Review: Sealed with an X: Flexout Audio continue to celebrate 10 years of deep underground dynamics with label founder Bassi's curated X collection. Featuring cuts from all previous X instalments, plus the extras that all landed in the last few weeks, the 27-track strong set is a great snapshot of where both the label and underground drum & bass is at right now. If you're into that deep dark rumbling minimal futurist vibe then every track is a highlight but essentials include Visages immense 'Polarity Code', Sili's precision springer 'Gallop', the cosmic twisted synths of Wingz's 'Broken Path' and Wreckless's tense and sobering 'Don't Want To Forget How Your Voice Sounds'. X marks the spot.

Review: Following up a great release by Manchester's Data 3, Flexout Audio returns this week with the X4 compilation. Arkaik gets seriously subterranean on the neurofunk of "Boxed In", Creatures takes you directly to the darkside on their techstep jam "Audio Poetry" and GROUND go out all guns blazing on the stern steppa "Blueprints". Flexout Audio is an independent, underground drum and bass record label established in 2011 by Tom Bassi who still runs things to this day.

Review: Overview are without a doubt one of the biggest success stories of recent years and 2020 has proved to be their biggest yet, with a slew of fantastic releases across their roster of artists. Pretty much that entire crew is represented here and the tracks cover their 2 year history, from early tunes like breakout hit 'Around Me' to brand spanking new cuts like 'Framed' by Klinical and Waeys. Waeys has been an important part of the Overview story and his tune 'Who You Are' with Hadley was one of the first steps in that journey, a ridiculously dirty techy roller with an infectious bounce and a progression that will certainly get your gurn on. A spectacular album.

Review: Ground follows last year's Logos EP and his critically acclaimed Sunizm album on ESP Institute with this fine, frazzled release. "Wakusei a" is set to a mid-tempo rhythm and teems with abstract percussion, spooky vocal samples and bursts of droning feedback and noise. Adding to the sense of intrigue, a mysterious pianist plays away in the background. Meanwhile, "Wakusei y" features a droning bass that supports a cacophony of found-sound samples. It's only on "Hayabusa" that Ground turns his attention towards the dance floor, but as is his wont, the groove is scuffled and led by dense layers of percussion, a heady climax to another individualistic release.

Review: You certainly can't accuse Japanese chill-out producer and found sound enthusiast Ground of sticking too rigidly to a well-defined blueprint - the three tracks presented here don't sound anything like each other! In its Original form, 'Follow Me' is a world music-leaning Balearic number, with a hefty bassline, mantra-like female vocal, aquatic sounds, heavyweight hand percussion and an overall hypnotic feel. The Jay Glass Dubs Mix then takes the track into seriously out-there experimental territory, before the EP's completed by 'Ozone House', a percussion- and vibes-led affair with a pronounced Far Eastern feel. If you dig Gilles P or Bonobo, you'll probably dig Ground, too.

Review: Invisible has been one of Noisia's best labels for quite a while now and whilst it's sad to see this as the last release, the sadness is ameliorated somewhat by how damn good this compilation is, featuring some of the best artists and tracks to have graced the label over the past couple of years. MRSA's "Push me Down the Stairs' has been a favourite ever since it saw a release on Solids_2 last year, in one of the most creative displays of funky, glitched up techy D&B in a long time. Ground's 'Swindle's is also unstoppably good and endlessly creative, with spacious, atmospheric attempts at dancefloor grit. With other legends like Fre4knc and Hybris on here, this isn't one to miss.

Review: Osaka's GROUND is no newcomer to the world of experimental electronics, with the artist's last official EP having come out all the way back in 1995 as a self-releases 7" on the forever-defunct 595-76-8239 Music. Sunizsm is his debut LP, with a few of these tunes already out in the last few months on separate EPs, each one of them backed by a series of killer remixes, of course. The LP as a whole, however, is a startling beauty, dipping and diving from dance music to the abstract, rich in Ground's Japanese aesthetics. "Logos", one of the tracks released already, is a tripping bundle of percussion and Eastern vocal chops and, among our other favourites on here, there's also the off-kilter chimes of "Hanasai", the moody bass tones of "Feel It", and the hypnotic journey that is "Sunizsm" itself. House-not-house for the DJ-not-DJs.
