Best Of Delsin Records 2019

His Master's Voice - "Eve" - (7:48) 93 BPM
Conforce - "IO" - (7:22) 93 BPM
Review: Dutch powerhouse Delsin bunkers down for another year with a choice selection of tracks taken from the label's marque artists, regulars and newcomers. The compilation showcases the label's tastemaking approach to embracing a somewhat unidentified strands of dub electro, a new and developing sound harnessed it seems by Delsin this year. Claro Intelcto slathers his track "Two Thousand" with more of the obscene basslines we love the British artist for (with a lighter alternative to be found on "Messages") while Conforce plays with pixelation and subtle subsonic electro pulses in "OI". Gunnar Haslam rivals Porter-Ricks-deepness in his track "Cacique De Poyais" while label boss Peel Seamus warms things up with Detroit-styled keys and synths to offset the deeper, melodic and shimmering dub of new talent His Master's Voice.

Kalaatsakia
Kalapuyan - (4:08) 99 BPM
Kpalaga - (6:45) 97 BPM
Review: Kalaatsakia is Haslam's fourth album and sees the US producer flit between underground techno and more experimental sounds. This approach is audible from the get-go with the angular, jacking "Broadcast" followed by the weird, dissected tones and blips of "Kalapuyan" and the atmospheric white noise of "Nxbound". Despite moving between these diverse bases, there is also some middle ground and the aptly named "Transdisciplinary" and the more brooding "Kjolle" are hypnotic electro workouts. In the main though, this is a work of extremes. This is best characterised by the contrast between the melancholic synths and head nodding beats on "Rservoir" and the storming analogue techno of "Istvaeonic".

Vapauteen - "Basilisk" - (4:51) 95 BPM
Review: As 2013 has progressed, the output of Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S label has become increasingly challenging, delivering a fierce blend of distorted darkroom techno and gritty industrial fuzz. Morelli is nothing if not open-minded, though, and this second label compilation - a follow-up to 2012's acclaimed American Noise, similarly featuring a disc of label highlights and a CD of unreleased bits - perfectly showcases the full gamete of the imprint's analogue-heavy sound. So, alongside the intoxicating techno drones of Svengalisghost and Vereker, we get the fluid electronics and footwork-tempo rhythms of Samantha's Vacation, the humid, dubwise electronics of Terekke, the wide-eyed goodness of Daywalker & CF, and the psychedelic synth-wave-meets-techno of Xosar. Oh, and the humid tropical warmth of Beautiful Swimmers' previously unheard "The Zoo".
