Review: She's best-known as the voice of house classics like Sheer Bronze's 'Walkin' On', Goodfellas' 'Soul Heaven' and ATFC's 'Bad Habit', but UK vocalist Lisa Millett's first love was always jazz and for over 25 years now she's had a parallel career fronting Grupo X, a London-based Latin jazz collective who were once described as "Britain's answer to Nu Yorican Soul". To date, they've released four studio albums, a remix collection and a best-of compilation - a live album was an obvious next step, then, and here it is, featuring what they aptly describe as "stripped-back, rootsy" versions of eight cuts culled from across all four previous long-players. If smoky, soulful jazz with hints of both gospel and blues is your bag, this is a must.
