Review: It's been well over a year since Breakbeat Paradise last compiled a 'best of' collection. Since then they've delivered countless party bombs from some of the very best in game. In case you missed any, this is the perfect time to get up to speed. Highlights include Kool Hertz En Vogue homage "Whatta Joint", Morlack's p-funk party attack "Funkafize Me" and Prosper's slinky, sultry bass stalker "Slutty Snoop". Label compilations don't get much more satisfying that this - if you missed any Breakbeat Paradise releases recently then get up to speed right now!

Review: Flip the switch and get with the program: evergreen party purveyors Breakbeat Paradise have commissioned a whole bunch of reversions and each one is an instant booty-buster. Highlights abound throughout this raucous bass-bizzled nu-funk adventure but only a twit wouldn't pack Badboe's rub of Kool Hertz En Vouge sampling sizzle-up "Whatta Joint", JiggyJoe's orchestral disco-strung halfstepper rub of Calagad 13's "Back To The Power" or Badboe's take on Rudd's Supremes-slicing "Shake It Out". Paradise found.

Review: With only a handful of singles and remixes under their belt, Fretless shock the system with an entire album of sizzling party-starting flavours. Recruiting an impressive gang of vocalists - MC Shureshock, Funkin Irie, Q-Dup, Kween G, Jimme A, Haul - there's a strict consistency kept running throughout as we whirl and waltz amidst numerous styles. Impressive moments are plentiful. Fine examples can be found in the township style "Thin Ice" (think Paul Simon's Graceland produced by Diplo), the laid back style backpacker hip-hop of "One Life" and the slamming breakbeat battle dance of "El A Bongardo". You want more? Good, there's nine more tracks on offer here, each one as good as the last. Debut albums don't come much funkier.

Review: Presenting another collection of the best nu-funk and ghetto breaks from the Breakbeat Paradise label, volume 2 of Paradise Breaks contains a killer selection of hip-hop, funk and bass work from artists at the top of their field such as Badboe, Morlack, Breakbeat Junkie and Jazz K Lipa. Among the 15 tracks, look out for Pimpsoul's low-slung remix of Badboe's "One of Those Days" and the re-energised Southern soul of Jiggy Joe and Prosper's "Sweet Home Smoke".

Let Go The Past EP
Let Go the Past (feat MC Shureshock - original mix) - (4:31) 140 BPM
Let Go the Past (feat MC Shureshock - Will Styles remix) - (4:58) 140 BPM
SOS (feat Qdup Foundation - original mix) - (4:29) Hot
SOS (feat Qdup Foundation - Omegaman remix) - (4:34)
Review: Ignoring the title for a moment (surely it should be "Let Go Of The Past"!?), this dubwise bass music shuffler from Fretless is a lot of fun. The original version is a bit of a curiosity, sitting somewhere between dubstep, breaks and radio-friendly pop with silky-smooth vocals amd ruffneck toasting from MC Shureshock. Will Styles remixes, upping the wobble factor for those who enjoy being slapped round the chops with botty-bothering bass. Virtual flipside "SOS" offers something a little more traditional, mixing sharp horns and other funk elements with P-funk squiggles, thick bass pulses and faithfully snappy breaks. A solid package is rounded off by a jaunty, P-funk flavoured remix from Omegaman. Highly recommended.
