Review: Franck Roger's "Cosmic Tree EP" marks a captivating journey into the realms of deep house, where Parisian finesse meets the legendary aura of NYC's Nu Groove Records. As an esteemed DJ, crate digger, and label maestro of Real Tone Records, Roger's prowess in crafting immersive sonic landscapes is on full display across these four tracks. The EP opens with "Part Of My Soul," a collaborative effort with Detroit luminary Rimarkable. Here, Roger's signature loop-based approach intertwines seamlessly with Rimarkable's vocals, evoking a cool downtown vibe that feels both timeless and fresh. From there, Roger takes the reins solo, delving into the depths of deep club weight with "The Music" and unleashing the percussive groove of "Radik'Hall." Review: Desolat has decided to reissue a number of EPs and compilations from their long-running X-Sampler series, which initially appeared on vinyl in limited numbers. This edition dates from 2010 and features some seriously essential cuts. For proof, get your ears around the jazz-flecked tech-house swing of Martin Buttrich's 'Roads', the percussion-laden late-night weight of Guti & Audikofly's locked-in 'Speechless Theory 11', the typically booming, big room-friendly hypnotism of Locodice's 'Don't Make Signal' and the evocative, atmospheric deep house haziness of Franck Roger's rather terrific 'Egotrippin'. DJ Sneak's 'No Challenge', a driving, muscular and bass-heavy beast with Latin overtones, is also exceptionally good.

Review: French label Politics Of Dancing are back celebrating three years in the business (already!) with great releases by the likes of Lopaski, Carlos Sanchez and Two Diggers of Robsoul fame. There's a great cast on here to celebrate, with legends new school and old alike. Franck Roger's soulful, deep and uplifting "Night To Live", Berlin young gun Nick Beringer's deep swing on "Juicy Lucy", London underground hero James Barnsley's "Play The Game" and Senzala's "Spiral" too: which channels the early noughties tech house vibe of local legends D'julz or David Duriez. And there are many more highlights where they came from. Congrats!

Review: Amazingly, 2014 marks 20 years since the launch of Ralph Lawson's 2020 Vision. The Leeds-based imprint is celebrating in typical style, with Content, a mix of previously unreleased tracks from the label founder. This first sampler features cuts from two vastly different producers; Bristol-based heavyweight Eats Everything and deep house stalwart Franck Roger. The former kicks things off with "Adam", a robust, clanking, industrial-influenced tech-house cut that recalls some of the label's classic late '90s/early 2000s moments from the likes of Random Factor and Paul Woolford. Roger, meanwhile, goes all sweet and sensual - with a touch of tech around the edges, of course - on the smooth and baggy "Too Blind To See".
