Errare Humanum Est
I Don't Know (feat Bob The Egoist) - (5:39) 125 BPM
Review: Some two years on from the release of his acclaimed 'A Landscape Onomatopeya' album on Shall Not Fade, Felipe Gordon delivers another fabulous full-length excursion. In the time that has passed since that set hit stores, the Colombian has become an even better producer and musician, and that's naturally reflected in the quality of the cuts on offer. There are naturally deep house gems aplenty - see the huggable, jazz-flecked grooves of 'Departing', warming and classy vocal number 'Authentic Feeling' (featuring Bob The Egoist), the simmering, sun-soaked 'Treat You Gently' and peak-time ready strut of 'What We Gonna Do' - but also some fine trips into downtempo deliciousness ('Para Jos', the album-opening title track), raging acid house ('Take It, Acid Comes'), and even a dash of modular synth-wave eccentricity ('Easel of Suave').

Makez - "Feel The Same" - (6:13) 125 BPM
Review: As part of Heist Recordings' ongoing 10th birthday celebrations, label founders Dam Swindle have decided to showcase some of the 'Hidden Gems' lurking in the imprint's back catalogue. It's a smart move, because there's plenty of high-grade dancefloor heat to be found across the 15 under-celebrated tracks on show. For proof, check the squelchy synth-bass, rushing piano riffs and classic house vibes of Fouk's 'Truffles', the gorgeous sci-fi techno melodiousness of Lord of the Samurai's 'Space Designer', the sun-splashed, jazz-flecked excellence of Crackazat's 'We Know', the low-slung, drum machine driven headiness of Adesse Versions' 'Push It Along' and the drowsy, soul-flecked late-night deepness pf Marina Trench and Sabrina Bellaouel's 'Wake Up'.

Impresiones Acidas
Impresiones Acidas (feat Greco Murillo) - (7:07) 127 BPM Hot
Impresiones (feat Greco Murillo) - (6:06) 127 BPM
Review: We've banged on about how much we enjoy Felipe Gordon's work before, noting that nearly everything he touches turns to musical gold. Predictably, his first outing on Clone's Royal Oak offshoot is superb, too. Opener 'Impresiones Acidas' is particularly impressive: a near-perfect fusion of hazy deep house, Tourist-era St Germain jazz-house and undulating, near psychedelic acid lines. It comes accompanied by a TB-303-free take, 'Impressiones' (where the original's luscious jazz guitar solos get more of an airing) and two bonus cuts: the sunshine-ready, jazzual deep house wonder of slowly shifting loop jam 'Can't You See' and the chunkier, piano-sporting deep house heaviness of 'Displacing Resolution'. In a word: impeccable!

Timeless
Felipe Gordon & Bob The Egoist - "Get Your Body Movin'" - (5:48) 129 BPM
Review: Is Felipe Gordon Colombia's most prolific producer? There's certainly a strong case that he is, with this Karakul label debut marking his 14th new EP since the start of 2021. You'd expect the quality to dip given that level of output, but as usual Gordon is in fine form throughout. For proof, check Bob The Egotist collaboration, 'Get Your Body Movin', a wonderfully warming chunk of gently soulful house rich in the Colombian's usual tasty Rhodes chords, jazz-funk-fired bass and subtle nods towards mid-90s US garage. On 'Timeless', Gordon douses hypnotic deep house beats and weighty bass guitar loops in ultra-dreamy chords and weary early morning intent, before 'Moving Results' delivers colourful, acid-flecked deep house perfection. Closing cut 'Take It Away', meanwhile, is a more tactile, spacey and loose-limbed chunk of eyes-closed deep house goodness.

Freedom EP
Freedom - (5:41) 125 BPM
Don't Wanna Try It - (7:03) 125 BPM Hot
Review: One-man musical whirlwind Felipe Gordon has been one of the deep house sensations of the last few years, notching up a formidable catalogue of subtly jazz-funk flavoured treats for all manner of labels. This EP for Toy Tonics marks something of a departure for the talented Colombian, as it marks the first time he's worked with a vocalist - fellow countryman Daniel Pardo AKA Bob The Egotist. The latter makes a big impression on title track 'Freedom', a weighty, wobble-bass propelled chunk of ultra-atmospheric, '90s-influenced deep house brilliance. The other four tracks on the EP are equally as impressive to be honest, with highlights including the flute-sporting, deliciously percussive 'Don't Try It', the shuffling, jazz-funk flavoured mid-tempo warmth of 'Time' (featuring marc Bianco) and the Georg Levin-esque brilliance of 'Expandable'.

Superimposition
Ventana Al Tiempo - (7:39) 126 BPM
Review: Six pleasingly varied deep house cuts here from Felipe Gordon, a Colombian producer whose work has appeared on labels such as Local Talk, Toy Tonics and Razor N Tape as well as his own Nomada Records. 'Mr Umbawa' is a pleasant little roller with hints of Afro and jazz flavas, 'Feeling All Over It' and 'For Jose And Martha' nudge towards Balearic territory, 'Inherently Deep' is yer classic-style deep houser with some very fine keys work while 'Ventana Al Tiempo' puts a squealing synth front and centre. The pick for yours truly, though, is 'Superimposition' itself - a garage-leaning organ jam to die for!

Lore Of The Samurai - "Justifice" (Fouk remix) - (5:28) 126 BPM
Felipe Gordon - "Highly Corrosive Acid" (Marina Trench remix) - (5:15) 129 BPM
Makez - "City Of All" (Lore Of The Samurai remix) - (5:54) 125 BPM Hot
Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from Heist Recordings' annual Round-Up EPs, namely label regulars and selected guests remixing each other. JKriv and Peter Matson do a terrific job in turning Fouk's 'Money' into a squelchy, TB-303-fired slab of nu-disco/retro-futurist house fusion, before Makez re-imagines Mariana Trench's 'Wake Up' as a jazz-funk flavoured broken beat number and Fouk re-frames a Lore of the Samurai track as a gorgeous slab of house-not-house sunshine. Elsewhere, Mariana Trench gives Felipe Gordon's 'Highly Corrosive Acid' a driving, riff-heavy deep house spin, Felipe Gordon opts for a drowsy and eccentric mid-tempo house sound on his version of JKriv and Peter Matson's 'New Friend', and Lore of the Samurai's rework of Makez's 'City of All' is a hypnotic, tech-tinged treat.

Subjoi - "2009" - (6:01) 126 BPM
Review: Shall Not Fade rounds off its busiest year to date with a sixth anniversary compilation that's packed to the rafters with previously unreleased tracks from its now sizable family of artists. Also reflective of the sounds showcased by Shall Not Fade's various sub-labels and offshoots, the 24-track set confidently strides between deep two-step (Black Loops), saucer-eyed ambient jungle (Kessler), colourful deep house (Lis Sarocca), lo-fi jack tracks (Cinthie), loopy disco-house (Adelphi Music Factory), jazz-funk flavoured house warmth (Felipe Gordon), analogue-rich broken beat (Yosh), post-UKG heaviness (DJ Crisps), jaunty and jazzy 4/4 garage (DJ Swagger) and the kind of smile-inducing, huggable dancefloor goodness that defies simple categorization (Tilman and Phonk D).

Reworks Vol 2
Crackazat - "Silent Sing" (Felipe Gordon Latin rework) - (6:59) 126 BPM
Review: Having kick-started his new remix series with inspired re-rubs of tracks by Kyodai and Fish Go Deep, man of the moment Felipe Gordon has now turned his attention to cuts from Crazkazat and Merrick. His revision of the former's 'Silent Sling' is undeniably inspired, with heady Latin percussion, jazzy keys and Motor City techno chords rising above rolling house beats and a heavy, mind-altering bassline. It's basically Latin deep house re-imagined for the 21st century, and that's no bad thing. There's more of a swinging, loose-limbed feel to his version of Merrick's 'The Scene', which the Colombian producer re-imagines as a bumpin', stab-happy affair full of raw analogue bass, dreamy pads and electronic jazz-funk flourishes.

Review: Last year, London DJ crew and party promotion outfit SlothBoogie delivered one of the compilations of the year, a wonderfully eclectic and on-point set entitled Dancing With Friends. According to the crew, they spent even more time carefully curating this welcome sequel. You can tell, too. Kicking off with the tactile, slow-burn deep house yearning of Soul Won's '96 to Albert Park', the 21-track collection ambles, strides and jogs between soul-flecked deep house (see Kemback's brilliant 'I Know What You're Thinking'), driving nu-disco (Jesse Bru), swirling deep jackers (Erik Ellmann's 'Private Talk'), loopy disc-house haziness (the always excellent Felipe Gordon), jazz-flecked acid squelch-alongs (Pablot), deep space sample house (Sam Irl) and high-octane, peak-time insanity (The Revenge). Simply brilliant.

Atlantic Exchanges Vol 1
Cody Currie - "No Future" - (5:11) 126 BPM
Review: As the title suggests, this dazzling EP is a trans-Atlantic collaboration between two genuine rising stars of house music: Colombian Felipe Gordon, and London's Cody Currie. Musically, the overriding theme of the EP is loose-limbed jazziness and the warming colour of jazz-funk, with the pair setting the tone via the ultra-deep broken beat vibes of 'Better Days' and the sparkling deep house/jazz-funk fusion of Ally McMahon hook-up 'Cold Nights'. 'Late Nights' is a cheery piano-house number laden with spacey synthesizer flourishes, while 'Our Love' is smooth and soulful deep house at its very best. The EP also includes a solo track from each, with Gordon's languid vocal deep house number 'I'm On Fire' being followed by Currie's bumpin' and bass-heavy 'No Future'. In a word: essential.

Astro - "Way Out" - (5:38) 128 BPM
Review: While it may have been designed to reflect the evolving nature of the label's sound over the last half-decade, Shall Not Fade's fifth anniversary compilation is nevertheless packed to the rafters with previously unheard treats. It begins with a techno-tempo blast of garage-influenced deep house warmth from DJOKO and ends with the dark, squelching and ghostly bounce of Dart's 'Transformations'; in between, you'll find 19 more reasons to be cheerful with plenty of serious dancefloor chops. Undisputed highlights include the crunchy, head-nodding pleasure of GVRL's instrumental hip-hop jam 'Love Game', the angular and acid spiked tech-breaks of Harrison BDP's 'The Powerful Play', the drowsy deep house dreaminess of Mutual Attraction's 'MPC Live Track 1' and the rushing rave revivalism of Baltra's killer re-fix of Earth Boys' 'I'm Not Afraid'.

Will Buck - "I'll B Right There" - (6:09) 128 BPM
Review: We're firmly of the opinion that Felipe Gordon is one of the breakout stars of 2020, thanks in no small part to a succession of must-check releases for such labels as Toy Tonics, Lost Palms and Local Talk. He's certainly the star attraction on this joint EP on Off Track Recordings, first dazzling with the chunky, warming and jazzy solo deep house cut 'We All Got The Time', before collaborating with fellow rising star Will Buck on the similarly Rhodes-laden peak-time workout 'Back Into Time'. Buck delivers two fine solo outings of his own, too: the sparkling jazz-funk-goes-classic house bump of 'I Think It's Too Late' and the riotously good angular acid-funk of 'I'll Be Right There'.

Review: To celebrate notching up ten years in the game, London blog and party-turned-record label SlothBoogie has decided to offer-up their most ambitious release to date: an epic collection of previously unheard cuts from a mixture of imprint regulars and like-minded friends. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, with highlights including the sparkling jazz-funk-meets-deep house sunshine of Levan's "U R Beautiful In The Face", the deep, breakbeat-driven dreaminess of Philippa's "That's What I Mean By Free", the piano solo-heavy disco-house bump of Leatherette's "Your Love", and the dub disco-meets-acid house heaviness of "Rewind Run" by Pablot. Throw in similarly impressive contributions from Kassian, Luvless, Casino Times and Soul Wun (the classic jazz-house of "Thank You, St Germain") and you have a must-have collection.

Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from Toolroom's "Poolside Ibiza" compilation strand, namely groovy nu-disco, house and laidback Balearic beats inspired by afternoons spent lounging by the water in stonking White Isle heat. Naturally, there are plenty of gems to be found amongst the 40 unmixed tunes selected by chosen DJs Moullinex and Xinobi, from their own collaborative post-punk/dub number "X Marks The Spot", to the slick '80s synth-pop dreaminess of Tensnake's fine remix of Xinobi's "Far Away Place" and the drowsy, Morricone-influenced soundscape weirdness of Simple Symmetry's remix of Moscoman's "I Ran". Throw in some seriously good cuts from Felipe Gordon, Donald Dust, Pin Up Club and Meera (whose carnival-ready boogie jam "Fine Without You" stands out), and you have a fine collection of summery cuts.

Acid Party At Teusaquillo (Seb Wildblood remix) - (5:37) 126 BPM
Review: Fresh from fine recent outings on Lovedancing and Quintessentials, rising star Felipe Gordon releases his first EP on Toy Tonics, a label he's been loosely affiliated with since contributing a track to a compilation style EP last year. The centrepiece of the EP is clearly "Acid Party at Teusaquillo", a cut that cleverly combines classic deep house elements (woozy chords, spine-tingling pianos) with the jacking rhythms and mind-altering acid lines of early Chicago house. While the track arguably didn't need remixing, we're rather enjoying the deeper, jazzier interpretation from Retrogott and DJ Qualle, not to mention the enveloping warmth of Seb Wildblood's Detroit Techno-meets-deep house rework.

Review: Another set of Waze & Odyssey's always reliable Street Tracks served up again on their Autumn Sampler. On offer here is Colombian producer Felipe Gordon's deep and bouncy "Rola Frita", Liverpool's Deep Space Orchestra with the hi-tech soul of "Quarterly Report" which follows in the tradition of local legends Stephen Brown or Vince Watson then My Cat Snoop: otherwise known as Brighton's Gregg Ashley, who throws down the tough and gutsy techno stomp of "Ghetto Child" that sounds like a Hot Creations track on steroids. London's Mella Dee closes out the compilation with the early '90's techno zeitgeist of "Franco" complete with a gnarly Reese bassline for good measure.

Deep Space Orchestra - "Quartley Report" - (6:19) 126 BPM
Mella Dee - "Franco" - (5:31) 128 BPM Hot
Review: As temperatures in the UK begin to plummet quicker than the leaves falling off the trees, W&O Street Tracks serves up something to warm even the chilliest of dancefloors. Their Autumn Sampler is an all-star affair, featuring four fresh cuts from friends and family. Felippe Gordon impresses with the cut-up, broken house strut of "Rola Frita" - all Syclops style wonky bass and sharply edited vocal samples - before Deep Space Orchestra deliver the thrusting, intergalactic house hustle of "Quarterly Report". Those looking for bombastic weightiness should check the boompty-influenced bounce of My Cat Snoop's "Ghetto Child", while Mella D's "Franco" fixes spacey synthesizer motifs to a surging, floor-friendly drum rhythm.

Review: We've come accustomed to Nein Records delivering a constant stream of psychedelic chuggers that sit somewhere between kosmische, nu-dicso and pitched-down acid. Intriguingly, this rare solo outing from Mercury member Felipe Gordon begins with a chunk of undulating, up-tempo deep house/tech-house fusion, and the EP just gets more intense from there. The metallic "Revolution" is particularly potent, with Gordon dragging the throbbing Munich disco sound of Giorgio Moroder through a collapsing munitions factory. "Nintechno" is a distorted, 8-bit dancefloor thumper, while Losbikini turns opener "El Caracas" into wobbly nu-disco chugger.
