Review: Giorgio Gigli follows his 2019 Space Whales album with Bichord on Planet Rhythm with another set of collaborative works. Working with Paul Ritch, Gigli delivers pulsating, throbbing grooves, shot through with ominous, acid-led menace on "1", "2" and "3". Through his collaboration with Francesco Visconti aka VSK, Gigli then proceeds to turn his focus on more dubbed out aspects of his dark techno sound, which results in the building chord intensity of "Silent Age" and "Hidden Conspiracy", with the partnership culminating on the mesmerising "Memories of an Unconnect Era". The final part of this collaborative work is with Ness, and here the release takes on a deeper aspect, with the evocative "Erosion" impressing most.

Review: Here's a release for those who like deep, hypnotic techno. Decennium 1.3 is the last EP in a series that celebrates Affin's tenth anniversary, and it sees the label bring together some great talent. Giorgio Gigli's "Looking Through My Memory" is a multi-layered affair, underpinned by cavernous kicks and featuring half-heard, muffled vocals. On "Vurt", label owner Joachim Spieth opts for a relatively similar approach, conjuring up atmospheric layers against a back drop of stepping, menacing bass. Deepbass' "Search Continues" picks up the pace and offers a more club-friendly rhythm than the preceding tracks, while Periskop rounds off this fine anniversary series with a robust, dub techno groove in the shape of the nautical "Relent".

Review: Having had a long and illustrious career releasing on labels such as his own Zooloft and Prologue, on this 12" Italian producer Giorgio Gigli brings his dark sound to M_Rec Ltd with two wildly different productions. "Indifferent Sight" is built around a driving motorik bassline, while unpredictable percussive elements reverberate in the background. "Individual Unconscious" meanwhile is a totally beatless production which layers echoing drones over a warm filtered bass pulse; the mood is less aggressive than its counterpart, but no less alienating. On the B-Side, kindred spirit of dark techno Terence Fixmer remixes "Indifferent Sight", taking the original's already substantial bassline and adding more bite to it, with a texture resembling EBM; he gives the track of bit of breathing space in the middle with an ambient interlude, but this only serves to heighten the fury when the bass returns.
