Review: For the second edition of the in-house FLDIN imprint, Fold returns for another unique excursion into experimental bass music, with a brand new single that takes the title 'Bottomless Brunch'. As far as originals go, this one packs a seriously smokey punch, focussing on a unique fusion of alien-like bass tones and choppy garage drum-lines, all tied together with hard hitting subs below and a generally eerie feel. Standing out within a very packed out garage scene in 2024 is extremely difficult, but we do believe that tracks like this are the key to doing-so, making this a standout drop of the year for us so far.

To kick-start 2020, the label has decided to celebrate this facet of their output via an expansive compilation of previously released highlights. There's a peak-time ready feel from start to finish, with our picks of a very impressive bunch including the bustling, riff-heavy techno pump of KETTAMA's "In The Garage", the sunrise-ready, melody-heavy bliss of Harrison BDP's epic "Watching The World Go By", the sleazy, acid-fired growl of Big Miz's "Primordial Soup" and the dusty-but-sparkling, emotive rich broken house brilliance of Contours' "Fifth Planet". In a word: essential.

Review: Two weeks shy of 12 months since his last outing on Shall Not Fade, Rob Glassett dusts down the Fold alias and unveils his first single of 2019. As expected, Glassett starts in confident mood via the deep and drowsy "Some Common Sense", where a variety of vocal snippets and jazzy samples ride sweaty drums and a dubby bassline, before doffing a cap to vintage jazz-house on the sun-kissed breeziness of "Writers Anthem" (those of a certain vintage may recognize the main sample, which was used on a classic Ninja Tune release). "Onion Gravy" is a chunky, sample-rich deep house box jam of the sort popularized by S3A, while "Astral Planes" brilliantly joins the dots between intergalactic Detroit techno and dreamy, ultra-deep house.

Review: Following last year's loan move to Shall Not Fade, Fold (AKA DJ/producer Rob Glassett) returns to his regular home, Aus Music. It's his first release on Will Saul's label for almost two years. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the tribal-inspired drums, humid aesthetics and deep Afro-house vibes of "Knobbly Bobbly" and even deeper "Aegean Sea" - a track that simply exudes drowsy, sun-kissed warmth - to the blissful melodies and snappy drums of the undeniably delicious "Marimba Echoes". Shall Not Fade regular Mall Grab provides a fine remix of that track in which he re-imagines it as an acid-flecked chunk of two-step, Afro-deep goodness.

Review: London producer Fold has built up a small but respectable discography of 12" releases, largely for local capital concerns Man Make Music and Electric Minds. He's also got something of a penchant for humorous titles, which is on full display for this debut Fold 12" on Will Saul's Aus Music label. Calling your record Netflix and Chill might put off the house purists with no time for internet memes, but you can't fault the standards of Fold's productions here. Lead cut "Calmer Mood" features some fine sampling over skipping drums and a hefty bassline, whilst the appropriately named "Wallop" could be mistaken for a Maurice Fulton track. On the B-side, the drum heavy jungle-house hybrid makes for a refreshing change of tone and is backed by a killer Kassem Mosse remix.
