Review: In what is fast developing into a state of the techno nation compilation, Illegal Alien delivers the second volume of Between Lands & Oceans. The Advent's "Tall Whites" is a lean, pacy techno track that takes the listener back to the act's mid to late 90s sound, while on "Aztek", Vinicius Honorio drops a similar, albeit more abrasive club track and Fixon's "Small Doses" is a rough take on Chicago ghetto techno. In contrast, N?rbak's "Rule Of Rescue" is a more nuanced, stepping track, while Abstract Division's "Encoder" and Merino's "Entering Colundi Galaxy" both focus on a subtle, tonal take on techno, inspired by Sahko and Sleeparchive.

Hattori Hanzo - "Interstellar Travel" - (5:51) 131 BPM
Drafted - "Recursion" - (7:45) 130 BPM
04LM - "A Strange New Beauty" - (5:47) 126 BPM Hot
Booz - "Five Years Later" - (5:49) 133 BPM
Spectrometre - "Ease In Slowly" - (6:47) 128 BPM
Review: Next up on Edit Select's label is a split EP with some fine interpretations of club techno. On "Recursion", Drafted strikes a near-perfect balance between surging bass and dreamy, spiralling synth melodies, while Hattori Hanzo carves a dubbed out rhythm and a cacophony of spaced out tones for "Interstellar Travel". In contrast, on the release's title track, 04LM opts for a drum-heavy groove that unravels gradually to reveal warm synth passages. Booz' "Five Years Later" returns to the kind of pace that Edit Select's label is best known for thanks to the use of hammering kicks and steely percussion, while Spectrometre's "Ease In Slowly" returns to a more drawn out sound thanks to the use of a pulsating, droning bass.

Review: Apparently recorded near Mount Fuji in Japan, The Sword is a functional but atmospheric affair. It starts with the driving rhythm, razor sharp percussion and eerie synths of "Sword 1", which sounds like Terrence Dixon and Mike Parker jamming together. On "Sword 2", Hanzo focuses on pummelling tribal drums, which provide the backdrop for tone-shifting bleeps. "Sword 3" is deeper and dubbed out, and sounds like a slightly tougher, steely take on the house sound of labels like Sistrum, while on the fourth "Sword", Hanzo puts his focus back on a stripped back approach, with a lean rhythm providing the basis for otherworldly soundscapes.
