Review: Unlike many of its rivals, Fingerman's Hot Digits label doesn't fill its' obligatory annual compilation with back catalogue cuts. Instead, we're offered a vast number of previously unheard re-edits, remixes and original productions. It's a successful blueprint and one religiously adhered to on Hot Digits: Year Seven, the popular imprint's latest must-check collection. There's not enough room to single out every sonic highlight, but our current favourites include the breezy boogie squelch of Ross Fitz's 'I Miss Your Love ('85 Mix)', the driving deep house haziness of Fingerman and Henri Le Blanc's 'Leave Your Cares Tonight', the neo-trance cheeriness of Picklejam's 'Endorphin Situation' and the stab-happy, peak-time house retro-futurism of 'The Feeling' by Downunder Disco.

Review: For the latest volume in their popular Disco Funkin' compilation strand, Bomb Strikes has handed over curation duties to rising star and Midnight Riot regular Natasha Kitty Katt. The Edinburgh DJ/producer's selections are undeniably addictive and on-point, moving between heavyweight re-edits (see her collaboration with Twisted Soul Collective, 'Twisted Katt', solo disco-funk tweak 'Edgarr!' and Oliver Boogie's slamming 'Dance Band'), superior nu-disco originals (Phoenix's piano-heavy 'Nature Dance', Fouk's sample-heavy 'Cat Lady' and the slick boogie revivalism of Lovebirds' 'Give Me a Sign') and loopy disco-house treats (the contributions from Shaka Loves You, Birdee, Hotmood and Mark Lower). Those looking for fresh dancefloor ammunition will find much to enjoy, while the Scottish DJ's accompanying mix is as entertaining and excitable as they come.

Review: To kick-start a fourth year of disco-fuelled madness, Hot Digits chief Fingerman has put together this sizeable compilation of previously unheard exclusives. As you'd expect, there's far more killers than fillers to be found amongst the 28-track deep selection or re-edits and original productions. Highlights include the clarinet-laden electrofunk-meets-disco bounce of Frank Virgilio's "It's Your Boogie Baby", the disco-goes-hip-hop flex of Tony Disco's delicious "Rolling Paper", the sparkling nu-disco goodness of "When It Comes To Funk" by Stephen Richards, the driving disco-house bump of Ash Reynolds' "Cold Girl" and the fuzzy electrofunk wobble of Don Dayglow's "Many Things". Throw in fine contributions from Chewy Rubs, Le Visiteur, norse man Jarle Brathen and, of course, Fingerman, and you have a must-buy collection of cuts.

Review: Spain's Rare Wiri serve up four disco/nu-disco cuts that aren't actually as Latin-leaning as the title may lead you to believe. Label boss Rayko and Fran Deeper join forces on a cover of The Steve Miller Band's classic 'Abracadabra' that has a few flamenco guitar flourishes at the start, sure, and the panpipes that grace Hotmood's 'Rapture' (NB: not the Blondie track) hint at South/Central American influences, but elsewhere Cuz Electric's 'Got The Feeling' is a sleazy electric disco-funker with an early 80s feel while Monsieur Von Pratt's 'Tonight' is sheer late 70s NYC exuberance. So check for this whether you're a Latin lover or not!

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit bring us an EP packing one track apiece from some of the biggest names on the contemporary disco scene. 'My Dream Come True' from Mexican fave Hotmood is a hazy, looping affair with a soulful male vocal, while Montenegro's Mitiko reworks Fatback classic 'Do The Bus Stop' as 'Are You Ready'. We stay in re-edit mode as label boss Tonbe, in his Loshmi guise, revists Jimmy Bo Horne's 'Is It In?' on 'Yes It Is', before finally Brian SNR closes out the EP with 'Wanna Kiss You', which sports an almost punk-funk/new wave-style vocal and some glorlously cheesy 80s sax work.

Review: Over the past five years Mexico's Guillermo Gonzalez Santana, better known as Hotmood, had dropped a good 30 or so singles/EPs on a number of imprints including Tonbe's Disco Fruit, who now round up his previous output for the label in album form. Regular disco buyers may have most of what's here in their collections already, then, but if you've yet to get acquainted this is the perfect opportunity to do so, with standouts including the irresistible lil' jazzy, funky hip-wriggler that is 'Mr Funkyman', the laidback, handclap-tastic disco groove of 'My Disco Collection' and the looping cut-up soul of 'Clean Cuts'.

Review: Here's one of those releases that really doesn't need a lot of explaining - anyone with even a passing interest in nu-disco should be more than familiar with all four artists involved, as well as the label! Hotmood brings the 70s vibes on the string-drenched, guitar-flecked 'You Are A Star', C Da Afro fast-forwards to the 80s boogie era with the shiny-suited 'So Good For Me', while Loshmi arguably gets the most inventive, mixing up Afro, Latin and spy movie soundtrack vibes on 'Regah'. It's the lazy, laidback funk/jazz-funk of Mitiko's 'Back To Dance', though, that takes the gold.

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit bring us a digital collection of tracks that were (mostly) previously only available on wax. Label boss Tonbe supplies four of 'em, and with most of the rest coming from equally familiar names such as Dr Packer, Hotmood, Mitiko and Loshmi, you know the bar's set high! Stylistically, the album ranges from authentic-sounding low-slung funkers like Hotmood's 'Let's Ride' and Tonbe's 'Gem Picker' to the breezy uptempo soul of 84Bit's 'Mamma Jamm' and the boogie nouveau of Dr Packer & Loshmi's 'In Case Of Emergency', while special shout-outs go to Evil Smarty, who almost out-Fatbacks Fatback, and to Mitiko's excellent reworking of the mighty Janet.

Montenegran producer Sasha Mitich, AKA Mitiko, then takes liberties with Janet Jackson (and gets away with it) on 'What Have You Done For Me', before label co-owner Loshmi plays us out with laidback, headnodding instrumental 'Soul Food'

Review: Even by the standards of the disco edit scene, where producers and scalpel fiends think nothing of chucking out new EPs left, right and centre, Hotmood Man Guillermo Gonzalez is impressively prolific. Unlike some of his contemporaries, though, his high standards never split. There's naturally plenty to admire on this return to Disco Fruit, from the baggy-but-bouncing brilliance of "Afro Vibrations" - all lolloping beats, Fela Kuti style sax solos, layered percussion and rich Afro-funk guitars - to the humid and sun-kissed chug of "Tropical", which appears to mix samples lifted from a cover of a well-known jazz-funk jam with warm and wozzy new instrumentation. Also impressive is "Shiny Stockings", a loopy, boogie-driven jam that sits somewhere between Tiger & Woods and Nang-style nu-disco.

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit Records present a 15-track collection packed with disco, nu-disco and disco-house goodness. It's very much an in-house affair - label boss Tonbe contributes two tracksm while Disco Fruit regular Mitiko is behind a further six - which makes the general standard of what's on offer even more impressive. Highlights include Mitiko's boogie-ish 'Do You Really Want My Love?', Loshmi's gloriously camp, Euro-inspired 'Easy Night Drive', Hotmood's lazy, low-slung 'Let's Ride' and Tonbe's phat-assed jazz-funker 'That Sample', while special mention should be made of Kellini's 'No Balance' which, to older ears, is Animotion's 'Obsession' in disguise.

Review: Guillermo Gonzalez continues to churn out the hits at a furious rate. This tasty EP on Disco Fruit follows two other missives last month (one EP on Empire Studio, the other on Poetry in Motion) and marks the Hotmood man's sixth release of 2018. He begins with the loose and undulating, Herb Alpert-goes-house warmth of "Let's Ride", before turning a chunky Latino roller into a weighty slab of bass-heavy mid-tempo house on EP standout "Mr Funkyman". Elsewhere, "My Disco Collection" sees him re-cast an obscure disco-funk cut as a rolling disco-house loop jam, while "Clean Cuts" is a subtly beefed up take on a sweet and sultry soul cut from the 1960s.

Review: Nine highly enjoyable slices of contemporary funk and disco here courtesy of Fran Deeper's Mallorca-based Spa In Disco. Some of the artists are well-known, at least in the appropriate circles (C Da Afro, Funk District, Monsieur Van Pratt); some are less so, while there's one genuine first-gen survivor in the form of Spiteri, a legendary Venezuelan player who gave London's 70s disco scene a dose of Latin flava. Don't expect too much in the way of radical reinvention - these grooves are so faithful to the sounds of the 70s that we had to check a few of 'em weren't actually 40 years old! - but the standard throughout is impeccable.
