Review: Hizzleguy is part of the incredibly healthy jump-up scene at the moment, part of the next generation of artists in at side of the scene coming through and re-energising not just jump-up, but the whole of D&B. Biological Beats is one of the most prolific labels in this movement and Hizzleguy's Fist of the North Star EP is the their latest hellish piece of work. The beats here are big, bad and don't care about your feelings, with the title tune exemplifying the approach taken: gargling basses and pounding percussive lines. Top release.

Review: Down 2 Earth Musik is Macky Gee's label and for the end of the year he's coming at you with a fat compilation of tunes that fit in with the sound he's pioneered this year and the last. Not many artists have been as break out a success as Macky this year and it shows on this release, things kicking off with the fiery VIP of 'Calm Before The Storm', an appriopriate title for the first tune of an album that goes on to include tracks like Rawtee's 'Alligator' and Matzet's 'Roller Coaster'. Arguably the highlight comes from Macky himself though when he's joined by MC Skibadee on Bangers N Mash, a proper skank out with one of the most legendary MCs in the game.

Review: It seems Hizzleguy saves his biggest EPs for Sweet Tooth these days.... Following the perennially chop slapping badness of Drill Claw last year comes this seven piece epic that's fittingly titled "Pull Up Riddims". Each cut screaming reload at the top of its tar caked lungs, highlights include the rowdy bee's nest bass buzzes of "Hadouken", the coiled spring savagery of "Hard" and a particularly insane VIP take on "Drill Claw". Did someone say pull up?

Review: This is a big release, both literally and metaphorically. Sitting at 58 tracks, it's clear that the Dub Damage crew wanted to pack as many of their best moments as they possible could into the album. If you're a jump-up fan, think of this as a bit like the holy grail of jump-up and the inclusion of remixes and originals from dons like Original Sin, Annix, Turno and Sub Zero cement that fact. Aside from those legends, DJ Alpha comes through with 'The Man With The Golden Gun', a riotous blend of punched out bass synths, whilst Kre & Basshoven low-key steal the show with 'Toronto Blue'. A fat album this, and a lesson in how to do compilations right.

Review: Put away those gunfingers, get out your laserfists and punch the air like it's your biggest enemy ever; Hizzleguy gets busy on Brockie and Profile's swiftly developing Octave Recordings and the results are nothing short of anarchic. "Spaceman" (with Profile) is an ozone piercing laser shredder with more high frequencies than a bat sanctuary. "Ladies Night", meanwhile, salutes the gyaldem with a rugged rolling bottom end Q and a rasping high end A. Please form an orderly queue.

Review: When Hizzleguy tells you to hold it down, you jolly well do it like your life depends on it... And you don't stop until you've worn a massive hole on the floor from holding it down so hard you can't even feel your arms under the pressure of broken glass laser bass any more. "Shockwave" continues the heavy pressure with more dramatic high end staccato rifle riffs. Pure savagery.

Review: Hizzle brings the furious fizzle back to Levela's Multi-Function with a killer new original and a heavily demanded VIP. "Gatz" is the former; all riff-focused with the right amount of frazzled funk and a drop that's laced with some deft trippy techno elements while "Big Sound VIP" takes his last Multi-Function banger and gives it a little melodic variation and a huge boost on the pay off. The clue's in the title.

Review: Hizzleguy and Shabba D: there's sheer devilry in this collabo scenario. We know it. You know it. Your neighbours are going to know it very soon, too... "Chop Chop" has a touch of the psycho about it thanks to its staccato, spiky riff. "Kill Dem" lives up to its name and all: savage, high-frequency sound designs spur around the spectrum as Hizzle's hefty drum arrangement pushes you into next week before your feet can say otherwise. Review: If there's any tune that can truly say I'll be back it's Hizzleguy's screech-funk stepper "Terminator". Released in January, it has returned in both VIP and remix form... And the results are even more hair-raising. The former is pure mimetic poly-alloy T-1000 with its stretched out bass textures and unnerving sense of danger while the latter (courtesy of Nu Elementz) will take your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle with its added grizzly bass tones and looser sense of funk. Terminated.

Review: Another year, another sterling slew of toxic jumpy underground darkness, Hizzleguy makes what appears to be his EP debut on Maji's Sweet Tooth. His biggest body of work since last summer's epic nine-track EP on Biological "Pure Energy", it's a six-track serenade to the Devil himself; the glitchy, sense-blurring computer funk of "Mutant", the grizzly high-toned bass spasms of "Carry You" and the skin-melting textures and pass of "Apocalypse" are three of many highlights.

Review: Guaranteed to leave you punch drunk: newcomer label Iron Fist KO the dance once again with longstanding speaker shredder Hizzleguy. "Terminator" comes on strong, demanding your boots, your clothes and your motorcycle - its prang bassline leaving you naked and vulnerable with every snare punch and kick slap. "Throw A Dog A Bone" snarls with an Alan Ford style cockney rasp, an energetic croaked-out bassline and some classic samples on the breakdown. Hasta la vista.

Review: His largest body of work on Levela's Multi Function imprint since his "Eat Lead" EP, and his first EP this year full-stop, Hizzleguy returns with a whole slew of characteristic aggression sessions. The stiletto heel bass on "Pressure" will puncture your soul, the Foreigner-sampling "Cold As Ice" will whisk you away to happy hardcore memories gone by, the stretched-out atonal trippiness of "Big Sound" will twist your head 360 with paranoid delusions while the bone shaking amens of "Let The Bass Kick" will lift the most jaded of floors. Big indeed.

Review: Fatman Dee's dusted off his big black book of contacts and commissioned some huge remixes for this all-out version excursion. Turno takes the lead with a full fat-and-gristle shake-up of Dominator's "Holes In Ya Chest" while Voltage adds an array of unique sonic twists and designs on his take on "Willy Wonka". Dig deeper for the unstoppable Decimal Bass letting loose with a confident swagger on "Shoot Dem" and Konichi sets his space lasers to stun on "The Shuttle Skank". Finally DJ Limited lays down not one but two remixes of Jayline's "Peanut Butter On Toast". Part one rolls with some really cool old school middy tones while part two combines an early TC style squelch. Both are exceptional.

Review: One word to describe this guy? Filthy. As you'd expect from an EP with a warning as a title, this isn't for the faint hearted. Weighty, battered bass thumps down into the foundations, packing serious dancefloor appeal into these snappy, quickfire releases. With nods to both the jungle and the North European neuro sounds, there's an enticing mish-mash of destruction whichever way you turn. There's a fair bit of experimentation too, like in "Whoopsi" where retro gaming takes a wrong turn somewhere and ends up deep in jump-up country. If you're looking for screwface opportunities, you've found them here.

Review: Biological Beats are the latest addition to the Playaz roster of quality sister labels and on this sterling compilation there's a real sense of a stamp of approval - double B are looking to cement their sound. Kicking off with the beautiful sampling and hard thump of techy drums that is Jayline's "Time To Play", there's no let up and each tune brings its own blend of bone-shaking beats and subtleties. From minimal atmospherics to soaring string sections, this is jump up like you've never heard it before. Oozing with creativity and gasping for the light, forget all you know about heat-crazed dancefloor drum and bass and come over to the dark side. You know it makes sense.
