Review: The hugely talented John Heckle dons his Head Front Panel alias to deliver this debut on Dark Machine Funk. In what is a slight departure from the project's usual approach, otherworldly synths are fused with dense break beats on "Panama". It's only a temporary divergence: Jeff Mills' influence bubbles to the surface on "Surdo", a dense Purposemaker-style groove - replete with dissected vocal samples. Meanwhile the title track sees Heckle drop a stripped back workout that centres on steely drums and metallic percussion. "Them" also pays homage to Detroit's darker side. Powered by dense kicks and snapping percussion, Heckle weaves in layers of mysterious synths, adding to its allure.

Review: Sonic Transmutations serves as a sonic odyssey commemorating the remarkable three-decade legacy of Clone Records. Celebrating its 31st year, echoing the Dutch national telephone code, and this 33-track mega-comp unites seasoned maestros with rising trailblazers, taking in a swathe of cuts from names like Aleksi Perala, DJ Sotofett and Dopplereffekt to John Heckle and his Head Front Panel project, Privacy, Steffi, Ryan James Ford and more. Dedicated at large to the electro genre, it's taken some three decades to bring this collection to life, standing as a testament to Clone's enduring musical legacy and unwavering commitment to exploring new sounds and structures. Extra tips include cuts from Legowelt, Keith Tucker's K1 project and Convextion's legendary E.R.P alias. Mega drop.

Review: Following his Clydeside Tales album last year, Fear-E hooks up with John Heckle under his Head Front Panel guise to deliver this hard-hitting split release. Fear-E's "Going For Gold" sets the tone, as relentless, corrosive percussion unfolds over a throbbing groove. He proceeds to up the intensity levels on "Bass Harrier", where a harder, driving rhythm provides the basis for insistent hi-hats and a muddy bass. Heckle's contributions are more abrasive. "Not4modernsystems" is built on distorted kicks and a bassline that's so corrosive it should come with a health warning. "Faded Toy Box" isn't as intense, but its pacy metallic rhythm and ferocious percussive blasts are also sure to hit the spot every time.

Review: John Heckle brings his Head Front Panel project to Repetitive Rhythm Research for four mesmerising techno tracks. Inspired by the otherworldly sounds of Jeff Mill's Something in the Sky series, both "Tone Dance" and "Spatial" resound to hypnotic bleeps, ticking hi hats and lithe, linear drum patterns. Changing tact, Heckle ups the pace on "Vocalize". Centred on a throbbing, pulsating groove, it's populated by layer upon layer of atmospheric textures - high-paced but cavernous. Closing out the release is "Interplay"; which is also the most intense track on the release and inhabits a middle ground between looped Millsian funk and the linear, driving rhythms of Robert Hood.

Review: Perc Trax launches a new split release series with a difference. All of the tracks on Forever 1 have been tested in clubs by label owner Ali 'Perc' Wells', and it shows. Manni Dee's "Gulabi Gang" is a ferocious stomper, led by concrete weight kicks and wild metallic riffs, while on Rebekah's "Diamond in the Rough", visceral drums, noisy percussion and white noise riffs prevail. The label has also tapped Scalameriya for a track and "Slobodna" resounds to broken percussion, noisy betas and a searing central riff that fades in and out, causing a sense of disorientation. Last but not least is John Heckle's Head Front Panel project with the aptly named "Furious", a malevolent slice of early Mills-influenced, dense techno.
