Review: 10 years on from its initial release, Groove Armada's contribution to the Anotherlatenight series gets a new lease of life. For those searching for deep, downtempo and vaguely Balearic fare, it's well worth a look. While Groove Armada's mix is enjoyable enough, it's the unmixed tracks that are most worthy of attention. Amongst the familiar classics (Kleer's boogie classic "Tonight", Mr Fingers' "Can You Feel It" and Metro Area's "Muira"), you'll find hot curiosities from the likes of Shuggie Otis (the decidedly acid-fried "Strawberry Letter 23"), Loose Ends ("Feel The Vibe"), Good Together (forgotten super-deep house jam "Work It Out") and Don Ray (the heady disco grooves of "Standing In The Rain").

Review: Clash Of The Titans here, with Clapham house heroes Groove Armada having their back catalogue given a good seeing to by Manchester's tape-wielding disco maniac, Greg Wilson. It's quality from the get go, starting with "The Girls Say" now reworked into an awesome early 80s synth funk workout that would make Rick James proud. "DIY Disco" is celebratory retro electro-disco at it's finest, while "Love Sweet Sound" is a happy-sad cowbell disco journey of immense proportions. Finally we end proceedings on old skool electro tip with 'Save Our Souls" sounding like a vocodered alien invasion.

Review: Having previously given us "Black Light" and "White Light", veteran festival-bothering behemoths Groove Armada switch bulbs once again. This time, they've opted for a nice Red Light, an obvious forewarning of the sleazy, old skool influenced house grooves contained within this five-track offering. Be sure to check the hoover bass madness of "Oscillator Love" (akin to a long-lost R&S banger), the mid-90s NYC tribal grooves of "Torrentes" (very Tenaglia) or the near-anthemic opener "The Pleasure Victim" (like a faster version of GA spin-off Morten Sorensen) - all tick exactly the right late night boxes.

Review: George Kelly's Athens-based Chopshop celebrate 15 years in the game with this best-of compilation that takes in cuts from the likes of Groove Armada (via Greg Wilson), Situation, Andy Bach, Bodie Lee, HP Vince and more, many of which - as is entirely in keeping with the label's name, of course - draw heavily on source material from the past. Dave Leatherman & Bruce Nolan kick us off with 'Sunny Side Up', which reworks Osibisa's 'Sunshine Day', and from there on out it's basically a non-stop disco/disco-house riot, with Bodie Lee paying tribute to Inner City on 'Let Me Take You Dancer', Wild Cherry chopped and looped to glorious effect by Delly on 'Movin' To The Groovin' and Alejandro Maria stealing the day with 'A Lot To Live For', which should really be called 'Stabs To Die For'.

Review: This is not the first compilation to drop whose sole aim is to raise funds for NHS Chartities Together - R&S Records and Bass Agenda both delivered similarly epic sets - but "Care4Life" may well be the strongest and most diverse. As you'd expect, each one of the 45 tracks is previously unreleased, and the cast list reads like a who's who of dance music culture. Notable highlights include an ultra-deep, saucer-eyed number from Daniel Avery, an unheard rework of the Chemical Brothers' "Catch Me I'm Falling", a superb revision of Harvey's Locussolus project by Kiwi, Matthew Herbert in jazzy broken beat mode, a rare solo outing from Optimo's JD Twitch, a rip-roaring rave workout from Jas Shaw, and thumping peak-time bangers from Dusky, Eats Everything and Patrick Topping.

Review: With the series approaching its 30th volume, you do kind of know what you're getting from a 'Cafe del Mar' comp - what's easy to forget is quite how delightful and varied a concoction such a known quantity can be. Now here comes Vol 28 to remind us, as it flits back and forth effortlessly between ultra-deep prog ('Love On A Real Train'), laidback piano house ('Nabi'), stripped-down lovers rock (Yvonne Archer's take on 'Ain't Nobody'), shufflin' broken beat/soul ('From Little Seeds We Grow'), hefty dub (see cuts from Feiertrag and Ghetto Priest), the Pink Floyd-isms of Common Saints' 'Starchild' and more besides. Deeply chilled - and deeply satisfying.

Review: Since launching in 2012, Jaymo and Andy George's Moda Black label - an offshoot of their already successful Moda label - has steadily risen to become one of the most well-regarded house labels around. The imprint's style - a tactile, atmospheric blend of tech-house, deep house, bass and woozy, funk-fuelled big room grooves - seems to have a knack of capturing the zeitgeist. Here, the two label owners deliver the third instalment in their annual mix series, showcasing tracks released by the imprint in the last 12 months. Smooth, accessible and entertaining, with plenty of standout cuts (see the warehouse acid of Sidney Charles' "Wax Digger '88" and Hauswerks & Saul Summers' sweaty "Just Want U"), Moda Black Volume III is a fitting celebration of a label whose stock continues to rise.

Review: Edge of The Horizon, Groove Armada's first album in nearly a decade, won plenty of plaudits on its release in 2020. Since then, they've offered up a swathe of remixes of key tracks, and here drop another bumper selection of revisions. Ashley Beedle leads the way with vocal and dub mixes of 'We're Free', delivering lusciously hot, humid, string-drenched takes full to bursting with nods towards Charles Stepney, laidback disco-soul and morning-fresh pastoral soul. Fred Everything then takes over and delivers four revisions (two vocal rubs and two dubs) of James Bright hook-up 'Talk Talk'. His 'Lazy Vox' and 'Lazy Dub' versions add dreamy chords and raw acid house weight to a mid-80s, NYC style proto-house groove, while his 'Sunrise' versions plump for bouncier drums, snappier snares and dreamier electronics.

First up is the Medlar remix of Wolf Music fame who serves up a soulful hands in the air house remix which works well. Next up Spanish progressive house auteur Henry Saiz steps up to deliver a spooky and atmospheric rendition, but still utilises Joel Culpepper's vocals quite well. Review: Nine months after the original version signalled Groove Armada's rush towards colourful, late-'80s proto-house-meets-deep house territory, 'Get On The Dancefloor' has been given a new set of remixes by two producers sympathetic to the original's deliciously retro-futurist sound. Psychemagik steps up first, surprisingly abandoning the feel-good warmth of Groove Armada's original version in favour of the kind of druggy, percussive, analogue-rich hedonism that makes most sense when you're dancing in the dark - all Tenaglia-style synth riffs, Sweet Exorcist clonks and bubbly acid bass. Crazy P man Jim Baron AKA Ron Basejam takes the opposite approach, layering decidedly Balearic acoustic and electric guitars, impassioned vocal snippets and sweeping synth strings atop a huggable nu-disco-meets-deep house groove.

Review: Riva Starr's Snatch! celebrate 10 years in the game in 2020, and this collection rounds up the best of their output over the latter half of that first decade. Tuff, chuggy tech-house is, unsurprisingly, the dominant sound here, but it's by no means all that's on offer - Rogue D flirts with 80s boogie on 'Take It Easy', for instance, while Soul Speech loops up Heatwave's 'Boogie Nights' on 'Soul Speech'. With tracks from the heavy-hitting likes of Max Chapman, Darius Syrossian, Steve Bug, Groove Armada, Wade and Denis Cruz, and cheeky reworks of classics like 'My Beat' and 'Pride (A Deeper Love)', there's useful ammunition here for house jocks of many different micro-persuasions.

Review: DJ/producer Josh Butler has previously tempted a swathe of old school house heroes to join the Origins Rcrds [sic] family, including Kerri Chandler and Rhythm Masters. Here he continues the trend, persuading Groove Armada boys Andy Cato and Tom Findlay to serve up their first new single in almost two years. Title track "House Musique" is a deliciously muscular, bass-heavy affair, with the long-serving duo peppering a stomping groove with nagging stabs and all manner of druggy vocal samples, before unleashing classic riffs and head-in-the clouds chords. "JB & The Drive" is similarly chunky and low-slung, with the epic breakdown, sleazy vocal sample and muscular vibe recalling the basement-bothering thump of Junior Vasquez's Sound Factory era work.
