Review: Bristol-based Goldboy is one of Yam Who's most trusted lieutenants. As well as hosting the Midnight Riot West parties in his home city, the DJ/producer has also released countless cuts on Yam Who's various imprints. This, though, seems to be his first appearance on Black Riot. His "Balearic Sunrise Mix" of "Clasmic's House" delivers what it promises, wrapping a typically tactile nu-disco/deep house groove in dream house chords, loved-up synthesizer melodies and - of course - loon bird samples. De Fantiske To recast the track as a bustling chunk of riff-propelled deep house, before Alan Dixon whips out his Roland TB-303 and gives the cut a more jacking, Larry Heard style vibe.

Review: Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint has packed in a lot of releases over the past 12 months, as this expansive roundup of the label's second year in business proves. Featuring 27 tracks and a bonus mix by the South Coast dwelling label boss, there's naturally plenty to admire. Highlights include, but are not limited to, the rolling, head-nodding grooves of Eyeco M's "Keeping It To Myself", the killer proto-house throb of "Tonight" by Bad Barbie vs Evil Smarty, the sexy, string-drenched disco loveliness of P-Sol's "Can't You See", LTJ's trumpet-boasting funk bumper "Fat Thing", and the hard-wired, bass-heavy rework of Julia & Company's "Breakin' Down (Sugar Samba)" by Melon Bomb. It is, though, all pretty darn hot.

Review: It's hard to properly define a category for Goldboy's music, but what we can say is that he makes pretty solid house music with a mystical, delicate edge that sits very nicely alongside the whole nu disco spectrum. Being a Bristolian, he's all about the synths and the wavey pads, elements at the core of "Highway 606", both in its original format, and in the more stripped down version by Ourra. Again, "Cungajam" is a delightful journey through space and time thanks to its hypnotic sequence of melodies, and "We Are Serious" changes the pace by going for a more head-down, funked-out kinda vibe.

Review: It may be detox January for some, but for Yam Who, it's champagne o'clock as he sees his label series reach its tenth volume. There's a mind boggling 27 tracks featured here, a veritable smorgasbord of deliciously disco tuneage. Highlights include the chaotic hiNRG of Seamus Haji's "ReLoved", the tough, but soulful, jacker "Many Lovers" by Judge Funk and the smooth, synth-boogie of "Takes Me Out" by G Prajekts.

Review: Having previously released on sister label Midnight Riot, Bristol-based nu-disco sort Goldboy is given a chance to play his wares on ISM. He duly delivers a trio of original productions, from the spacey chords, woozy grooves and rich bass of "Stomach Funk", to the bold, Rhodes-laden deep house disco throb of "Demolish Disco", via the breezy, late night goodness of "Thru The Nite". Each track is accompanied by a suitably solid remix, with Ex Friendy's dense, post-punk influenced dub disco remake of "Demolish Disco" standing head and shoulders above the rest. That said, BG Baarregaard's deliciously Balearic revision of "Stomach Funk" is pretty darn tasty.
