Review: Launching a label isn't as straightforward as it might seem, but SHDW & Obscure Shape have opened the account on Mutual Rytm in style with this great compilation. Featuring tracks from some of techno's most talented artists, Federation moves from the powerful deep techno of Invexis' "Elektronenwind" to Vil & Cravo's dense, aptly named "Apolonia Loop" before sliding into the peak time, banging rhythm of Alarico's "I'm Into You". Lars Huismann ventures deeper again with the cavernous chords and brooding bass of "Hyper Dub", while Grindvik pushes the release in a peak time direction again with the noisy, bleep-heavy banger that is "Your Dry Lips".

Review: Par Grindvik and Juan Pablo Pfirter have enjoyed a long artistic relationship, with the MindTrip boss first releasing on Grindvik's Stockholm LTD over 12 years ago. Following on from their most recent collaboration, last year's El Fortin, they open their 2021 account with this powerful club EP. "Temon" resounds to surging, powerful chords, and captures the sense of excitement that will be felt when clubs eventually re-open. The title track meanwhile, is more linear and tracky, designed for the peak time thanks to its firing, sheet metal percussion. "Life" is also tailor made for maximum impact, thanks to its dense kicks, throbbing bass and razor-sharp hi hats. "Eye Glare" rounds off this fine collaboration, with thunderous drums providing the backdrop for a snaking, menacing bass.

Review: 2021 is shaping up to be a busy year for Par Grindvik; he has just released a collaboration with Pfirter and now he delivers this co-authored work with Sylvie Maziarz. Featuring four tracks, Before We Run is a peak-time affair: "Bullet Tower" features a hornet's nest of acid bleeps and wiry percussion unfolding over industrial strength kicks, while "Before We Run" is in a similar vein, with the pair dropping upfront kicks and infectious vocal snippet samples. On "Utopia", they go for a slightly less intense approach as tough tribal drums and snappy percussion provide the backdrop for chopped up vocals. Rounding off this fine club release is the deeper but driving "Circles", which centres on a grungy bass underpinning atmospheric swooshes.
