Review: Throne of Blood continue their sixteenth anniversary celebrations with this fine compilation. Feted UK producer Daniel Avery gets the ball rolling with the deep, textured techno of "Ricochet", while on "Nylon Future", Heidi Sabertooth pushes in a different direction. Powered by a bruising sub-bass and chopped up percussion, these combined elements make for a rousing workout. Que Sakamoto & NT pursue a different electro path; while the rhythm is stripped back, their use of vocal samples and jittery chords sets "Kakegae" apart from typical electro sounds. Shifting gear again, Hoshina Anniversary lower the tempo on "Eiroku", a chugging slice of disco noir.

Review: Having kick started his career internationally through the likes of Blood Music, Boys Noize Records and a now faded electro scene, Hoshina Anniversary has ebbed his way into the catalogues of DJ Lyster's Youth label, London's Alien Jams and ESP Institute. Jomon presents the artist with a sixth album and third release for Love Fingers' label, and it presents a unique blend of downbeat electronics and industrial jazz to acid techno tracks, harder edged breakbeats and avant pop that all feature Hoshina Anniversary's inherent exotic touch. And for something straight out of the blocks we recommend the house groove and playful hauntolgies of "Rokumeikan".

Review: Having broken cover last March to release an album of wonderfully eccentric electronica on Alien Jams, Hoshina Anniversary returns to ESP Institute for the first time since the tail end of 2019. The Japanese producer is once again in cosmic and otherworldly - but nevertheless dancefloor-friendly form, prioritising undulating acid bass, bongo-rich drums, jazz-funk style electric piano solos and alien-sounding chords on mid-tempo opener 'Karakuri'. He brilliantly pitches down the tempo on accompanying track 'Michinoku', quirkily underpinning a clicking, lo-fi drum track with minor key piano riffs and creepy-but spacey chords on 'Michinoku'.

Review: This third volume of the Twin Turbo compilation is a timely reminder of Turbo's consistency when it comes to delivering varied dance music. The TRACE7000 remix of Jakwob's "Feel So Good" is a pulsating, acidic track, while Kill Frenzy ups the intensity levels with the swampy electronics and ghetto jack of "Follow Me". In contrast, ANNA's "Artha" is a sleek affair, its linear rhythm supporting tranced out rhythms, while on "Build Up Your House", Hoshina Anniversary delivers a modern take on Chicago jack, with repetitive vocals underpinned by a grainy rhythm. Label owner Tiga also makes an appearance, with Dense & Pika delivering a techy take on his version of Public Enemy's "Louder Than A Bomb".

Review: ESP Institute has become synonymous with championing left of centre dance music and this debut by Hoshina Anniversary is testament to the label's knack of supporting unusual releases. "Sagano" revolves around a low-slung groove and robust drums that support droning textures and colourful synths. On "Haru Wa Akebon'", the Tokyo producer moves towards some semblance of convention; designed for more discerning dance floors, staccato percussion and an understated, pulsating rhythm play host to warm house keys and the sound of machines malfunctioning in the background. It rounds off the latest eccentric EP to be issued by the ESP roster.

Review: Young Marco's Safe Trip label can always be relied on to release left of centre electronic music - and Hakkenden is no exception. The work of Hoshina Anniversary, it starts with "Hakkenden I", where the Tokyo-based DJ/producer delivers a loose house groove that resounds to easy listening piano lines and irresistible acid squelches. It makes for an unusual but endearing dance floor track. By contrast, "Hakkenden II" is much more upfront; the pace is faster and the beats are tougher, but that distinctive eccentricity lingers in the arrangement, with psychedelic keys swirling their way seductively through the steely drums.

Review: Hoshina Anniversary is a Japanese producer who has put out material on Boyz Noise and now makes a debut for Turbo's sub-label. On "Build Up Your House", he makes a lo-fi play on the Detroit house/techno of K.Hand and Kevin Saunderson; over a pumping groove, he drops ponderous vocals and a scratchy riff that is at odds with the streamlined, stab-heavy backing track. The title track is also a slamming affair, but again its author throws in another curve-ball - this time in the form of a squeaky vocal and some noisy blips and bleeps. "Broken Mo" is less conventional, revolving around splintered broken beats, but Hoshina Anniversary soon reverts to the dance floor with the sweaty pulses of "All You Need is 'Good'".
