Review: It doesn't get more legendary than DJ SS' Formation Records, and the man himself has organised a fat, 56-track compilation that will take you back to jungle. This is part 1 of 3 parts, and at 20 tunes it's nothing to be sniffed at, featuring music from the likes of Kenny Ken, Dave Shichman, Sikki and Fabric8. The first of those has a track called 'Gimme Dat Roller' which is simply crazy, with a clean, penetrating percussion that flips and nods its head with flair; the bassline comes next, and it's a true creeper. 'Jah' by Fabric8 has a wicked, lounging reggae introduction that sets the stage for a jagged, spiking bassline that zips through the arrangement in a seriously catchy way. Seminal stuff.

Review: This one is a bit of a whopper. With 43 unmixed tracks to choose from and two bonus DJ mixes from curator Jay Cunning, there's plenty for fans of 140 BPM plus bass music to sink their teeth into. The tracklist reads like a who's who of the breaks, jungle and breakbeat garage scene, with stalwarts Ellis Dee, I.D, High Rankin and DJ Twista joined by a welter of lesser-known artists (601, Aries, Gella) for an all-out assault on the senses. From hardcore revivalism and early jungle roughness to bhangra-flecked beats and electro-breaks madness, Bass Selection Volume 1 has it all - if you're looking for speaker-shaking heaviness, you really can't go wrong.

Review: Run Tingz are a Bristol based imprint that seek to project the Bristolian sound all across the U.K. That sound is a hypnotic blend of ragga influences, jungle vibes and rolling, bassy tones of the type that blow up Bristol dancefloors on an almost daily basis. For their Best of 2018 album they've rolled out the big guns for a fat compilation featuring the likes of Bladerunner, Kursiva, Dossa and Brian Brainstorm so you know it's going to be good. 'Sound Killer' by Bladerunner is typical of this; funky, upbeat ragga sampling and sick vocals from Fuchaman with an underpinning of junglist vibes and pulsing basslines. The rest of the album is just as good - go cop it.

Review: What a year it's been for Gold Dubs. Not content with releasing his debut album 'Champagne & Asparagus' earlier this year on Born On Road, or releasing on the likes of Kingston Express, Bun Dem Out and Jungle Cakes, he now returns to Serial Killaz with another epic dispatch to shut down 2020. Going straight in on the slammers, 'Distress Call' is a wild brock-out while Cheshire Cat prowls in the picture with the outrageously heavy battle song 'Rise Up'. Elsewhere 'Now' is a stinker of intoxicating proportions while the title track 'The Jungle Is Changing' ends the EP on the naughtiest number of the collection. Pure chaos incarnate, laced with a range of scorching basslines, this one is going to sound so good from a rig the minute we can rave again. Go Gold or go home.

Review: Hazardous Muzik always tend to put out music that rests on the foundations of UK underground, the cross-over influences of soul, reggae, jungle and D&B. it's always a fresh sound and it always brings up connotations of Boomtown, free parties and sunny afternoons. The Papa G remix of 'Disco Dub' is the best of the five, with a bright and cheerful jungle introduction that's flipped into a wobbling, subby roller with oodles of energy and momentum. The Sound Shifter 2019 remix of X Nation's 'Wheel & Wine' stays the path with yet more vibrant jungle and it's packed full of punchiness and sharp edges - banger. All in all, Hazardous Muzik are celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary in style, so a big congratulations for hitting that milestone.

Review: Fresh off the presses of Jungle Cakes Records comes the "Survival" EP, a four-track journey guided by the skilled hand of Gold Dubs. No stranger to production, Gold Dubs leverages his years of experience and diverse influences - from bassline to DnB - to craft a dynamic and electrifying listen. The EP kicks off with the aptly titled "Survival," a collaboration with Kalum featuring the distinctive lyricism of Rider Shafique. This track hits hard, both sonically and thematically, with pulsating basslines, warped sub frequencies, and expertly layered FX. Next up is "Infinity" a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a distinctly 90s vibe. Think sharp sub bass, heavy percussion, and vocal samples and synths that evoke a bygone era. Review: Run Tingz spark up the dance with a little Lionfire as longstanding junglist Gold Dubs joins the party. Firstly, he links up with Da Fuchaman once again for a sing-along pro-sticky, anti-inequality skank-out "My Erb". Secondly, he rips a huge hole on your soul with a break-shattering, rave-referencing shock-out "Mash Up". Thirdly, he saddles up with Carasel for a spooked out ride through the darkest corners of the techy roller universe. Fourthly, he shuts the shop with what appears to be a light-footed jazzy stepper before dropping into a vicious waspy bass aesthetic. Fifthly, don't sleep on this!

Review: Get down and dirty to King Yoof vs DJ Cold as the duo go in hard in the "Slayer Soundclash" with the motto already embedded into the title of the EP Death b4 Dishonour, you know what you're getting with this one. Cue shuddering bass, reggae vox, tumultuous drops and jungle infused synths a-plenty. "Call The Undertaker" blends raga jungle flavours with contemporary jump up, while "Respect" is more of a vocal-driven roller and title track "Every Night Is A Soundclash" is a bass heavy ball buster with lilting lyrics and smashing drums. "Tik A Tok" blends a well-known hook with rolling breaks and jungle shimmying attitude. Lovely stuff.

Review: Jay Cunning's Sub Slayers fire up all systems with this muscular four pack of concentrated breakbeat bizzle from Birmingham beatsmith Gold. "The Rhythm" leads, and with it comes a classic vocal snippet that will leave your dancefloor scratching their heads waiting for the rest (like all the best understated sample teases, it never comes). Further on we find a superb rub of Aries' dubwise "Herbsmoke", hard nosed booty breaks ("Knowledge Is Power") and a skanking grand finale in form of "My Selector", a future jungle style!

Review: Time to pay homage to some of the greatest junglists in the biz for a lovely little detour into each of their mindsets. "Fall In Love" itself is a beauty of a track - with Eva Lazarus referencing Althia and Donna and the horns blowing pure heat there's a true dancehall vibe sizzling. First up to give it the remix treatment are Dope Ammo and Marvellous Cain who add their fun and fire twist with a hard edged drop switched into that winding bassline to send crowds wild. Mr Benn picks up the tune for its final remix and adds his own reggae vibes, swapping those dark dancefloor sounds for sunshine and tropical funky bass. Versatility and vibes - what more do you want?

Review: Ahead of their epic 22-track compilation, foundation revivalists Deep In The Jungle tease us with two of the many album highlights. Kumarachi leads with the vocal-heavy "Sun Bomber". Led by an unchecked toaster (who sounds a lot like Blackout J.A) it's a heady throwback to jungle's ragga phase during the mid 90s but delivered with modern muscle. Kartoon follows with a powerful slab of jungle soul; the ideal balance of sugar sweet vocals and neck snapping drum edits, if you can find a better contemporary twist on classic rave we'd love to hear it.

Review: Smashing straight into frenetic breaks, Birmingham's own answer to the UK junglist scene Gold Dubs brings the noise once more with two nods to classic jungle sounds. Minimal outside interference in "Nocturnal Confusion" lets techy drums and a big, wobbly bass lead the dance. On "The Game" a big stepper makes an appearance, ditching jungle for a more malevolent sound. Picking dark samples and a huge bassline, this is jump-up at its darkest.
