Review: Melbourne's Voyage are back with more classic house sounds for nostalgics, courtesy of London's Flori: flying solo here after a successful run of tracks with sparring partner Ethyl. An ode to the unexplored landscapes of Mars (as the label puts it), Flori 'uses a refined aesthetic, not dissimilar to the original star gazers of Detroit, to imagine and encapsulate the reality of being alone on Point Lake.' We couldn't have said it better ourselves. More soulful and emotive techno from yesteryear is finally executed on the splendid "Alone On Point Lake" up next. To close out the EP is one more serving of evocative hi-tech soul in the form of "Pink Cliffs" that calls to mind classic sounds on pioneering imprints such as Planet E, Peacefrog and Strobe back in the day.

Review: Fresh from releases on Secretsundaze, Freerange and Quintessentials with pal and sometime production partner Ethyl, young deep house producer Flori (aka Himley-based Jamie Taylor) strikes out on his own. The EP's four tracks give a good demonstration as to where his head's at right now. Crackly opener "Dusty Socks" strikes a near perfect balance between hypnotic deepness and soft-centred musicality, while the throbbing futurism of "Frosty Leo" demonstrates his love for classic Detroit techno. "Foldings" impressively combines deep house grooves and Detroitian melodies, while "SU-3150" recalls the sun-flecked melodies and basement atmospherics of Mr Beatnik.
