Review: It's becoming quite a common occurrence for us at Juno to open up the forthcoming box and find a piece of gold delivered direct to us from the Breakbeat Paradise Recordings crew, with this latest four track remix run out from Funkin Basstards being another example of that. We kick off with the energetic BadboE rework of 'Feel The Vibe', which realigns Sofia Kamina's soulful vocal presence with a thumping breakbeat drumline, followed by the super groovy guitar shuffles of Jayl Funk's '2000' remix. Next, Pecoe arrives to deliver an experimental chop of 'Drop The Mirrorball', before Sons Of Satin round the project off with their dancefloor ready breaksy shake up of 'Soul Disco'. It's a good vibe from start to finish!

Review: Katakana Edits first compilation, 2017's "Crate Diggin", was an epic collection of high-grade re-edits, mash-ups and reworks packed to the rafters with tried-and-tested dancefloor treats. This belated follow-up is even more epic, with the popular label squeezing in no less than 50 tracks that variously touch on riotous disco-funk, dub disco, new wave, disco-rock, deep funk, Afro-boogie, swamp funk, Latin beats, boogie, pitched-down chuggers, boogaloo, hip-hop and everything in between. You'd expect that standard to be high - it is a "best of" collection after all - and it is. If you need an instant armoury of scintillating club cuts, look no further.

Review: As one of the most instantly recognizable imprints in the breakbeat world, we are always thrilled to see the return of Breakbeat Paradise, who touch down here with four tracks of groovy dynamite from Funkin Basstards. We kick off alongside the catchy vocal smotherings of Sofia Kamina, who lays down some smooth tones over the high energy instrumental to '2000', followed by Kurnel's electric performance on 'Soul Disco'. Next, Sofia is back with more vocal brilliance on funkadelic 'Feel The Vibe', before 'Drop The Mirrorball' deploys wah wahs and punchy drums to round us out in style.

Review: As ever, Breakbeat Paradise return with yet another top quality selection from some of the best in the business as they unveil the third edition of their 'Swing That Funk' compilation series. We kick off with they super swingy horns of 'Original Sound' from Basschimp, Enel & Pandicat, before Bright Idea & Funkinright link up on the grizzly synths of 'Roads'. Freddy High, Funkin Basstards, Mr Ours and Spank Spinatra also supply us with tasty contributions, before Swim INC lays down some big room synth leads and catchy guitar plucks on 'Travelling Salesman' to round us up in style.

Review: Greek nu-funk label Timewarp Music's annual compilation series reaches Volume 7. Fans of the label will know what to expect, then, but for everyone else it's the perfect chance to get acquainted. Indeed, you'll struggle to find a better 15-track snapshot of the contemporary funk scene this month, with tracks spanning the spectrum from Hammond jams like Streamer's 'Mamma's Funky Life' to the sunny jazz-funk of Ivan Blanusa's 'Loungin', with detours into Afro-funk (Vito Lalinga's 'African United Rhythm' and 'Fela Mania'), Latin grooves (JazzProfilactika's 'Calle De Cubo'), acid jazz (Koka Mass Jazz's 'Play The Game') and more.

Review: For their latest two-track trip into peak-time party territory, the Katakana Edits crew has recruited a couple of break-digging artists from Greece: MCurdit and former Timewarp sorts Funkin' Basstards. It's the former who kicks things off with the low-slung, head-nodding, hip-wiggling bounce of "Brooklyn Bount Sq.", where aggressive (sampled) rap vocals rise above heavy bass and chunky beats. Funkin' Basstards, meanwhile, jet to sunnier climes via a funky and chunky, slightly tooled-up mid-tempo breaks revision of a Tito Puente style mambo workout. It's really rather good, all told, with jaunty and memorable horn lines, timbales and Cuban vocals all emphasizing the track's party-hearty Latin mood.
