Review: To accompany Heiko Hoffmann's photography book of the same name, Above Board has compiled some of the best tracks to feature in Berlin clubs from the early 90s to nowadays. No Photos features the dramatic Detroit techno of 3MB's "The 4th Quarter" , while Mijk van Dijk and Tanith's 9-10-Boy project and Alec Empire's "SuEcide" capture the wide eyed rave of the early 90s. The compilation also features signature Berlin techno tracks - ss any record more closely linked to Hardwax/Berghain than the Maurizio Remix of Vainqueur's "Lyot"? -while the hypnotic bleeps of Sleeparchive's "Elephant Island" is a true minimal classic. Like the book, No Photos is expertly curated and executed.

This Is Then Finally Physical EP
Blackclap - (6:09) 126 BPM Hot
Aggression - (5:40) 127 BPM
Heartthrob - "Signs" (Thrill Cosby remix) - (4:56) 126 BPM
Stefan Tretau - "Chittagong" (Seth Troxler Jack Moves remix) - (6:32) 127 BPM
Review: As befits one of the most daring big name DJs, Seth Troxler's latest offering on his label is hard to pin down. "Blackclap" starts with the kind of warped stuttering percussion that defined mmml - possibly a tongue in cheek nod from Troxler - before moving into an effective, stepping rhythm. "Aggression" sounds inspired by his home town, Detroit; a tone-shifting bass unravels over dense drums as a scrambled radio broadcast plays away in the background. In truly unpredictable form, on the flip side Troxler opens things up to some of his close associates; the Thrill Cosby take on Heartthrob's "Signs" is a morose, noisy stepper, while Troxler himself turns Stefan Tretau's "Chittagong" into a stripped back, bleepy rhythm.

Nairobi Candles: Burning Bright
Stop Lorraine (No Oneas Gunna Stop mix) - (8:22) 127 BPM Hot
Triangle (Another Epic Breakdown mix) - (6:34) 127 BPM
Nairobi Candles (Fuck Rachel Tension mix) - (5:58) 127 BPM
Review: Jesse Siminski returns with a great new EP for Seth Troxler's esteemed imprint. This hero of mid-noughties minimal is most defined by his output on Richie Hawtin's M-nus powerhouse, in addition to releases on Hot Creations and of course his on ISNISNT vinyl imprint - launched in 2012. It just released a great split EP by himself and acid freak Justin Cudmore. 'Nairobi Candles: Burning Bright' features three reduced and bumped out jams that are at their optimum when played in the early evening or after hours alike. The bass driven mini-funk of dynamic opener "Stop Lorraine" (No One's Gunna Stop mix) proves that as much as Siminki's output has slowed down in recent years, he certainly hasn't lost his groove. The title track's Fuck Rachel Tension mix gets off on a more retro tip, referencing Italo and early Chicago house aesthetics for a right jackathon!
