This release showcases two distinct tracks that bridge the gap between underground house aesthetics and sophisticated jazz sensibilities. "Change Demo (Synth Solo)" is an intriguing exercise in minimalist production, with Vega crafting a backbone entirely from 808 sounds while Tosca's synth work takes center flight. The result is a hypnotic groove that somehow manages to feel both stripped-down and lush simultaneously. Review: For those who don't follow Louie Vega's activities with a laser-like focus, Funki Cadets is one of the Masters At Work man's many alternative aliases, though a rarely used one. He's reactivated it for the first in what promises to be a series of EPs featuring previously unreleased material from the archives. Vega starts with 'Froton', a warm, deep and dreamy workout built around bouncy Afro-house inspired beats, deep Rhodes chords, Afrobeat style keyboard stabs and mazy synth solos. Regular musical partner Kenny Dope joins in the fun on 'Flames', a more percussively dense roller where brilliantly programmed and layered beats are joined by weird effects and occasional slithers of melody.
