Review: Long live team Alpha Pup, an excellently organised project that have moved onto the third edition of their epic '20/20' compilation series, exploring the most lethal reaches of underground bass music. Featuring hard hitting originals from the likes of Ivy Lab, Dismantle, Rocks FOE, Bakey and more, it's clear that the team have gone all out on this collection, with sounds ranging as wide as the hardcore inspired mysticism of 'Naananaana' from Rohaan, to the industrial techno-flavours of Ila Brugal's 'Cynical'. The whole project packs a punch, but our highlights would have to include both the intense metallic madness of Deft's 'OKURTHEEXPERT', alongside Manni Dee's monstrous 'Wet Slide' creation. Top work all around!

Review: Garneau & Sharkki's label delivers its latest split release. Drawing on diverse influences and sounds, it starts in evocative mode with the rolling breaks and hardcore era vocal samples of Apollo's "Zaptric". Sharkki's "Lust In Translation" also pays tribute to older sources, as the label owner fuses electronic riffs and synth pop vocals. On a more contemporary tip is Liquid Love Angel's "Elevate Me", which features acid lines and robust breaks providing the basis for soulful vocals. CA$TLE's "Back" is also grounded in modern sensibilities as a call and response vocal unfolds over steely drums. Irrespective of the influences at play, each track shares the common trait of being utterly distinctive.

Review: Rave material with hardcore DNA from Vancouver's Greazus, on their brand new Phantasia EP for Leipzig, Germany's Defrostatica. This is the shared vision of two of the city's most renowned and prolific bass music ambassadors - HxdB & Patrik Cure. Get on your smiley face to the loved-up, back to '93 energy of "Phantasia", followed by "Wtf" that goes for more of a Detroit electro vibe with its strong Underground Resistance influence, and ending some rolling drama on the euphoric "Raverz" and its proto jungle vibe.

Review: The Defrostatica team have come together to unleash a fabulous display of modern juke-music here as they deliver 21 tracks of pure energy, showcasing the full spectrum of footwork across nearly 100 minutes of original sonic wizardry. From the euphoric, almost arpeggiated melodies of Jont1st's 'Pantone Suplex' and disruptive, industrial-like percussion of DJ YumYum's 'Antigene' to the more junglist inspired drum skips of Arcane's war-like 'Won't Deny' original, this project covers an insane amount of ground. There are a couple of clear highlights for us, the first of which has to be the ethereal vocal masterpiece that is Kiat's 'Transcribe', alongside the acidic drips of Sam Binga's 'Carbob' remix, originally coming from HomeSick. What a collection this is.

Review: Halftime and juke master GREAZUS is back once more, this time with a four-tracker on Deviant Audio. The Duo are masters at crafting together the pace of halftime with the frantic vibe of jungle and juke, and they have certainly nailed it here. The title track is almost certainly the highlight, a suspense-filled intro and climbing synth knocks giving way to a rhythmic rush of jungle snaps and flowing reece curves. There's so much energy here for a slower-than-170 track, proving once more that GREAZUS does this as well or better than anyone. 'Spooky Mulder' is a naughty halftime cut, as is 'We Don't Give A Damn' featuring them menacing vocals of Magugu. All three then get the remix treatment in spectacular fashion - what an EP.
