Review: Vatos Locos head honcho Hector has been on a roll of late, with his wicked Rogue Traders release and a couple more EPs full of remixes for added measure. Now he teams up with a label staple - Berlin via Miami's David Gtronic - for some direct impact tech-house with an undeniable latin charm on new offering "Holding On", a dubby and tripped-out affair perfectly suited to the the afterhours. Warped and truly psychedelic minimal techno that takes it cues from the Romanian sound follows on next cut "Gapacho" and lastly they hammer the message home with some tough rolling tech-funk on the wicked "Villa Kubu".

Review: VL Recordings label chief Hector served up a solid three-tracker of brooding club cuts named Rogue Traders last year, which was his first solo dispatch on the imprint since his inaugural Jacuzzi Killer EP in 2016. He returns with this solid set of remixes - the first in a series which features the likes of homeboy Sakro - the man from Aguascalientes serving up some seriously swing-fuelled and funked up tech house on his rework of "Self Made", Berlin-by-way of Miami's David Gtronic (SCI + TEC/Leftback) gets on a trippy minimal vibe for the afterhours on his version of the title track, and always reliable Javier Carballo - fresh off the release of his terrific Silver Smiles LP for the label last year - serves up some tough rolling business for the mainroom on his version of "Manna Means Heaven".

Review: Following releases by Javier Carballo and Sakro, label boss Hector steps up with Rogue Traders. Inspired in equal measures by deep house, tribal rhythms and the frosty shuffle of minimal, this expansive three-tracker is also reflective of Hector's deep DJing experience. The title track gets the release off to an impressive start, with robust, steely rhythms underpinning swirling chords. It's quickly followed by the heads-down dub of "Manana Means Heaven", where Hector integrates spacey filters with a dense, rolling groove. On "Self-Made", he changes approach again, with drums chugging away effectively and a powerful bass cutting through the tight percussive backing.

Review: Mexican producer Hector has sure come a long way. From his humble beginnings in London's underground scene, working the counter of London's infamous Phonica record store and becoming a regular at popular London haunts of the time like fabric and T Bar (R.I.P.) he has gone on to international stardom, playing the word circuit and launching his Vatos Locos imprint: the very label which launches this compilation and credited to the highly popular Playa del Carmen festival that he has since become a regular guest at. Highlights on here (and there's many!) not limited to: the hi-tech soul sounds of Carl Craig with his classic "Sandstorms" or Martin Buttrich with his classic from 10 years ago "Full Clip". More recent classics such as Loco Dice's remix of Carl Cox's "Family Guy" and Nicole Moudaber & Skin (of Skunk Anansie) with their explosive "You Like This" getting a rolling rendition courtesy of Paco Osuna. The VL Recordings head honcho appears also, with a bunch of new exclusives: the best being his track "L.A. Kr3w" getting a makeover by Detroit boss man Stacey Pullen.

Review: The latest collection on Loco Dice's label is its most wide-ranging release yet. It veers from the minimal/tribal fusion of Shlomi Aber's "Mind Tribus" and the drum-heavy workout of San Francisco veteran Joeski's "Beware of the Drum" to the deep, bleepy techno of Anthea's "Booty Call". It's true that Desolat's main focus is European house and techno, but this compilation embraces US influences. Robert Dietz's "You're So Hood" fuses sleazy p-funk bass with the primal stomp of Cajmere, while Detroit producer Eddie Fowlkes provides the raw back beats and muffled vocal samples of the sublime "I'm Telling You".

Review: It's hard to believe that Loco Dice's label has been around for so long - or more surprisingly that it covers so much ground. While much of the label's focus remains on toolish, tribal house, 5 Years also covers deep, chiming house, audible on Yaya's "Our Connection" and the driving, vocal-filled groove of Dice's own "Lolopopinho". Of the tribal-styled tracks, the ones that stand out most are the ponderous vocals of Basti Grub's "Drunk & High" and the intoxicating chants of Francisco Allendes' "Platonic Solid". Yet neither can compare to the acid-filled, rolling snares of Horatio's "How Much 909 Can You Take", which sounds like LFO vs FUSE's "Loop" on acid.
