Review: Hunger pangs, love pangs, any type of pangs you have, these sounds will soothe as Redeyes label FIVE ALLEY take us out dancing in the rain with a collective of talented artists. Trail sets the lead with a hazy soul affair 'Wouldn't Believe' before Kublai dusts of the pianos for the sober introspection of 'Time To Think.' Things take more of a cosmic turn when Flaco rolls through with 'All Night' and Zar's earnest 'Memory Lane' is the emotional cherry on the cake. Bang the pangs.

Review: Having twisted our melons and squeezed our souls last month with the first volume, man like Flaco returns to Influence to finish what he started with the second part of this "4 To The Floor" concept. "Neon City" sets the levels super high with a solemn and soulful jazzy vibe before "Odyssey" looks up to the stars and sends us spacebound. Elsewhere "Phantasm" whips up a seductive yet dark rolling edge before "Say Goodbye" brings the EP to a close. A collab with fellow US stalwart Jamal, it's a percussive rattler that bites and barks with fierce energy. Four thumbs up.

Review: Influence regular and all-round US D&B don Flaco returns with a stunning voyage into the most futurist of pastures. Each cut hitting with that vast, spatial sci-fi sheen that Influence have made their signature, 'Crystals' sets the tone and pace with an ice cold trip into giant craggy landscape of planet stepper. Elsewhere 'Ganymede' nods at the sounds and style of J Majik or Mark System with its crisp emotional clarity, 'Passenger' takes us deeper into the night with a much darker and tense AI-style flex while 'Your Gift' closes on a more contemplative, introspective vibe. Stunning from edge to edge and not a 4x4 beat in sight!

Review: Liquid D&B 4 Autism return with another exciting VA to raise money for charities that help those with autism, especially in countries where support isn't accessible or available. The turn-out, as with the previous collection in 2020, is immense with a whole host of talents stepping up with vibes galore ranging over 50 tracks. Highlights include the solemn yearns of Edward Oberon's 'Love Will Get Us Through', Anthony Kasper's warm and stretchy 'Life Ain't Perfect', Bachelors Of Science's 'Light Me Up' and Furney's hazy 'De La Soul Saturday' but that really is just the tip of what this album has to offer. Get involved and support a great cause.

Review: A few steps ahead of the current new generation who are taking names and changing the North American drum & bass game, Flaco's been doing bits in the US scene for over 20 years now and here we find him coming correct with his precision debut album Balance. Delicately treading the line between dark, light, soulful and heavy, the album is a powerful snapshot of Flaco's skills and musical might. Highlights include the Detroitian ice of the dark stepper 'Logic', the burning Latin fire and full flavour funk of 'The Salsa Roller' and the understated subtle bubbles of 'Turnaround'. Massive album, this one keeps on giving on every listen and every play.

Review: Joining dots between two sounds that came from the same mindset and very similar streets and cultural context, Influence Records have curated something incredibly special here with 'Diaries From Detroit'; a VA collection boasting some of the most talented names across the D&B generations from Seba to Conrad Subs. All exploring those cold futuristic aesthetics that both jungle and Detroit techno share, highlights can be found at every twist and turn but you'd be crazy not to check the likes of subtleties and immense subs of A Audio's 'Mercury', the ice cold grumbles of Lynx's 'De-Tro' and the shimmering dub techno influences on L-Side's powerful 'Point Of View'. What a collection.

Review: Flaco steps up to Influence with two deliciously soulful cuts right here. 'Reveal' takes the lead with a strong Marcus / Soulr flavour. Swinging, soft focus, filtered. You could imagine this going down in Movement at Bar Rumba or Swerve at The End 20 years ago - understated and so cool. 'Never Understand' has more of an Exit or mid 2000s Commix flavour to its vibe. Cosmic star-gazing material with precision breaks and so much space Bezos could park 100 phallic rockets in there. Ready for take-off?

Review: Flaco is one of the most versatile and experienced producers in the game, and he's working alongside a label with this EP that shares an equally illustrious pedigree. This EP is what it says it is - Classy - as Flaco rolls out with abandon across several different cloths and textures, a diversity that really makes all five tracks shine. 'Breezy' is the gulliest of the lot, a growling, flowing number which moves and sways with relentless melodic progression, each bass sound gently yet destructively moving through one another. Teej steps up with a minima, finger-click remix of 'Furnace', and 'Jungle' scratches an itch for all of you who like things rough and breaksy.

Review: Flaco is an old-hand on the liquid drum & bass tiller, with work on V Recordings and elsewhere, and this time he's on Heist and Benny Co-Lab's Liquid Lab label for a frollicking, soulful release that draws from the currents of classic liquid. Its title tune is the standout, as Fourier's vocal work provides the finishing flourish to a deft, well thought through arrangement that sees twinkling piano touches move through sparkling synth nodes and honest drums. 'Possession' is equally top class with its fluttering, 80s influences synth work, whilst 'Just In Time' packs the biggest bassline of the bunch, as it spasms and twirls through cyberspace in a manner reminiscent of FD. Truly lovely.

Review: Time for a freshness flex: Shogun return to their new and rising talent series Point Of Origin and once again it's a big deal with 15 crucial cuts from 20 outstanding and future-shaping artists; from the already established and massively respected such as Serum, Paul T & Edward Oberon, who follow up last year's massive "Take My Breath Away" with the deep space slinker "Burning", and Paul SG with his decidedly wobbled-out drumstick snapping roller "Holy Moly" right the way through to exciting new energies in the dance like Phaction, with his ghostly-vocalled soul-out "Distant Lovers" and Neve & Crimson's beautifully blue-notated jazz drum dark-out "Solar Rain" and so many stunning cuts in between (Mitekiss, Gerra & Stone, Was A Be, Macca & Loz Contreras, the list goes on) this is Shogun at its most exciting and forward-thinking.

The list goes on. As on point as ever, Chronic are constantly smoking.

Review: It's been a while since Flaco last blessed our playlists with freshness. Making up for lost time, he's back with six breezy originals on Heist's Co-Lab. "Difference" is an instant recall to his Innerground material thanks to the jazzy vocals and swooning chords, "Rain" is a darker midnight rave jam, "El Yunque" is a little more subversive, lean and wobbly (think Jam Thieves or Unreal), "Wind Up Toy" is a Jaydan style gutter grinder while "El Ratone" is a much breezier roller that nods gently towards more soulful pastures. Finally "Want You" brings us back down to reality with dreamy vocals and synths so cosmic you'll start considering buying shares in dream catchers.
