Review: Respected mix engineer, live act and producer Hannes Bieger returns to Poker Flat to follow up 2019's "Chemistry", bringing two stunning new tracks to the surface on The Heart EP. The title track features the unmistakable vocals of Philadelphia-based poet, activist and vocalist Ursula Rucker. Her powerful words at the forefront, supported by a deep and mesmerising arrangement that makes for perfect mood music. Second offering "Santorin" sees Bieger inject more dancefloor dynamics into proceedings on this hypnotic tech house groove. This one is just perfect for those heads down moments in the club on Sunday morning.

Review: Tronic unleashes its annual compilation, which as always contains the label's favourite tracks. "Luv Can Turn Around", a deep techy track from the late, great Pascal FEOS is a reminder of the many loved ones lost in the past year, while label owner Christian Smith's rolling rhythm and surging chords on "Hallucinate" signals a time in the near future when we'll be able to return to the dance floor. At the other end of the sonic spectrum Harry Romero delivers a bruising, jacking version of DJ Rush & Eric Sneo's "Take Me Back", while Sinisa Tamamovic's "Lost Memories" is a more intense iteration of that style, a steely, bleep-heavy techno track.

Review: Hannes Bieger has long been known as an acclaimed mastering engineer, but he is gradually stepping out of the shadows to release his own material. The latest label to provide a platform for his original material is Tronic, and Arc showcases his production prowess. The title track is a powerful rolling groove, with Bieger fusing crystalline synths with booming bass to make for a distinctive but powerful club track. On "Intrusion", he opts for a somewhat different approach; while still focusing on club-ready techno, the arrangement resounds to bleeding acid lines that will insinuate themselves into the listener's subconsciousness.

Review: Veteran Berlin producer and sound engineer Hannes Bieger returns to esteemed progressive powerhouse Bedrock, following up his debut EP "Stars" which was met with huge critical acclaim at the tail end of last year. Since stepping into the spotlight as an artist in his own right in 2017, Bieger has focused his bounteous energy on producing his own music and creating an unforgettable live show. Now presenting the tunnelling and strobelit acid inflections of "A Million Souls" featuring the stunning vocals of Francesca Lombardo, and yet another example of his spine-tingling electronic wizardry in the form of "Echelon" - a more upbeat and groovy affair on the tech house tip that is reminiscent of his recent work on Hamburg's Poker Flat.

Review: Renowned German mastering engineer Hannes Bieger makes a welcome return to production on this new EP for Poker Flat, but he is no stranger to the esteemed Hanseatic label. Bieger has previously presented both the Strato and Tephra EPs for them in recent times. Now he presents the brilliant new EP titled Chemistry. The title track is a deep sonar transmission, featuring hypnotic rhythms on a track beautifully realised with a vocal performance from Alexander Sjodin of Swedish act Sailor & I. Second offering "El Fuego" is more direct and full of dancefloor dynamics, on this moody and cerebral journey which is perfect for trancing-out under the strobe.

Review: John Digweed looks back on a terrific year that was 2018 - not to mention the 20th anniversary of his Bedrock label. This last year saw him serve up the Bedrock XX box set, team up with good mate Nick Muir on the terrific "Crazy Diamond" in addition to his awesome Live In Tokyo mix CD - so there's plenty to celebrate. Featured here are some of the year's highlights and exclusives alike by heroes of deep tech house such as: Booka Shade with their moody cruiser "Rosebud", Belgian veteran Jimmy Van M appears several times but is most on-form on "Cobalt", Systematic head honcho Marc Romboy with his impressive sci-fi epic "Cosmo" and the return of trance legend Oliver Lieb on the riveting "Epoxi".

Review: Deep, dark grooves are the order of the day on this latest from the mighty Bedrock, served up with the label's usual flare for all things melodic and epic. Lead track 'Stars' kicks into life with ominous synth sweeps and a throbbing two-note lead line, before a wistful, indie-ish male vocal arrives. That's accompanied by a Dub and the similarly crafted but vocal-free 'Scoria', while the EP's completed by 'Titan', a more stripped back and eyes-down variation on the theme. With something of a John Carpenter-esque feel at times, if you're looking for tracks with plenty of big rooom drama you've come to the right place.

Review: Germany's Voltaire Music return with some heavy hitters in techno, tech house, deepness and beyond. While it's mainly a Deutsche affair for the most part, they even managed to rope in Croatian hypnotic techno veteran Petar Dundov - who in conjunction with Systematic's Marc Romboy delivers the spiralling and melodic sorcery of "Caper Tran". Elsewhere, there's some epic dancefloor drama like on Tim Engelhardt's remix of "Florian Kruse & Hendrik Burkhard's "Crack In The Wall" featuring some heartfelt vocals by Mi.li.an. Highly lauded mastering engineer Hannes Bieger delivers the moody and entrancing "Strato" geared for those heads down moments under the strobelight and Frankfurt's finest Sascha Dive - he of Deep Vibes fame - delivers the goods as always on the darkroom dub of "Renegade" (Long version).

Review: It's a case of hunter turned gamekeeper as Hannes Bieger drops this heavyweight EP. Known to many as a mastering and mixing engineer of the highest quality, he now brings his considerable experience and prowess to bear on releasing his own music. The title track is lead by epic but dark trance hooks and supported by concrete weight kicks and recoiling bass. It's a powerful affair that moves effortlessly between house and techno. On the flip, Bieger goes darker and more menacing. "Caldera" revolves around a menacing bass that purrs malevolently, but it's the interplay with the ice cool synths playing out over the top that make it so powerful.
