Gun Audio continue their Reload series with another epic slab of forthright freshness from some of the most respected names in the game: From master craftsman OGs like Heist, Murdock, Rowney & Propz and Jaydan to unavoidable hurter heroes Turno to exciting new talents like Jaxx, Vacuum and Meladee, it's a premiership rollcall each packing a heavyweight punch. Highlights across the 23-strong collection include Jaydan's reverse-stringing, cat-strangling freak out on "Murdering Monster", the hornet bass shakes and switches of Jaxx's "Combinations" and the frog chorus on Blackley's "TMI" but that really is the tip of the most explosive V/A album Gun Audio have ever detonated. Review: Heist's beastmode is still in full effect as he continues to bombard the scene with versatility vibes. "Rejected Love" shows him at his deepest side with a measured halftime arrangement and pads that come straight from his time lurking in the studio with Goldie. "Charybdis" lives up to its mythical monster title with its crunching textures, crushing drums and crucial robo-funk. Finally "Soul Food" sparkles with so much liquid majesty and dream-laced space it could make Bcee or Makoto blush. Each style smashed with skillish charm; blinkered subgenre purists take a leaf out of Heist's book, please.

Review: Serum & Heist: the only way this can get any heavier is if the EP came with a free elephant. It doesn't, but pachyderms ain't necessary when these two pack punches like this. Pure KO science in every tune, highlights include the breath taking groan on Serum's "Soul Travelling", the filtered waves of funk and wobbled-out subs on Heist's "Via The Shires", the jazzy twinkles and bouncy bassline charge on "People Of Earth" and classic Zinc-style dreamy twist up on "Soul Grapes". That's before we even mention the killer nature of "Setup" and "Moon Unit". Six b-line scuds, two absolute legends. You know what to do.

Review: Following his scene-shaking Metalheadz EP, the unstoppable Heist machine continues it demolition mission, this time on his own label Sumo. "Mancubus" all Doom, no gloom as a funk-coded jump-up arrangement is peppered with animated samples and squiggles. "Grotty Chops" is a much more traditional happy slapper with its sandpaper bassline shredding up and down the spectrum, pummelling drums and clear references to the women in your family. Heist is killing it even more than usual this year.

Review: Few men do it like Heist. In fact no one does... Especially when he's on a stripped back gully flex like "Pillager". It's the tune every jump-up track wants to be when it grows up; fat, simple, hooky but still classy and funky. It's an impossible combination but he's nailed it. "Egg Plant Mans", meanwhile, shows off Heist's jungle wizardry with iced out Headz-style textures weaving in and out of the robust breaks before another guttural bassline thunders your senses. Seven of your five a day.

Review: D Minus presents us with Hoes on Death By Bass recordings. Offended yet? If not; read on. Four nasty nasty darkside techsteppers on offer here. Obviously the affectionately titled title track with its vocoded vocals and tightly programmed beat that slaps you in the face. "West Side Grade" offers more of the same but its bassline is a right grating one! On "Sledgehammer" Traumatik proudly proclaims "I love my Cannabis/if you don't like me/drink a can of piss", right then. Finally "Another Planet" hammers the message home, a true stepper with attitude.

Review: VIP alert! Heist's forever-awesome "Termination" from last year gets a VIP-up from the big man himself. Still flexing that powerful early 2000s Clipz/Twisted/G Dub style sense of fun, the VIP hits with a little more bassline toxicity and heaviness. Jaydan joins the party with a similarly foul remix where the focus is shifted onto the rolling pneumatic drums and gritty laser stabs. Absolute stinkers.

Review: Having collided before on Heist's own Calypso Muzak with "Kuma Bear", Heist and Spaow lock horns once again, this time on Phantom Dub Digital. Taking a side each, both artists go all-in with two balls-out party damagers. Heist's "Detected" is straight out of the mid 2000s when he really made his mark on the game with a bass sound so twisted not even Clipz could touch him. Spaow's "Want To Know" acts all mean and gruff with myriad bass textures but suddenly shows a much more sensitive, soulful side with the swooning keys on the mid-section. Two premium slabs of bassweight right here if you can handle them?

Review: Cool Runnings since 2009, Shrust's PDD imprint continues to deliver the turbo-charged goods. The first in the German label's inaugural "This Is Jump Up" series, the titles and players it comprises says it all: Heist ignites the brutal bass bonfire with a classic early zeroes sound (think Twisted Individual for the modern day dance), he's followed by a slew of label regulars, each one vying for first place in the sharpest gunfinger world series: Zodiac goes all croaky bass, Tron dusts off the horror movie collection, Steampunk gets super-twisted with down pitched paranoid tones while Damage Report strip back the science for something more classical and lean. Last but not least Mq brings back the skank factor. Walloping.
