Review: Next up on Suara is Sebasti?n Lopez aka Flug to deliver a follow up to 2018's The Hedonist. The title track is a pounding slice of techno that resounds to rolling snares and tweaked acid lines, with these elements supporting a ponderous vocal sample. On "Nightmares", Lopez opts for a similar approach by deploying a throbbing bass, but this time combining it with tingling keys instead of the arcing 303s. Meanwhile on "Isolated", he throws down a pulsating groove and the kind of gurgling acid lines that wouldn't sound out of place on a Tin Man record. In contrast, "Winter Mood" is a far darker, grittier affair underpinned by rough kicks.
Review: Sebastian Lopez aka Flug has a string of releases to his credit on labels like CLR and 100% Pure, but Rejected could be his biggest release so far. The title track is a frenetic, acid-laced affair that resounds to roiling snares and a hypnotic vocal loop, like Plastikman crossed with Chris Liebing. On "M32", Lopez takes a somewhat deeper approach, with a focus on a linear, heads-down rhythm that resounds to mesmerising electronic tones. The addition of Sam Paganini as remixer also guarantees that Rejected will appeal to a wider techno audience - and the Italian super star doesn't disappoint, dropping a tough, acid-heavy DJ tool.
Review: With a hot run of records this year coming from Pan-Pot, Amelie Lens and Industrialyzer alone, Second State Audio closes out 2019 with a compilation taking in tracks from label regulars and newcomers, with highlights coming from Secret Cinema, Gary Beck and Carlo Lio. The latter hooks up with John Rundell with a techy number of warehouse beats and neon synths in "Parallax", while Beck turns in a booming slab of vocal dub techno with "Rapture". Raffaele Rizzi supplies some darker synth and rave inspirations in "Fluorescence" with more '90s influnces abound in Hyperloop's "A Journey". For something more industrial and militant there's JNO & Giovanni Carozza' "Crispy" with Sara Simonit delivering some classy streamlined techno in "13 Guns". Chk chk.
