting of minds. FaltyDL's rave influences are well-known, and now he hooks up with DJ Haus' UTTU label to give full vent to those leanings. The impenetrably titled "Untitled 111vgr" sets the scene with rickety, nervous break beats providing the backdrop for dissected vocal samples and horror stabs. "Beast" is slower and more spaced out, with the US producer doing a compelling take on mid-90s Orbital. The title track mines a similar path, although on this occasion, he adds in some speak and spell samples and ominous synths to a bittersweet hardcore track. By contrast, closing track "Piano 4 9 18 Feux Master Erie 25%" is the soundtrack to the morning after the night before, an airy, atmospheric ambient piece.

Review: Within DJ culture, there's been plenty of discussion over the years about particularly tracks and EPs being more suitable for dancefloor spaces of different sizes. On this EP, Falty DL has decided to take the bull by the horns and serve up a trio of tracks tailor-made for different rooms. Thus, he begins with the throbbing, warehouse-friendly techno hum of "Big Room", where swirling, rave-era riffs ride a bombastic, kick-drum heavy techno beat, before dipping the tempo, breaking up the beats and reaching for the early hardcore samples on "Medium Room". Fittingly, he finishes with "Small Room", a dreamy, drowsy and more intimate affair rich in lilting flute-style melodies, eyes-closed vintage house vocal samples and gentle, dub-influenced hardcore-era breakbeats.

Review: To celebrate 250 parties, Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter, the residents at and organisers of Mister Saturday Night, have put together this wonderful compilation. It starts with the offbeat folk of Menelik Wossenatchu's "Tezeta" and the glorious, soulful disco of Soul Bros Inc's "Pyramid". The compilation veers back towards electronic sounds on the stripped back deep house of ESB's "On Cue" and the bleepy "Aches" from Baba Stiltz. FaltyDL's "Hardcourage" bridges the gap between the abstract and dance-floor structures, Marcellus Pittman drops the acid-soaked Detroit house of "There's Somebody Out There" and Kerrier District delivers the lush electronic disco of "Let's Dance and Freak".Then & Now is a wide-eyed, freewheeling compilation that captures the long-running New York party's essence.

Review: London/Bristol based tech house institution celebrates a decade in the business. They've seen a few faces and phases, tech-wise or otherwise but at the end of the day remained consistent in their pursuit of quality grooves. Alex Jones and Jamie Russell present some great music here and there are many highlights. From electronica legends such as Warp's Luke Vibert, minimal house pioneer Matthew Herbert (with the deep and dusty microhouse of "Downgraded") as well as techno's one time enfant terrible Neil Landstrumm through to new favourites such as Swedish hypnotic techno hero Sebastian Mullaert (the tunnelling "Shadowed By I"), Italian hardware mavericks The Analogue Cops plus up and comers Yaleesa Hall x Malin Genie with the banging' "Buchan Trap". We applaud the label for their ability to keep on the pulse of the ever changing electronic music landscape and heres to another ten years.

Review: NY neo garage pioneer FaltyDL deserves no introduction after the amount of gold he's been putting out over the last five years, a period of time where 'bass' music has evolved quickly and to the tune of people just this man; blending together shreds of garage, dubstep, hip-hop and drum and bass, FaltyDL has always managed to keep his sound fresh and alive. The man returns to London's Ninja Tune with some of his most daring work to date: "Rich Prick Poor Dick" is that is tied down by no specific genre, instead taking us on an odd and wonderful journey filled with strange outsider electronics, fast-paced 4/4 drums and intricate percussion stabs - a true hybrid. The "Bookaloo" tune offers yet more of Falty's diversity and versatility as a beatsmith, another solid piece of electronic music that takes no direct influence from one genre or style. Excellent, as expected.

Review: At a time when so many of its early contemporaries are rarely seen releasing these days, Planet Mu's 20th anniversary is even more of a cause de celebre. The powerhouse of uncompromising leftfield electronic music has pulled no punches when it comes to commemorating the time, drawing on the staggering roster including Kuedo, Remarc, Traxman, Falty DL, Machinedrum, Milanese, Vex'd, Neil Landstrumm and so very many more besides, bringing together tracks from the vaults, from forgotten times, some of which have never previously seen the light of day. With 50 tracks to delve into, this is enough of an education to school even the most learned mind.

Review: After his In The Wild LP dropped on Ninja Tune last year, Drew Lustman continues on an exploratory path for this new EP, revisiting tracks from the album, inviting remixers in to play with the parts, and offering up some fresh excursions into the unknown via tape processes and other such studio experiments. "Greater Antilles VIP" is certainly a patient creation, moving through orchestral swells loaded with melodrama and quietly tense moments of earthen percussion. u-Ziq delivers a remix of "Rolling" that harks back to the good old days of British electronica with its overdriven alien beats and melancholic synth swells, while Brrd goes positively ambient with his grainy version of "Frontin". Lustman's own broken beat revision of "Do Me" dazzles with autumnal grace, and the additional experimental pieces shed light on further experimental alternatives to the typical FaltyDL sound.

Review: The artfully titled Ninja Tune Traktion EP finds the storied label dip into their vast archives to offer Traktor DJs exclusive stems to help convolute their sets with a range of obscure sounds and classics. For some basslines and synths to throw over drums or percussion the Bogus Order Reorder of Falty DL's "Atlantis" is an obvious choice, as can be said about the snares and hyperactive synths of the Spacelab remix to Starkey's "Blood Roses". The manner in which Seiji messed with that classic synth riff to Coldcut & Hexstatic's "Timber" ensures his remix can always be left as is, and for something more melodic and liquid funky there's the chiming and remixed sounds of DJ Food's "Dark Lady".

Review: In the period since the release of his late 2012 album Hardcourage, Drew Lustman has founded his own label as well as dropping singles on Swamp81 and Ninja Tune, slipped out the odd remix and kept up a busy touring schedule. Where he managed to fit in the studio time for a fourth album In The Wild is not clear but a new FaltyDL long player will always be welcome. At 17 tracks long, In The Wild is Lustman's most comprehensive display of his production palette by some distance with the Brooklyn based artist using the afforded space to really go deep into his various creative impulses. It's a lot to take in immediately, but tracks such as "Frontin'" and "Ahead The Ship Sleeps" feel like FaltyDL on top form.

Review: Man like Drew Lustman returns to Ninja Tune for an excellent slab of forward thinking beat science under his universally acclaimed FaltyDL guise. It's nice to see FaltyDL back on the label after a stint overseeing the rise of his own Blueberry Records operation - expect much more from them in 2014 - and once again Ninja house Lustman's work in the classy throwback original Ninja Tune yellow and black housebag. The title track expertly rolls in the crawlspace between contemporary juke and early millennial broken beat with subtle hints of classic 60s spy cinema. It's complemented well by "King Brute," a collaboration with the superbly named Shanghai Den which spills with creeping atmospherics.

Review: "She Sleeps" made for a welcome surprise on Hardcourage, Falty DL's recent Ninja Tune released album, calling on Friendly Fires vocalist Ed McFarlane to add his immediately recognisable warbles to a glistening production. It's obvious single material - with the radio edit here adding further credence - and the wonderful original is further complemented by several big name remixes. Two of Lustman's fellow New York dwellers in the form of Gang Gang Dance and Ital contribute, the former adding unforeseen layers of ecstasy to McFarlane's vocals amidst a clopping beat and tropically infused melodic lead, whilst Ital goes in entirely the opposite direction, turning in a sludgy, strung out malfunctioning slab of techno. Meanwhile, 4Hero's Dego goes deep under his 2000Black alias; in his hands "She Sleeps" gets transformed into a wondrously bubbling analogue funker, not sounding dissimilar to the kind of soulful futurism Gifted & Blessed is noted for. Check the Martyn remix too, which retains only the line "I know that it's evil" from McFarlane's vocals; a neat trick that infers the sonic intent that the Dutchman crafts around it.

Review: There's always been something a little loved-up about the scattergun, genre-bending productions of New York's Drew Lustman, AKA Falty DL. Yet previously, his desire to fuse cutting-edge rhythms with vintage rave references sometimes got in the way. Hardcourage, his first full-length for independent behemoths Ninja Tune, takes a more 'softly-softly' approach. Whereas his last full-length, 2011's You Stand Uncertain, was a kaleidoscopic invitation to start the dance, Hardcourage gently beckons you towards a loving embrace. While there are still plenty of skittish rhythms present, they're wrapped up in a warm orange glow - all serotonin-soaked chords, cascading melodies, bluesy vocal samples and near-Balearic compositions. In many ways it's a startling about-turn, but one that comes heartily recommended.

Moving through the glittery funk-leaning post-dubstep of Fantastic Mr Fox, Mount Kimbie and James Blake, through techno contributions from Sei A, Randomer and Guy Andrews, and bass hybrids from Pangaea and Joe, the selections on offer demonstrate why Hemlock has been ahead of the game since its inception. As well as the individual tracks, a continuous mix is also on offer, joining the dots between their diverse releases with style.

Review: On the basis of the material FaltyDL has released with Ninja Tune thus far, his forthcoming third album Hardcourage should rank as one of the more interesting albums to surface in the first quarter of next year. Following the excellent throwback styles of "Hardcourage", the New Yorker showcases his seemingly endless palette of styles with "Straight & Narrow", a wonderfully colourful and vivid sounding production. Dominated by some deft vocal chopping, it's the way these cooing elements intertwine with the beguiling synth noodling and crisp almost handclap style beats that resonates deeply. Ballroom duo Mike Q and Divoli S'vere naturally latch onto the most obvious elements in the vocals and clapped beats, laying them atop a breathlessly frenetic rhythmic mainframe, Four Tet hogs the flip with a dewy eyed, slowly percolating seven minute remix that will tug at the heart strings of his legion of fans, while Gold Panda delivers a typically prismatic reworking that outdoes Hebden's effort in the melody stakes.

Review: There's always an air of uncertainty that hovers around a fresh Falty DL release before you set it off and submit your ears to it. Drew Lustman has adopted a chameleonic trajectory since first emerging just five years ago in the midst of a dubstep scene he didn't really fit in with. The cheeky old-skool stylings of a Ninja Tune sleeve last seen on a release back in 1993 give a fairly clear pointer of where this release is headed, and "Hardcourage" as a track is certainly not short of back-in-the-day reference points. Once a deceptive 4/4 thud lead in gets brushed aside, the centrepiece of the EP emerges; a rattling, metallic snare that seems so light as to buffet on the thermals given off by the immersive sub. Said snare is an instant evocation of early breakbeat, and when it works in conjunction with that domineering bass you can almost hear the light bulbs pinging for the inception of jungle all over again. "Our House Stab" works itself up to being a marginally more forthright beast, although the submerged strings and measured jack of the start of the track would have you thinking otherwise. Again the sub bass is king, pulsing with a shapeless quality that only accentuates the dreaminess that permeates this EP. While the source material is instantly recognisable, you simply can't argue with the care and grace with which Lustman uses it, giving the music a greater purpose than simple rave fodder.

Review: As one of the first labels to springboard off of the creative potential of dubstep, Ramp has hit release number 50 and what better way to celebrate than by looking back over some of the strongest tracks they've put out in six years. In terms of style, no one track is easy to pinpoint let alone the whole compilation, as you would expect from the likes of Zomby, 2562, Ras G, Doc Daneeka and lots more. The unifying theme would be one of bright, colourful but most importantly imaginative electronic that favours the bump n grind to the all out stomp.
