Review: The Scotch Bonnet team are known for their fantastic innovation within numerous different areas of sound, headed up by the Mungos Hi Fi team. This latest combination sees the likes of Gardna & Catching Cairo join forces with the Glaswegian sound system champions for a wavy new single entitled 'Back In The Dayz'. It's an interesting blend of influences as the hardcore-infused production provides the backdrop over which Gardna & Catching Cairo are able to deliver a nostalgia inducing blend of lyrical content and old school flows. It's a pleasing one for sure!
Review: Jungle Cakes always tend to put out music that rests on the foundations of UK underground, the cross-over influences of soul, reggae, jungle and D&B. it's always a fresh sound and it always brings up connotations of Boomtown, free parties and sunny afternoons. This is a monster album curated by Aries and Kelvin 373, who have taken tracks both old and new to form a banging compilation. Bou nails it on 'Music Takes Me Higher', a rustic revisit to classic jungle sounds; Aries and Nicky Blackmarket roll things out in a tight way on 'Champion'; and Chimpo slams the brakes on 'DidDieDoThat'. We don't know the answer to that, but we do know this is fat. Big ups.
Review: Only two releases deep and Born On The Road are already leading the way in future genre-hybrids. They're calling this heady fusion of grime, breakbeat and bass '140 jungle hip-hop' - we're calling it banging. From Stivs and Kelvin's Botchit-style skippy, scrappy roller through to the more authentic dub nods of Skitz & The Sea, everything about this release is original: the super-sharp, humorous, lyrics, the rifle like rhythms, the dynamic party vibes. And if that's not enough gravitas there's a massive remix from the original grime/breaks fusilier King Yoof. Trust: this oozes sickness.
