Review: Global Underground's' Select' series acts as a kind of annual nod to all the electronic music that floats their boat, with each digital download edition offering two (uncredited) CD-length mixes and full then versions of each included cut. 2024's edition - volume nine in total - is naturally packed to the rafters with tasty tracks from both established producers and rising stars. Review: Lost & Found main man Guy J is in a celebratory mood, in part because the label is on the cusp of hitting a century of releases. He may well have something special planned for release 100, but first, there's the small matter of 'LF099' - this expansive compilation of previously unreleased gems in the imprint's trademark style. Guy J naturally sets the tone with pleasingly wonky, moody and mind-altering opener 'Metal Dreams', before Chicola drops the melody-rich progressive house of 'Dreams For Breakfast' and Guy Mantzur goes deep, tech-tinged and hypnotic on 'Love in a Bottle'. Highlights continue to pop up throughout, with our picks including the rushing, sun-splashed gorgeousness of Eli Nissan's 'Valley of the Winds', the trance-inducing deep-tech wooziness of Khen's 'Golden Key', and the low-slung brilliance of Guy J's 'Illusions'.

Review: Guy J's Lost & Found bring us the fifth installment in their annual 'best of' series. The collection's sitting in our Deep House section but, like the label's output generally, would be equally at home on the progressive/melodic pages, with the label boss's two contributions sitting alongside tracks from other well-known names such as Brian Cid, Tantum, Stereo Underground and Roy Rosenfeld. It can all get a bit floaty and epic in places, and tracks like Stereo Underground's 'Space Fields' and Guy J's 'Beast Of Sea' arguably lean a little more towards the progressive techno side of things, but there's still much to enjoy here.

Review: Israeli progressive house hero Guy J's career has gone from strength to strength in the last few years with most of his epic journey tracks being released on the legendary John Digweed's Bedrock imprint. Quite fitting then that he now releases his first full length for the label, with they describe as "a vast melting pot of sonic exploration." Starting out with the driving percussive techno of "Bungalow" and the heavenly "8 Minute Flight" it's then business as usual on tracks like "Fools Dont Last" or "Live Another Day" which nail that progressive journey sound that he's now synonymous with. Other highlights include the dark groove of "Nirvana" the eleven minute long epic "The Love & The Fear" and the atmospheric slow burner "Paradox". There's a lot to get through but it's all killer, no filler. Also comes as two continuous mixes as bonus tracks by Guy J himself.

Review: Had enough of Ibiza's pounding tribal house and party minimal sounds? Bedrock feels the same way. Or at least for the duration of this excellent compilation they do. Jon Digweed has used his A&R (and persuasive) powers to their fullest, commissioning ambient and down tempo pieces from artists more commonly associated with peak-time club bangers. King Unique and Charlie May contribute haunting, fragile ambient tracks; the Ibiza Summer Balearic remix of Jimmy Van M and AFFKT' "Dreams" featuring Luxor T comprises lazy beats and sun-kissed vocals, while best of all, the Japanese Popstars' "Out Of Nowhere (Reprise)" is a stunningly cinematic ambient trance piece.

Review: Guy J's progressive house roots shine through on this first contribution to the Balance series. It's not just the sound - occasionally downtempo, always atmospheric and sometimes deliciously dreamy - but also his choice of tunes; each of the 13 tracks has been reconstructed or re-edited by the experienced Israeli producer. While this would be seen as self-indulgence in others, it gives the mix a coherence and fluidity that's never less than attractive. Wisely, he mixes it up throughout, flitting between dreamy deepness (Juan Deminicis), trippy dancefloor intensity (his edit of Radio Slave's version of APM 001's "Migrants"), picturesque goodness (Nevar's "Phases of Grief") and darting, melodic techno (Echomen).

Review: Bedrock mainstay Vassiloudis dives deep into the Miami vibe with a selection of vibes that represent the best side of the mega music conference. Not the obvious 'hands in the air' peaktime anthems but the more mature, discerning backbeat of the event. Spanning from more chilled poolside party pieces to more full-bodied slabs of euphoria, highlights include Guy J's spellbinding "Twenty 11", the ocean-like synth washes of O'Donovan's rush-tastic "Crimson Flare", and the warm chords and tribal rhythm of Eagles & Butterflies "Pharoah". Not the most obvious Miami tracks, but that's exactly the point of this lush, well selected exercise.
