Review: Swiss DJ Sassy J now curates the second compilation in the Patchwork series, for Dutch imprint Rush Hour. For the past 14 years, she has run a night of the same name in her hometown Bern, and another in London. Showcasing music by many of the artists that have joined her throughout the years in clubs, on the radio and at home, this release is made up of new and unreleased tracks, capturing a sound that has continued to evolve in its restless search for new musical directions. From the deep, soulful and emotive tones of Warm's "Blue Sunrise" or 2000Black's "Plastic Jam", to Afro influenced spiritual life music as heard by the lady herself (with Alex Attias) on "Jelly Bubble Rise", through to RH label staple Aardvark's hi-tech soul deconstruction "Aap Noot" and Mr Fingers stone cold classic "Survivor" - Sassy J takes you on an evocative sonic journey from start to finish.

Review: Hanna is Cleveland, Ohio's Warren Harris: a veteran producer with a career spanning 20 years who has released everywhere from Sublime, Track Mode, Paper Recordings and Sound Signature. He joins a growing list of underground heroes such as Rick Wade on the brilliantly created Shall Not Fade camp out of Bristol. Four soulful and emotive explorations in deepness await you On The Basis Of Deference EP. From the soothing urban blues of "In The Morning", "Psalms" with its creamy Rhodes chords and hypnotic vocals, or the bittersweet "Perhaps" which gets a remix by Cardiff veteran Earl Jeffers too.
Review: Warren Harris's recent outing on Funkineven's Apron label was a pleasingly varied and hard-to-pigeonhole affair, with the producer's usual woozy deep house being flanked by tracks that looked to starry ambient and deep drum and bass for inspiration. Predictably, there's more ear-pleasing fusion fare to be found in this speedy follow-up. While opener "Stranger" sounds like a heartfelt tribute to organic deep house heroes such as Ron Trent and Larry Heard, the jaunty and spacey "Worship" looks to mid-90s British tech-house for inspiration. He switches focus again on the undulating, synth-heavy boogie-house goodness of "No Fear", before unfurling a chunk of near perfect modern soul (the brilliant "Wayfaring Man") to round off another must-have EP.
