Review: Dance Concept bossman Benny V returns to the controls with Born On Road / Jungle Cakes affiliate Gella with an absolute bundle of dancefloor dynamite sticks. All classic/foundation sounding in their own cheeky ways (but packing full contemporary punches) each one is great for just hurling into the crowd like grenades. 'Rebirth' is the calm-before-the-storm creeper, 'The Wonderful' is the mischievous Tyke-ish roughouser, 'Damn Hot' is reminiscent of the early 2000s Bristol sound but with modern day bounce while 'Outer Limits' slaps with some fantastic drums and heads down cosmic vibes. Wonderful by name... Wonderful by nature.

Review: Jungle Cakes always tend to put out music that rests on the foundations of UK underground, the cross-over influences of soul, reggae, jungle and D&B. it's always a fresh sound and it always brings up connotations of Boomtown, free parties and sunny afternoons. This is a monster album curated by Aries and Kelvin 373, who have taken tracks both old and new to form a banging compilation. Bou nails it on 'Music Takes Me Higher', a rustic revisit to classic jungle sounds; Aries and Nicky Blackmarket roll things out in a tight way on 'Champion'; and Chimpo slams the brakes on 'DidDieDoThat'. We don't know the answer to that, but we do know this is fat. Big ups.

Review: Can you smell-a the Gella? You should be able to as he's cooked up some right stinkers here. Following foul funk-ups on the likes of Born On Road, Jungle Cakes and his own Super Sharp Recordings, here he makes his debut on Benny Vee's Dance Concept with four more dirty delights... '1 2 3' is a curmudgeonly roller that growls but never barks, 'We Have Contact' is a scalp-singeing trip back to the late 90s, all jumpy and bumpy with about 20 different basses vying for your attention and 'Feel So Real' takes a touch of jazz, half a bottle of robotic funk lubricant and a vast abyss of cosmic flavour. Comes complete with a mischievous rubber ball bass twist on Benny and K Warren's 'How Ya Feelin''. Absolute stinkage.

As always, the selection digs deep across the board to include classics, absolute bangers that have been criminally forgotten and no less than 10 exclusives made strictly for this album. From the sun-kissed soul and key-tickling evangelist jam "Salvation" to the absolute rave carnage of "What's Going Down", the boys have gone in on this collection maintaining its still spotless reputation as one of the most consistent and prolific mix series available in the genre. Pay close attention to the Jukebox Jungle track, too. This needs your loving.

Review: Gella can really make music and his latest piece of work is out over on Super Sharp Recordings. This single is an energetic piece of jump-up construction that doesn't hesitate to punch you in the face and its exemplified by the A-side, a bass-filled expression of dancefloor hatred which moves in mysterious yet obvious ways. It bangs, basically, as does the B-side, with special mention going out to all the sweet hip-hop samples for their contribution to the excellent 'The Next Shit'. Top stuff

Review: As one would expect, the Fat! label never like to hold back when it comes to compilations - they like to go all-out and rightfully leave the diet option to others. We're talking bass here, and lots of it; moreover, the Breaks Vol.1 comp provides all shades of the stuff, mostly filtered through percussive lens. In this leviathan, you'll find tunes by the likes of Merka, who absolutely destroys the place with a gunshot of beats and electro-charged bass, or Boabinga and his new strains of pseudo-jungle, and even Peacemaker's funkier shade of breakbeat. That's just to give you a snapshot because, in all honesty, this is one to be enjoyed in its entirety. Go forth and download the lot!

Review: This one is a bit of a whopper. With 43 unmixed tracks to choose from and two bonus DJ mixes from curator Jay Cunning, there's plenty for fans of 140 BPM plus bass music to sink their teeth into. The tracklist reads like a who's who of the breaks, jungle and breakbeat garage scene, with stalwarts Ellis Dee, I.D, High Rankin and DJ Twista joined by a welter of lesser-known artists (601, Aries, Gella) for an all-out assault on the senses. From hardcore revivalism and early jungle roughness to bhangra-flecked beats and electro-breaks madness, Bass Selection Volume 1 has it all - if you're looking for speaker-shaking heaviness, you really can't go wrong.

Review: Terry Hooligan's fledgling Bass = Win continue their relentless multi-genre assault on the dancefloor in 2012, ushering a fine cast of talent for this heavy duty compilation Bass = Win Electro Vol 1. Perennial bass bin botherers Baobinga & ID open proceedings with a typically incendiary remix of Gella's "Twinkle", while Sir Hooligan himself makes an appearance with a great remix of Prato's "Keeps Ya Moving" which flickers between dubstep indebted electro and a classic break. Rico Tubbs mans the mid section, Lazy Rich and The Mighty Fools go toe to toe in the battle for the most outlandish remix of the Tubb man (the latter just shade it in case you were wondering). Stupid Fresh indulge in some pitch shifting madness with "Do The Dog" and Submerse ends this release with a bang on the 136bpm face screwer "Railgun".
