Review: Groove Mind's ragga-glitch signature is getting stronger with every release. Swaggering up to BPR with four party-fused bangers, it's yet another level of indelibility. "Inner Fire" busses up a Ragga Twins sample over a cavalcade of bass textures, "Bring The Funk Back" is so sleazy it could make Troutman blush while "Music Is The Answer" fuses some very well-known samples into a track that celebrates everything that's brought us here today. Looking for a little more pep? Jump straight onto the party D&B cut "The Dreamers Of The Dreams" and get skanking!
Review: Welcome to the sunkissed and free world of Swing Set Sounds, a label committed to sunshine melodies and grooves. Having cleverly built interest in this, their first artist compilation, by revealing a track at a time, the album is set to put the label (and the artists!) firmly on the map. Highlights include the slow and low organic hip-hop grooves of "Imagine This" by Shimi Sonic, the big drummed funky breaks of "Watch The Man" by D-Funk and the sparse Latin grooves of "La Majeur" by The Fritz. Once you visit this world, you won't want to leave.
Review: Milan might not be the first destination you'd think of heading to get your ragga fix, but you'd be wrong, as this fashion capital is also home to High Scream Records. Here they drop "In The Jungle", the latest 'ghetto funk banger' straight from the consciousness of Groove Mind to your set of decks. Expect some tough beats, digit bleeps and hard-hitting MCing. His pal Tack also joins the session for a party-up rejig, for of meltdown bass and jumpup vibes.
Review: Dealing strictly in extended collections, Funk Fusion continues its extensive work into 2015 with a 22-track compendium of killer edits, bootlegs and reversions. With an emphasis on fine-tuned, low-swung party jams; highlights include the subtle acid treatment of En Vogue ("Get It"), silky, synth-slapping disco boogie ("Mistery Island"), badass blue grass ("Bluesy Bounce"), Chic-style Public Enemy subversion ("Funky Enemy Number One") and smoke-stacked skank science ("Method Man"). Fusion by name, funky by nature: no party should be without this collection.
