Review: Peggy Gou's label delivers a compilation that features regular contributors to her label. Mogwaa's "11khz" resounds to a fusion of rolling, shaking drums and lush synths. Exploring this theme further, Salamanda's "Mockingbird" is more contemplative thanks to its combination of swirling melodies and downtempo drums. In contrast, the wonderful Hiver duo drop a crystalline electro track in the shape of "Lunar". The compilation also serves up some fine dance floor tracks: DMX Krew weighs in with the clubby, angular rhythms of "One Take", Brain de Palma's "Road to Tatooine" is a fine, wonky acid track - and Closet Yi's "Sonder" is a shimmering break beat track

Review: After a decade spent dashing between labels including Curle Recordings, Polifonic, Fides and Bukhari, Hiver has parked their sonic spaceship in the virtual docking bay of Peggy Gou's Gudu imprint. The Italian twosome are in typically far-sighted and futurist mode throughout, first unveiling a surging, rush-including slab of piano-laden Italian dream house/acid-flecked sci-fi techno fusion ('The Initiative'), before effortlessly switching to sparkling, super-sonic electro ('Vapour'). The Italian twosome then blur the boundaries between electro and techno with the gorgeous musical star-shower that is 'Entangle'. To close out proceedings, they wrap a tactile, squeezable techno groove in cascading electronic motifs and psychedelic, acid-style tweakery. In a word: ace!

Review: On the latest instalment of the long-running DJ-Kicks series, Peggy Gou paints a vivid picture. It starts with the widescreen ambience of Space Time Continuum's 1993 debut, "Fluresence", before moving into her own, cosmic "Hungboo" and the niggling acid of Pearson Sound's "Earwig", a contemporary cousin to Plastikman's Musik. There are other endearing oddities here, such as Andrew Weatherall's seductive house version of Sly & Lovechild's "The World According To..." and the raw drums of Kyle Hall's "Flemmenup". Gou has also included a Detroit techno classic, Psyche's "Crackdown", but balances this out with new, unreleased tracks from I:Cube - "Cassette Jam 1993" sees the maverick French producer deliver a frazzled, hazy affair - and Hiver's pulsating, acid-flecked "Pert".

Review: A taster from Peggy Gou's contribution to the DJ Kicks series, this split release showcases the range and breath of her selections. On one end of the spectrum there's I:Cube's "Cassette Jam 1993", where the maverick French producer delivers a frazzled, hazy groove that bathes in a mellow glow and is made even more trippy thanks the use of some indistinct vocal samples. At the opposite end sits Hiver's "Pert", where the Italian pair loop a pulsating, acidic groove to infinity and beyond. Gou's own contribution is very much at the mellow end of the scale: "Hungboo" is led by cosmic flutes, organic beats and some cosmic Asian vocals.

Review: Jaunt Records' 10 year celebrations are spanning a series of releases that feature a broad spectrum of artists searching for the ultimate deep techno fix. The four contenders that occupy this Sea release all have their own agenda, but they sit together perfectly. Hiver weaves illustrious pads in between nimble electro drums and bubbling acid bass, while Artefakt creates eerie, fractured acid meanderings to send a shiver down your spine. Hinode does some deft break choppage to create a dreamy trip for the up all night crew, and then Region rolls the record out on an emotive tip while keeping the rhythm section pumped up for the floor.

Review: Italian production pair Hiver specialise in blurring the boundaries between deep house and techno, audible on a string of acclaimed EPs for Vidab and Curle. Now they make their debut on Obscura and a similar approach applies. Both "Inverted Scale" and "RJ45" are driving but tranced out affairs, while at the other end of the spectrum, there's the glorious ambience of the title track and "Glass Effect". Both arrangements have a depth and atmospheric sensibility rarely heard in modern electronic music. Orbe is given the challenging task of reworking "Spiritual Machines", but succeeds in turning it into a rolling house workout. It's another deep masterclass from Hiver.

Review: Italian label Just This rounds off a stellar year with this split release. Digging deep into underground house and techno, it brings together some of the finest artists who often fly under the radar. "Aechmea" is typical of the crisp, broken beat techno that Ed Davenport's Inland project specialises in, while on "Zona", Ben Gibson drops a straighter rhythm track, albeit one that is still covered in mysterious synths. On "Kundal", the anonymous producer My Flower delivers a vivid, frazzled groove, while completing the release is Italian pair Hiver, whose gloriously melancholic "Stellar Parallax Landing" is the highlight of an esoteric release.
