Voodoo - (5:10) 59 BPM

Review: A five-tracker from Giovanni Damico here that, as tends to be his wont when he's not making straight-up house tracks, draws on a melting pot of influences - Afro, 80s boogie, Italodisco, pop and electro, to name but five - to come up with something that's truly original and unique-sounding. It might take a few listens to sink in, but stick with it because there's a definite infectiousness to the grooves contained herein. Boogie lovers should head for 'Night Time', while if you're more into all things Afro then 'More Cowbells' would be a good place to start.

Review: Given the impressive track records of both Giovanni Damico - a hard-working producer with a swathe of superb singles to his name - and boogie revivalists Star Creature, you'd expect this two-tracker to be rather tidy. It is, of course, with virtual A-side "Another DJ" delivering a near perfect skip through mid-80s boogie pastures full to bursting with heavily accented vocals, fluid bass guitar, clipped guitars and kaleidoscopic synthesizer sounds. The smoother, warmer and sunnier "Last Chance" is if anything even better, with Damico doffing a cap towards Maze and Loose Ends in spectacular fashion. Delicious!

The Sounds Of Revolution EP
The Sound Of Revolution - (5:37) 120 BPM Hot
My Music - (5:11) 117 BPM
Italians In A Line - (6:00) 122 BPM
La Samba E Il Mare - (5:47) 116 BPM
Review: Given that Giovanni Damico's last outing on Lumberjacks in Hell, "The Essential EP", was such a superb set of tracks, hopes are undoubtedly sky-high for the Italian's belated return to Marcel Vogel's imprint. We can confirm that "The Sounds of Revolution" is another stellar effort, with the title track - a killer jazz-funk-meets-disco number rich in fuzzy bass, spacey synth solos and a simple but effective lead vocal. Damico also shows his singing skills on the eyes-closed electrofunk brilliance of "My Music" and the driving, synth-sporting disco-funk hustle of "Italians In A Line". Arguably best of all, though, is "La Samba E Il Mare", another spacey, warm and electronic jazz-funk number that reminded us a little of the work of fellow Italians Nu Guinea.

The Essential EP
Essential - (7:32) 119 BPM Hot
Look At You (Sugar Bomb) - (6:21) 116 BPM
Drums & Keys - (5:41) 119 BPM
Rhythm & Drums - (5:15) 107 BPM
Review: Founder of White Rabbit Records and one of the hippest swingers in the Southern reaches of Italy, Giovanni Damico has more than proved himself in the field of boogie infused, disco flavoured house music. Following plentiful appearances on labels like Black Key, Movida, Geography and Bitter Moon, Damico returns to Lumberjacks In Hell with a serious serving of sultry grooves for discerning diggers to get all moist over. "Essential" keeps things hyped up and just a little feverish, with a distinctly funky stew of guitar chops, bugged out flute, Rhodes flares and more besides. "Look At You (Sugar Bomb)" is a deeper affair revolving around a particular looped up lick, and then "Drums & Keys" shifts the focus out into accomplished broken beat territory that confirms Damico's skill and adaptability across a range of styles.

Gentlemen Cuts Vol 3
Kian T - "Disco Sauvage" - (7:01) 120 BPM
Replika - "Hollowgram" - (6:19) 117 BPM Hot
Giovanni Damico - "Kitkat" - (5:00) 110 BPM
Kolja Gerstenberg - "Get Your Ass Up" - (6:03) 111 BPM
Review: Quintessentials has assembled a fine cast of rising talents for the third volume in their ongoing Gentlemen Cuts series. Sometime Secret Reels and Toy Tonics producer Kian T kicks things off with the woozy, Folamour style number "Disco Savage", which brilliantly flits between deep and dusty grooves and mazy, disco-fired synth solos. Replika serves up more jazz-funk influenced deep house positivity in the shape of the synth-bass-propelled roller "Hollowgram", before Giovanni Damico does a brilliant job editing bustling dream breaks on the warm and sensual "KitKat". Finally, Kolja Grestenberg doffs a cap towards Andres and Local Talk on the swinging, soul-powered bump of brilliant closer "Get Your Ass Up". Stellar stuff, all told.

All Humans After All
Tanzania - (6:35) 122 BPM Hot
I Need Me - (7:15) 122 BPM
Are You Somebody - (6:19) 117 BPM
Humans After All - (6:51) 122 BPM
Review: Fresh from an acclaimed outing on FACES, Giovanni Damico pops up on Marcel Vogel's inspired Lumberjacks In Hell label. The Italian producer is naturally in fine form here, with "Tanzania" - a breezy, house-friendly rework of what sounds like a Tanzanian boogie cut - being one of the most addictive and life-affirming edits we've heard this month. You'll find more wiggling synthesizer lines on the deliciously dreamy and evocative deep house shuffler "I Need Me", while "Are You Somebody" is a successful exercise in subtly beefing up a low-slung disco-funk number. As if that wasn't enough to set the juices flowing, he completes a brilliant E.P with the jazz-fuelled deep house smokiness of "Humans After All".

La Dame Et Le Conga
La Dame Et Le Conga - (6:39) 121 BPM Hot
Tell You What I Do - (5:48) 122 BPM
La Dame Et Le Conga (Rick Wade Magnificent Deep mix) - (6:46) 120 BPM
What U Feel Like - (5:45) 113 BPM
Review: Hot on the heels of that rather wondrous Le Sampler Des Copains doublepack, Pablo Valentino's Faces label returns proffering a debut for long serving Italian DJ and producer Giovanni Damico. The White Rabbit Recordings boss has quite the impressive discography, with 12" shaped emissions on Bitter Moon, Lumberjacks in Hell, Seven Limited and Black Key Records. His La Dame Et Le Conga EP fits snugly into the Faces aesthetic and yes it does feature some conga on the title cut. An apparent nod to Damico's latin and jazz past, "La Dame Et Le Conga" is quite exquisite in both its original form and the accompanying Magnificent Deep remix from Rick Wade. Either side of those Damico brings some soul heavy and sample heavy house vibes with closer "What U Feel Like" a real B-side gem.

Remixes Vol 2
Giovanni Damico - "Love Me" (Moodtrap remix) - (7:12) 120 BPM
Milton Jackson - "5 Cities" (Andy Ash remix) - (6:12) 123 BPM Hot
Milton Jackson - "5 Cities" (Michael McLardy remix) - (7:43) 121 BPM
Milton Jackson - "5 Cities" (Tom Sevinski remix) - (7:12) 118 BPM
Review: There's much to admire on this second remix EP from rising label Black Key, not least Moodtrap's delightfully rubbery, synth-laden deep house tweak of Giovanni Damico's "Love Me". It's fluid and tactile - all warm chords and bluesy vocal samples - but with enough rhythmic pulse to keep a dancefloor interested throughout. The rest of the EP features reworks of Milton Jackson's "5 Cities". The reliable Andy Ash delivers the best version, layering deep garage chords and liquid melodies on top of booming drums and a sub-bothering bassline. Tom Sevinski's super-deep tweak is also worth a listen.
