Review: Clocking it at just under 2.5 hours long, you certainly can't fault this Rare Wiri year-end label comp on the value for money front! With 23 tracks on offer there's no room here to go into them all individually, and you probably have a pretty good idea of the label's particular electronic, 80s-leaning flavour of nu-disco anyway. Suffice to say, then, that Rare Wiri's many existing fans will be more than satisfied while newbies - if there are any left! - should start with AINZ's chunky, sleazy 'Hangover', the Italo strut of From Beyond's 'Non Analogue', MR Gee's throbbing 'Gravity', Rune Lindbaek's sci-fi refix of Ilya Santana's 'Cosmos Rising' or, a personal fave, Kelton Prime's 'Disco Arpeggio', wherein nu-disco meets garage vox...

Review: Born back in 2008, Rayko's Rare Wiri mark their 200th release with an album-length compilation featuring 12 brand new cuts from what the man himself describes simply as "some of my favourite artists out there". The album starts out in laidback, Balearic mode with Secret Soul Society's 'Draw Of The Cards' and ends up back there with Manolo's 'By The Moon', but in-between you'll find the looping, funked-up deep house of Fran Deeper's 'Lost Baby', the shape-throwing 80s Faltermeyer-isms of Kelton Prima's 'The Beggining', Ilya Santana's floor-friendly cover of Vangelis's 'Dervish D', the electro nouveau of From Beyond's 'Star Slip' and more besides. Review: Spa in Disco and Rare Wiri regular Fran Deeper pitches up on Hot Digits with a fine EP of floor-focused nu-disco workouts liberally sprinkled with authentic instrumentation and saucy samples from unknown 1970s and '80s gems. Check first the colourful electrofunk synths, tactile nu-disco grooves and whispered female vocal samples of 'Night Tropic', before moving on to the deeper, warmer and jazzier excellence of 'Groove Garden' and he nu-disco, deep house and dub disco fusion of 'Friday Rhythm'. To round off the EP we're presented with two remixes of 'Night Tropic': a shuffling, nu-disco-tinged deep house re-wire courtesy of Ian Upfolds, and a pulsating, acid-fired peak-time take by JayEdits.

Review: Spa in Disco main man and long-serving nu-disco/house fusionist Fran Deeper is in fine form on 'Funky Moment', a mid-tempo affair that more than lives up to the promise of its title. Built around a bubbly, low-slung groove rich in rubbery bass guitar and skittish drum machine percussion, the track comes laden with snaking sax lines, spacey synths and just the right amount of intergalactic intent. Ladies On Mars kicks off the accompanying remix package with a warming, rolling nu-disco revision that adds in some razor-sharp synth strings and a touch more peak-time potential, before rising star Andy Buchan smothers it in crispy disco-funk guitars and even more spacey synth sounds. To round off the EP, Sauco delivers a take that joins the dots between dub disco and revivalist electrofunk.

Review: Three fine slabs of electronic disco here from Spain's Fran Deeper, brought to you by Chewy Rubs' Bandolier label. The title cut is a deep, proggy throbber augmented by bouts of sci-fi synths and the occasional rave-y whoop and/or holler. 'Keep Calm Baby' is a more archetypal 'nu disco' affair with Italo-ish synths and snatches of Chris Rea-like semi-spoken male vocal, while finally the package is completed by the lighter, more shimmer-y 'Low Calories', which sports some cool 70s-sounding strings alongside its shiny 80s synths. All three are very playable but the title track leads the charge for yours truly.

Review: On his latest outing for the record label he launched nine years ago, Fran Deeper is in fine form, offering up the kind of attractive, synth-heavy nu-disco jam that has become his forte in recent years. In its' original mix form, 'One Way' cannily combines rising and falling synthesiser lead lines with unfussy drums, metronomic dub disco bass, arpeggio style electronics, echoing vocal snippets and bubbly electronic melodies. It comes backed with two decent remixes: a piano-heavy Balearic nu-disco workout from long-serving Argentine producer Julian Sanza, and a slightly deeper and even more colourful rework courtesy of Sauco.

Review: For the latest missive on his popular and prolific Spa In Disco label, Fran Deeper has joined forces with sometime label artist and semi-regular Rayko collaborator Manuel Costela. The pair's original mix is thickset and groovy - a warming, bass-heavy, mid-tempo chunk of nu-disco/summery deep house fusion smothered in rolling percussion, stargazing chords, twinkling effects and languid, laidback synthesiser flourishes. Athenian producer and Leng Records regular Lex reaches for Wurlitzer style organ sounds on his chunkier, marginally more up-tempo remix, dragging the track a little closer to peak-time dancefloors in the process, while James Bright's EP-closing version is brighter, breezier and undeniably more electronic -a sparkling nu-disco workout that should put a fair few smiles on faces when dropped at the right time.

Review: Spa In Disco boss Fran Deeper has been responsible for some sizzling music over the last few years, with both original productions and peak-time-ready re-edits on the menu. The Spanish producer's latest single seemingly sits somewhere between the two camps, with 'Sunglasses' delivering a sun-soaked instrumental disco workout rich in echo-laden trumpet solos, Nile Rodgers style guitar licks, Bernard Edwards-esque bass and characterful Clavinet lines. It comes backed with two remixes: a more Clavinet and guitar-heavy house-not-house workout (complete with a spine-tingling breakdown) from Matteo Matteini, and a joyous, life-affirming piano-house take courtesy of Sauco.

Review: Spain's Rare Wiri serve up four disco/nu-disco cuts that aren't actually as Latin-leaning as the title may lead you to believe. Label boss Rayko and Fran Deeper join forces on a cover of The Steve Miller Band's classic 'Abracadabra' that has a few flamenco guitar flourishes at the start, sure, and the panpipes that grace Hotmood's 'Rapture' (NB: not the Blondie track) hint at South/Central American influences, but elsewhere Cuz Electric's 'Got The Feeling' is a sleazy electric disco-funker with an early 80s feel while Monsieur Von Pratt's 'Tonight' is sheer late 70s NYC exuberance. So check for this whether you're a Latin lover or not!

Review: It had to happen eventually! Two leading lights of the Spanish nu-disco scene, Rare Wiri main man Rayko and Spa In Disco boss Fran Deeper, come together on one EP with predictably high-quality results. In its Original form, 'Desestabilidad' is a hypnotic, pulsating cut in which a big fat squelchy bassline throbs away at the bottom end while arpeggiated synths shimmer and sparkle on top. Alex Arcocha provides a dreamy, Balearic-leaning house remix, while if you need a more stripped-back n' dubby pass for small-hours play, then see the second remix, which comes from the currently on-fire Manuel Costela.

Review: Two solid slices of cosmic disco here from Mallorcan scene stalwart Fran Deeper, brought to you by Rayko's Rare Wiri imprint. "Canalla" itself starts out with perky, sprightly synths before breaking out a stuttered bassline, space disco stabs and what sounds suspiciously like a cheeky sample from Buck Rogers' pal Twiki. From there on out it's epic synth sweeps and reverb a-gogo on a cut that'll inspire the throwing of shapes on dancefloors for sure, while the package is completed by "Mercy Madamme", which is in a broadly similar vein but has a fatter bottom-end and a more rolling feel.
