Review: Dirtybird showcase their deeper side on a new 14-track complation featuring some of the label's best loved artists (Claude VonStroke, Julio Bashmore, Sascho Robotti, Pezzner) alongside a host of more up-and-coming names. There's quite a variety of sounds on offer here, with cuts ranging from the dreamy, bassy minimalism of opener "Aundy" to the pop leanings of Scavazza's "Shake Your Hearts". The best bits, though, come largely from the deepest end of the spectrum: Tom Flynn's Amp Fiddler collab "The Future" is a late-night, jazzy delight while Dernis and Robot Love bring us a couple of proper deep house bullets.

Review: It's that time again where Dixon, Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann serve up another edition of their Secret Weapons series which always lives up to its name; just they aren't that secret anymore thankfully! As always the Innervisions camp present a real mix up of names from across the board of house and techno and there's some pleasant surprises once again. Starting off with Belgian tech house heroes Raw District with the brooding and suspense filled "From The Inside" which is the kind of track you could really imagine Dixon playing to a festival crowd. Berlin legend Oliver Deutschmann (Falkplatz/Vidab) with the dreamy and hypnotic "Control" was great too. Elsewhere there's Southern German merchant of dark journey tracks Tim Engelhardt representing the new garde (alongside Bog) with "No More Words" featuring some wonky synth leads and minimal techno legend Marc Houle with the cheeky retro EBM jack of "Tomboyz". Honourable mention to the Valence/Delft affiliated GoldFfinch with the tough reductionist techno jam "The Hidden"

Review: For the past few years, Belgian act Goldffinch has been one of the hottest names in house and techno, so it was no surprise that the ever-astute Get Physical has signed them up for an EP. Indeed, "Algae" sounds like an evolved version of the German label's own sound. The groove is more pulsing but it underpins similarly trance-inspired melodies, while the pair weave in intricate details like classical strings and ghostly hooks. The flip side track, "Dilgence", is more reduced and the pair fuse its rolling drums with surging bleep patterns to make for a distinctive but effective after hours club track.

Review: Having previously released for Numbers, Saigon Recordings and 877, Belgian combo Goldffinch are past masters at joining the dots between a myriad of bass-heavy dancefloor styles. Here, they pop up on Food Music with a trio of heavily compressed cuts seemingly inspired by the murky middle ground between revivalist garage (US and UK) and woozy European tech-house. Opener "Black Pyramid" is the most striking of the three tracks, with cut-up vocal samples and Belgian rave style stabs riding a sub-bothering bassline. "Erosion" is more fluid, with dreamy vocal hits swirling round dewy-eyed melodies and skippy US garage grooves. Finally, "Feather" is deeper, providing a modern tech-house take on classic US garage.
