Review: The Exhibit series aims to showcase emerging artists who operate at the raw end of the techno spectrum. While not a new act, label owners Slam get the ball rolling with their own "Exhibit 3", which revisits the raw, jacking sound of their Snapshots release. EJA's "Detachment Theory" represents a more contemporary take on underground techno. Led by a pumping, heads-down groove and relentless, doubled-up claps, it also features mysterious synth builds. Similarly atmospheric sounds inhabit Skjöld's "Stearic Acid" - but on this occasion, they are woven into a stripped back, percussive groove. Favouring a more abrasive direction, ANNĒ's "Keinlicht" revolves around a visceral rhythm and ominous synth lines, echoing vintage Steve Bicknell.

Review: The ninth instalment of Dynamic Reflection's Vault compilation series achieve a fine balance of depth and force. There's the reflective break beats of Joey M's "Listen to Me", Detroit producer Uun's dubbed out "Cyclical Nature" is a deeply atmospheric affair and Luigi Tozzi's "Irini" is populated by chiming melodies. However, that's not to suggest that this volume has abandoned the label's tougher dance floor approach, and Vault contains heavy contributions that counterbalance the more introspective pieces. There's the tearing bass and hypnotic bleeps of Linear Straight's "Epoxy", while Fixeer's "Mito" is a linear affair led by driving percussion and Sleeparchive-like tonal repetition.

Review: In what is fast developing into a state of the techno nation compilation, Illegal Alien delivers the second volume of Between Lands & Oceans. The Advent's "Tall Whites" is a lean, pacy techno track that takes the listener back to the act's mid to late 90s sound, while on "Aztek", Vinicius Honorio drops a similar, albeit more abrasive club track and Fixon's "Small Doses" is a rough take on Chicago ghetto techno. In contrast, N?rbak's "Rule Of Rescue" is a more nuanced, stepping track, while Abstract Division's "Encoder" and Merino's "Entering Colundi Galaxy" both focus on a subtle, tonal take on techno, inspired by Sahko and Sleeparchive.

Review: Jose Pouj's label has put a number of split Eps before, and like previous such releases, Paranormal Sequences Vol 1 is successful in showcasing new, emerging talent. Michel Lauriola goes down a Robert Hood-influenced route with the visceral minimalism of "Sequence 1". A different dynamic is at play on Fixer's "Sequence 2", where dubbed out drums and ticking percussion see the track build gradually. Fixon, who has released on Illegal Alien, delivers the metallic, industrial sounding "Se-quence 3", while Dr Cyanide's "Sequence 4" is a pulsating, tripped out techno workout that is remi-niscent of Sandwell District at their most discordant.

Review: The second split Mutable Minds release continues in the same mind-melting vein as the first instalment. Label owner Pfirter sets the tone with the distorted acid, pile-driving percussion and distorted kicks of "Anti Routine". On "Sleepwalker", newcomer Fixeer recalls the most visceral moments of early Planetary Assault Systems, as gained drums and busy layers of metallic percussion come together for an intense arrangement. Kuf & Dold's "Mint" ups the pace with a pounding rhythm track that resounds to doubled up claps, pounding 4/4s and gnarly riffs, while the most reserved contribution comes in the form of Jonas Kopp's dubbed out "Biorritmo".
