Review: Spanish techno label Secta drops a killer compilation that spans a range of styles. Stinky Producer's self-titled contribution focuses on glitchy minimalism. Cravo's "Kemu" is a more intense take, focusing on an urgent stripped back sound. In contrast, DJ Ali's "Feva Dream" is a rolling tribal techno banger. The compilation changes focus again with Alarico's "Fluid" - an urgent stepping rhythm that draws on dub influences. Volume 1 also has a strong house influence. Danny Wabbit's "Girls Like Wine" is a driving, techy affair, populated by tripped out vocal samples, while Audio Units' "C Bass" resounds to a succession of building chords.

Review: Dutch label Dynamic Reflection has always excelled at releasing tough club techno - and Transient Response is no exception. Hertz Collision, who impressed last year with the Nowhere EP on the label, kick starts this split release with the raw drums and insistent riffs of "Loaded". A Thousand Details, who runs Reaktivate Records, delivers the heads-down, pumping "Apollo 12", while US producer Uun opts for a more atmospheric approach as he delves into Detroit techno for the hypnotic "Chrysalis". Finally, Stratum re-focus the release on harder sounds with the clicking percussion and gnarly bass of "A Fraction of Time". As Transient Response demonstrates, few labels do banging techno better than Dynamic Reflection.

Review: With a series of releases between them on Uncage, Frozen Border and Be As One, Hertz Collision and Gene Richards Jr have an enviable back catalogue. Now they take their crafty club techno sound to Chris Liebing's label. The title track is an angular, metallic affair, peppered with repetitive vocal samples and firing hi hats. On "Change", they explore a different approach; the groover is straight and is punctuated by pummelling kicks, with intense tonal bleeps and sheet metal percussion throughout the arrangement. Layered on top of these elements is a hypnotic vocal sample, which adds an extra, mysterious dimension to "Change". Factor in a pounding take on "Must Do It" from Truncate, and this is a really heavyweight techno release.

Review: Following on from last year's Vent release on Truncate, Hertz Collision teams up with Gene Richards Jr for his next EP. On "Hood Thang", the pair further the label's mandate to deliver tracky dance floor techno. The title track is built on lead weight kicks, which provide the backdrop for vocal snatches and looped chord stabs. "Out Of Love" is deeper, with pair deploying a combination of dubbed out drums and diva-esque vocal samples to great effect. They shift focus for "Need to Jack": using ponderous vocals that call to mind Chicago house, they layer it over a hyperactive, busy rhythm and dense percussion.
