Review: Melodymathics brings their various artists concept to another level with a new line of 12 releases. Artists from all over the world are rounded up to bring funk and disco inspired house tracks that are sure to make an impression. With this first EP in the new series, they open the door to a new era in which 'happy, danceable music with 70's and 80's influences is the sound of the future.' We could not have said it better ourselves really. There's funky/lo-slung latin disco courtesy of Sue Avenu's "Midnight Boogie" (feat Kunde), G Markus gets all deep and sultry on us with the familiar vocal on "Oktogon" and Carmine Giuliano serves up some loopy sexy house shenanigans "Get Down To It".

Review: Good on Shir Khan. The Berliner known to his mutter as Jan Simon Spielberger does a fine job, running deep house label Exploited as well as holding down a residency at local institution Watergate plus hosting a weekly radio show on Radio Fritz for over eight years. On his latest various artists' compilation, we have some straight up, feelgood house vibes courtesy of the man with one serious neck tattoo; Spaniard Iban Montoro who teams up with Jazzman on "I Believe" also Rotterdam's Bas Roos turns in the very early Motor City Drum Ensemble/Raw Cuts sounding "Midnight People". Worthy mention also to G Markus from the Cayman Islands (supposedly!) who serves up "The Man From Planet Jazz", a smooth and sexy lo-slung groove for the late night.

Review: Roots For Bloom boss Jamie Trench has decided to mix things up a little on the latest edition of the Shag Edits series, supplementing one of his own contributions with cuts from three label debutants. His "Where The Party At" is a brilliantly ballsy, bass-heavy fusion of classic funk breaks, 45 King style samples and booming house beats, while Reese Johnson makes merry on the heavyweight disco-funk-goes-house slammer "Let's Dance". Bristol-based Alfresco Disco regular J Morrison snuggles up to the Godfather of Soul on his bumpin', subtly executed funk head-nodder "Brown Eyes", before G Markus brings proceedings to a close with the acid-laden deep house/disco fusion that is "BING!".
